Should You Learn PHP for Web Development in 2018?

05:24
In this video I answer the question, Should You Learn PHP in 2018? This question comes up often and I wanted to share my thoughts on using PHP. Here’s my thoughts on Learning PHP PHP, it’s a language that coders either love, or don't. There are those who feel it’s the absolute best, and others who look at it, as a relic of years past. PHP is the Server Side language that’s used by the vast majority of websites. It’s used by Everyday blogs, Small Businesses and Fortune 500 Companies. PHP has been around since 1994 ( released in 95 ) and has evolved over the years, making it the language chosen by over 83% of sites. When you talk about a coding stack, php is often part of that stack. A coding stack consists of various languages such as HTML, CSS, JavaScript, PHP & MySQL. Web Servers often use a LAMP Stack which stands for Linux, Apache, MySQL & PHP. PHP makes HTML, Dynamic, and provides server side features that HTML alone, can’t do. Your PHP code is never displayed to the person visiting a website since it’s processed on the server side. This means people can’t just right click and view source. One of the main reasons php is so widely used is because it’s absolutely free. It’s installed on nearly all web servers, making it an easy choice. It’s also one of the most well documented languages and there are more online tutorials for PHP, than any other server side language which makes it easy to learn, and find answers for. So Why do some coders, dislike PHP so much? Some feel it’s not a well designed language, some feel that it has too much legacy code and others feel it isn’t a focused language like some modern languages ( remember, it’s been around longer than most ). Now the Million dollar question, Can you find work with PHP? To answer this question, let’s take a look at who uses PHP. Some of the biggest names online use PHP and this list is just a short list of some of the companies and open source projects that use it in their stack. Since PHP is used by small blogs and large corporate websites, it’s a great language to learn if you want to be a freelancer taking on smaller projects, or if you’re looking to work for a larger company. PHP is also here to stay. The trends show that usage of PHP is going up and that trend isn’t expected to change any time soon. I use PHP as my language of choice. Some might say well, you use PHP because of WordPress. I’m a WordPress Developer and I create Themes for people to use on their sites. But I’ve been using PHP before I started using WordPress. I ended up using WordPress because every client I got, asked for it and since WordPress uses the same stack that I use, HTML, CSS, JavaScript, PHP & MySQL, it was easy for me to transition So Should You Learn PHP in 2018? If you want to easily find freelance work or work for an agency, PHP is an easy choice. Now, if I were to recommend another language to consider, it would probably be Python which is a General Purpose Coding Language that is also, time tested. There’s a large community of developers who’ve made python their main language. Schools teach it because it’s also easy to learn. Node.js is another server side option and if you’re already familiar with JavaScript, then learning Node, is probably going to be a great choice. Just remember, you have to determine what your long term goals are, where do you wanna work or what is your current team using. But for Web Development, PHP is still the way to go.

Is There a Future for Web Developers? 🤔

05:49
Is There a Future for Web Developers? With AI Artificial Intelligence & Machine Learning, will there still be a need for individual web designers & developers or will we be phased out in the next 5 to 10 years? If you're a web developer or looking to get into the web development field either working for a fortune 500 company, boutique web design agency or as a freelance web developer, this is something you might be asking yourself or googling for answers. There have been massive advances with artificial intelligence and machine learning over the years with Chess masters being defeated by AI, Go Players being defeated by AI & Poker players also being defeated by Artificial Intelligence. This has sparked the debate and conversation over whether fields like web design & development, doctors, lawyers and other fields might be at risk due to advances in technology. This also comes at a time when we are getting closer to creating a Quantum Computer and other major advances in current day Super Computers. The singularity is what concerns many, including people like Elon Musk, Bill Gates and many others who feel we might be changing the way the world works. In this video, I share my thoughts on this important topic. #webdevelopment #webdeveloper #webdesign

PHP in 2019 - Is It Worth Learning or Is PHP Dead?

03:26
Is it Worth Learning PHP in 2019 or is it a waste of time? How many Websites actually still use PHP as a server side programming language? That's what I'm going to answer in this video on the State of PHP in 2019. PHP is one of the most popular coding languages used to create dynamic websites. It's used by an estimated 80% of dynamic websites and by major Content Management Systems like WordPress, Drupal and Joomla. Programmer Motivation: https://youtu.be/zX87bKmmbak Python 2019: https://youtu.be/z6OVct_G-Ws Gulp JS: https://youtu.be/tTrPLQ6nOX8 PHP is a fast scripting language, especially with the latest version of PHP 7.3 PHP is constantly evolving and the fact that it's installed on nearly all web servers, makes it a great choice for web developers to work with whether you're a Freelance Web developer like me or if you work for a company. PHP's popularity is still strong, even with competition from other coding languages like Python and JavaScript which with Node JS can be used for server side coding. #php #webdevelopment #webdeveloper

The Talented Coder - Coding Motivational Video

04:45
Welcome to PixemWeb on YouTube. I'm Joel Rivera, the founder of https://www.pixemweb.com/ and this channel. As a Full Time, Freelance Web Developer who works from home, has a family, I've learned a lot over the years and I want to share what I've learned with you. In this video, I talk about The Talented Coder. This is a Coding Motivational Video. The Talented Coder, The person who can sit in front of a computer, and their code just seamlessly appears on the screen and it just works. Learn How to Code a WordPress Theme: https://youtu.be/pEJ2IzYOx5c What is a Full Stack Web Developer: https://youtu.be/UtDpYVf9jKU The coder who has a beautiful mind that can create complex algorithms without batting an eye. I'm here to tell you that talent is overrated, and here's why. You see, there's a lot of talented people out there. People who take their talents for granted. The mindset is often, Why Do Today what can be put off till tomorrow? Isn't it supposed to be the other way around? Why put off till tomorrow, what can be done right now! Tomorrow isn't promised people. Hard Work beats Talent, When Talent doesn't work hard. Learning to code is not easy. Becoming an expert coder is even harder. But I believe that everyone who has the capacity to learn, can learn how to code. You might be thinking that you don't have what it takes. Let me tell you, if you believe you can, then you can. But if you believe you can't. you can't. Point Blank. These are some of my favorite quotes: You Need a Reality Check! Reality Starts from the Inside and makes its way out. Push Yourself Because No One Else is Going to do it for you! What Comes easy won't last, what lasts Won't come easy! It Always Seems Impossible Until it's done! Don't Limit Your Challenges, Challenge Your Limits! One of the greatest pleasures in life, is doing what people say you cannot do! So what is The Plan? Take yourself out of your comfort zone. Great things are never achieved when you're in your comfort zone. If you want to become an expert coder, then realize, it'll take time, effort, a commitment that the average person isn't willing to commit. If you really want it, then dedicate 1 hour a day, make that 3 hours a day or more cause that's what it will take. It won't happen over night, but it will happen. I'm a coder who has been coding for years, I'm now creating videos teaching people how to code. Take a look at my first 100 videos, they all need help. Why do I leave them up? As a reminder of how far I've come. I'm still learning how to create these videos. I know I have a lot to learn. Guess what I'm doing every single day. I'm learning. I'm putting in the time. Why? Cause I'm hungry, I'm motivated. I have the Burning desire inside of me to achieve greatness. The amazing thing is my greatness is only achieved if I reach the masses. When I first started coding, people thought I was crazy. I've lived a blessed life, I transitioned careers from a six figure income and then to making nothing. It took a long time before I started making any money, and I'm still not where I wanna be. Every time I get close to reaching my goals, I push the finish line a little further, Why? Because I don't want to ever be comfortable. When I started creating videos on YouTube, people really thought I was nuts. Focus on one thing is what I was told time and time again. I am focused, on achieving greatness. It took me over a year and a half to get 1,000 subscribers. I don't have the skills of Peter McKinnon or Casey Neistat. But that's ok cause I'm learning from them, just like how you can learn to code from me and others right here, online, on YouTube. Will I ever make it to 10 MILLION Subscribers? Who Knows? I will tell you this, If I don't try, I will never make it. Develop Grit because you will fail, and that's ok failure is part of the process. Here's a question for you, will you become an expert coder? You can if you put in the effort. What Motivates you? What are your long term goals? Do you have a plan? Do you have the Drive? My family motivates me. They motivate me to challenge myself every single day. It's for them and it's for me. If you practice coding every single day, eventually, what was once hard, will become easy!!! Now's the time for you to take your coding skills to the next level. Make it happen. #coding #fullstackdeveloper #webdevelopment

Truth - Becoming a Full Stack Web Developer in One Year?

05:56
In this video I talk to you about the Truth on Becoming a Full Stack Web Developer in One Year. Is it possible to really become a full stack in such a short amount of time or is it non-sense? Original Video: https://youtu.be/UtDpYVf9jKU This video is in response to a comment I received from a previous video I created on this very topic. In that video I mentioned what a full stack web developer is, what coding languages they know and a schedule to follow in order to learn the fundamentals of web design and development on both the front end and back end. A full stack web developer is familiar with html, css, javascript, php and mysql. A full stacker also may know linux server administration and other development tools like Git and Gulp among others. Even If you have no experience with code, you can still learn enough in one years time to start creating websites. That being said, it can take years to really become an expert coder. Like anything worth while, you get out what you put in. If you're focused and determined, you'd be surprised how much you can accomplish. Impostor Syndrome unfortunately is real. Some people have no faith in their capabilities. Confidence can get you through the tough moments where you may not feel as if you can achieve your goal of learning to code. #webdeveloper #webdesign #fullstackdeveloper

How to use WP Fastest Cache for WordPress Optimization

06:19
In this episode I will demonstrate how to configure WP Fastest Cache WordPress Plugin to Speed up your WordPress Powered Website. It is the simplest and fastest WordPress Cache system for your website. This plugin creates static html files from your dynamic WordPress blog which will greatly speed up your page load time. When a page is rendered, php and mysql are used. Therefore, your system needs RAM and CPU. If there's a lot of visitors coming to your website, the system uses lots of RAM and CPU so the page is rendered slowly. This is why you need a cache system which will increase your website performance by not rendering the page again and again. WP Fastest Cache is one of the Best WordPress Plugins to use to optimize your website. Setting up this plugin is really easy. You don't need to modify the .htaccess file. It will be modified automatically. Install, Activate and Configure it and you will see why it's the best WordPress Cache Plugin. Should You Learn JavaScript in 2019

02:17
Should You Learn JavaScript in 2019? That's the question I answer in this short, 2 minute video. JavaScript is one of the most popular coding languages you can learn. It's used on the vast majority of websites online and features some of the best libraries, frameworks and tools like: ReactJS, VueJS, AngularJS, jQuery, NodeJS, GulpJS and many other tools, frameworks and libraries to help you create your next website, app or even a desktop application. With JavaScript, you're not limited to just creating front end websites, you can also use it on the server side with NodeJS, create apps for mobile devices and desktop programs. The average JavaScript Developer can earn between $75,000 to $115,000 per year and there's no shortage of job opportunities for JavaScript Developers. So in 2019, I definitely recommend learning JavaScript. Learn Vanilla JavaScript first and then move onto some of the various libraries, frameworks and automation tools to help you create something truly unique and awesome. #javascript #js #pixemweb

Freelancing - Full Stack Developer vs Front End vs Back End Developer

07:50
If you're looking to be a Freelance Web Developer, then choosing to be a Full Stack Web Developer or a Front End or Back End Developer is something you've probably thought about. In this video I share my thoughts on which you should aspire to become. This video is targeted towards the person who wants to be a Freelancer and not someone who works for an Agency or Design Firm or for a large Company. Top 10 Programming Languages Video: https://youtu.be/6jCBSDQIVUs Coder Motivation Video: https://youtu.be/zX87bKmmbak Gulp 4 Full Tutorial Video: https://youtu.be/tTrPLQ6nOX8 Full Stack Web Developer Video: https://youtu.be/UtDpYVf9jKU WordPress Theme Development Video: https://youtu.be/pEJ2IzYOx5c Freelancing as a Web Developer Video: https://youtu.be/DTMTtjoBZXQ First let's go over some of the roles and what they really are. Front End Developer: This is someone who is well versed on the front end of a website. They know html, CSS, JavaScript and possibly jQuery, React JS, or Vue JS or Angular JS. They focus on designing and developing the way a website will look when a person visits the website. They also typically focus on Responsive web design and development. Back End Developer: This person is someone who focuses on coding with a dynamic coding language like PHP or Python or Ruby Java. They work on server side code which handles how a website functions and responds to http server requests. The code they write is not exposed to the web browser. The code they write is used for dynamically creating the page or post that's delivered to the client side. It's also used for securing a website, sanitizing the code and making sure the http requests are processed properly. Full Stack Web Developer: A full stack web developer is someone who knows how to code for the front end and the back end. They typically also know how to work with a Linux operating system via the command line. A full stack web developer also needs to know how to work in various server environments. Freelance Web Design and Development is a challenging field to work in. As a freelancer, you are typically working on your own. This is why I recommend people become a full stack developer. When you get a client, they're going to want a full website, not just half a website. They typically aren't concerned with the coding language you use. What they want is a website that accomplish a specific set of goals and looks great on all browsers and devices used to visit the website. Focusing on either the front end or back end of a website and specializing in that area can be beneficial since your knowledge might be deeper, but this is typically the route used by those who are working for a design firm, agency or in a company. So my recommendation is to become a full stack developer. Especially if you're working alone as a Freelancer. #fullstackdeveloper #frontend #freelancewebdeveloper

Should You Learn JavaScript for WordPress Development 2018

Is JavaScript the Future of WordPress and Should you start learning JavaScript for WordPress Development? The short answer is yes. JavaScript is a very popular client side coding language which is used on nearly every single website online. But it has evolved to also become a server side coding language with Node.js which puts it in direct competition with PHP. Back in 2015, Matt Mullenweg sent a message to developers "Learn JavaScript Deeply".Since Matt is the founder of WordPress, head of Automattic and helps to guide WordPress into the future, it's important that as web developers, we learn JavaScript. Over at WordPress.com, they're using a new codebase codenamed Calypso which is built with Node.js, ReactJS and is a SPA aka Single Page Application. This is an obvious sign that JavaScript is vital to WordPress Development and also playing a more significant role in how WordPress functions. Gutenberg, which will be available in WordPress 5.0, is driven by React JS which is another signal that JavaScript is a must. As a Full Stack Web Developer who focuses on WordPress, I use JavaScript when developing Themes and Plugins, but also, I use JavaScript to help automate my workflow by using Gulp JS which is a task runner. So it's clear that JavaScript has evolved significantly over the years from a client side coding language to a full featured coding language that can be used on the server side as well. Learn regular JavaScript, then Learn jQuery, React JS, Node JS, Gulp JS and other JavaScript libraries and frameworks.

Working Remotely as a Web Developer - Steady Pay & Freelance Lifestyle

06:08
In this video I share my thoughts about Working Remotely as a Web Developer which can provide you with Steady Pay & the Freelance Lifestyle. One of the benefits of being a freelance web developer is the ability to work from home and not have to deal with commuting to and from work. One of the biggest issues with being a freelance web developer is there's really no stability in the beginning and making money can be sporadic. One of the benefits of working for a company is you get a steady pay check. But this also typically means you have to deal with commuting to and from work and typically are limited to working for a local company which might limit your job opportunities based on where you live. This is where Working Remotely aka Remote Worker can provide you with the freedom to work from home just like a freelancer while at the same time having the benefit of having a steady paycheck. One of the best parts of being a coder is you can work from anywhere as long as you have a laptop, internet connections and of course the skills to get the job done. Learn To Code a WordPress Theme: https://youtu.be/pEJ2IzYOx5c Get DevWP: https://www.pixemweb.com/devwp-wordpress-development-training-theme/ Nowadays, companies are open to hiring remote workers as a way to acquire talent from around the globe and also minimizing the size of the offices they may typically need in order to have room for employees. Working remotely is also great for those who may not be able to find employment locally for various reasons but once they venture to the global market, gaining employment is much easier.

Vanilla Code vs Frameworks & Libraries - Web Development 2019

06:12
Let's talk about Vanilla Code vs Frameworks & Libraries and what it means for Web Development in 2019 and beyond. When you're learning to become a web designer and developer, you will typically learn a few coding & markup languages like HTML, CSS, JavaScript, PHP or Python or Node JS along with a database management system like MySQL. If you learn all the languages mentioned above, you will be considered a full stack web developer. Or you can choose to be a front end designer or back end developer. There are many options for you to choose from in terms of becoming a web developer. Even if you are well versed in the various coding languages I mentioned, creating a website can be very time consuming. That's where code frameworks like Bootstrap, Foundation, Angular JS or Vue JS or Symfony or Laravel come into place. Then you have code libraries like jQuery and React along with Task runners like Gulp, Grunt or Webpack and even transpilers like Babel. These are all extremely beneficial to web designers & developers because they help to streamline your workflow while coding up a website either for yourself or a client. So when you're learning to code, should you try and master each coding language or should you learn just enough and then learn the various frameworks and libraries? This question always comes up and while the frameworks and libraries are extremely useful, I still recommend that you get well versed in Vanilla Code. Vanilla Code is just regular code that you write without the help of a framework or library. Learn How To Code a WordPress Theme with DevWP: https://youtu.be/pEJ2IzYOx5c What is a Full Stack Web Developer? https://youtu.be/UtDpYVf9jKU By developing a deep knowledge on each coding language, you can be prepared in the event of a changing trend in frameworks or libraries used. You can also code your own light weight library and framework which can be very helpful in insuring your website performs well within the browsers and search engines. Remember, page load time is a ranking factor and important for SEO. So even if you're a beginner, just learning to code, learning how to code is an investment in time and effort. Hopefully you enjoy this video where I talk about Vanilla Code vs Frameworks & Libraries and what it means for Web Development in 2019 and beyond. #fullstack #fullstackdeveloper #webdevelopment

Learn How to Code 10X Faster - Freelance Web Developer Tips

09:36
Learning To Code can be one of the most challenging things a person ever tries. In this video I share with you my tips on how to learn to code 10x Faster. The process of learning to code can be confusing, especially if you don't have the right methods for studying code. A lot of people make the mistake of taking a passive approach to learning how to code. Learn To Code a WordPress Theme: https://youtu.be/pEJ2IzYOx5c Get DevWP - WordPress Development Theme: https://www.pixemweb.com/devwp-wordpress-development-training-theme/ Passive learning is like just reading a book or watching a video. Active learning is a much better way to learn since you become an active participant in the learning process. Active learning means you are implementing what you're learning immediately by using the code, studying the code and trying to refactor the way the code works. I advise people to take notes on a notepad or index cards. This will help you to reinforce the learning process and ensure you get a better understanding of how the code actually works. I also recommend that you try to eliminate distractions as much as possible so you can focus on learning how to code without interruptions. One thing I tell people is to never give up. Learning to code is a hard and difficult process that takes time. It won't happen overnight but I believe everyone can learn how to code as long as they take the learning process seriously and focus on following a schedule which ensures they can practice how to code on a daily basis. My goal is to teach people how to code and how to create their own freelance business. If you're interested in learning how to code and to start your own freelance business, then make sure to subscribe to this channel. Hopefully you find this video helpful.

How To Setup WordPress Multisite

22:40
In this video I'm going to demonstrate How To Setup WordPress Multisite. If you want to see How To Uninstall WordPress Multisite, then watch this video: https://youtu.be/mBgibIFF3e0 A WordPress multisite network is similar to your own personal version of WordPress.com. Users of your network can create their own sites on demand, just like end users of WordPress.com can create blogs on demand. If you do not have any need to allow end users to create their own sites on demand, you can create a multisite network in which only you, the administrator, can add new sites. A WordPress multisite network is a collection of sites that all share the same WordPress installation. They can also share plugins and themes. The individual sites in the network are virtual sites in the sense that they do not have their own directories on your server, although they do have separate directories for media uploads within the shared installation, and they do have separate tables in the database. I will also cover the process of configuring your wp-config.php file and your .htaccess file. I'll walk you through the process of how to create a brand-new site and also how to network activate themes and plugins as well as maintaining and updating the various WordPress themes and WordPress plugins on your site network. Your WordPress Website can be used to manage multiple websites with the WordPress Multisite Feature Enabled. How To Use Google Fonts in Photoshop & Illustrator on Windows & Mac

06:17
In this video, I show you How To Use Google Fonts with Photoshop and Illustrator on Windows and Mac. Google Fonts are awesome to use on websites, they’re free to use and the library of fonts available will provide you with more options than you will likely ever need, for free. Now if you’re a graphic designer and want to use Google Fonts in Adobe Photoshop or Illustrator without having to use a Plugin, then the next few easy tips are for you. First thing you need to do is go to google fonts website. Then search for the font that you want to use. Then select the font. From there you will want to download the font to your computer or mac. Then you will have a zip file in your downloads folder. Extract the zip file by either double clicking on a mac or by clicking the zip file once on a PC and then in the top file explorer bar where it says Compressed Folder Tools then Extract all. Either way you will get a new folder. Enter the folder and copy all the ttf files to your clipboard. If you can’t see the file extensions on a PC then do this step. On windows pc’s in the file explorer, click the view icon and then check the box for File name extensions. Now on a Mac, highlight all the ttf files and right click and choose open with Font Book, then in the popup, click the install button. On a windows PC copy the ttf files to your clipboard and in the file explorer go to your C: Drive then Windows Folder and then enter the Fonts folder and paste them there. Once you’ve done this, start Photoshop or illustrator and the fonts should be ready to use. That's how to install and use Google fonts on Windows and Mac so you can use them with Adobe Photoshop and Illustrator. Have fun. #photoshop #illustrator #googlefonts

Will Gutenberg Replace Page Builders like Elementor, Divi & Beaver Builder - WordPress 5.0

07:45
Will Gutenberg Replace Page builders like Elementor, Divi & Beaverbuilder? WordPress 5.0 is right around the corner and we've getting ready for one of the biggest updates ever. This WordPress update will be a game changer in many ways. With the introduction of Gutenberg, many believe this will be the end to Page builders like Elementor, Divi, BeaverBuilder or even large theme frameworks like The Genesis Framework from StudioPress. Learn To Code a WordPress Theme: https://youtu.be/pEJ2IzYOx5c Get your website checked to see if it's compatible with Gutenberg: https://joyofwp.com/gutenberg-first-look-future-wordpress/ The reasoning is that Gutenberg will provides features similar to those that PageBuilders provide, natively. Gutenberg will be baked right into the WordPress Core meaning that every site will automatically include the New Editor which is replacing the TinyMCE Editor we've used for years. While I do believe that some smaller Page Builders will be impacted, The larger, more popular Page Builders like Elementor, Divi & BeaverBuilder will continue to thrive due to their current usage, adoption, community of supporters and developers who are working to ensure that their solution stays relevant. WordPress is continuously evolving and now powers well over 30% of the modern web. Despite the fact that no other solution comes close to WordPress in terms of adoption, The WordPress Core Developers are serious about making sure that WordPress continues to be the solution chosen by new websites and blogs. Elementor, Divi, Beaver Builder and Premium theme developers are here to stay for the foreseeable future and what makes WordPress so awesome, is we have plenty of options to create great websites and blogs.

GDPR Compliance for WordPress Websites & Blogs - General Data Protection Regulation

21:12
GDPR aka General Data Protection Regulation goes into effect on May 25, 2018. Is your WordPress Website and Blog in Compliance? In this video I show you how to set up your Privacy Policies for your website by using built in features of WordPress. Every website needs to comply with the GDPR and if you're found not in-compliance, the fines can be upwards of 20million euros which is significant. I go beyond that by showing you how to make your Contact Forms Compliant and also how to use additional plugins that are GDPR focused. WordPress 4.9.6 has built in support for GDPR Compliance with the help of the Privacy Policy Generator and Export and Erase features. What is GDPR? Here's some info from Wikipedia. https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/General_Data_Protection_Regulation "The General Data Protection Regulation (GDPR) (EU) 2016/679 is a regulation in EU law on data protection and privacy for all individuals within the European Union and the European Economic Area. It also addresses the export of personal data outside the EU and EEA. The GDPR aims primarily to give control to citizens and residents over their personal data and to simplify the regulatory environment for international business by unifying the regulation within the EU." This is an important thing to focus on when it comes to managing your WordPress Website. The above info is from Wikipedia. Here's another source of information to look at. https://gdpr-info.eu/ There are quite a few Plugins that can also help you make sure your website is in compliance with the General Data Protection Regulation aka GDPR: https://wordpress.org/plugins/gdpr-compliance/ https://wordpress.org/plugins/wp-gdpr-compliance/ https://wordpress.org/plugins/gdpr/ https://wordpress.org/plugins/popup-maker/ As a WordPress Designer and Developer, I share information about WordPress updates, themes, plugins and how to code for WordPress. I created this video to be a comprehensive overview of GDPR and the WordPress Community.

How to Manually Backup & Restore WordPress Database Files & Folders Without Plugins

10:12
In this video I show you How to Manually Backup & Restore WordPress Database, Files & Folders Without any WordPress Backup Plugins. WordPress Backup Plugins are great and easy to use but sometimes you want to manually back everything up or just want to have redundant backups to go along with the ones created by your backup plugin of choice. Redundancy is important because backups can fail so by having more than one, you give yourself a layer of security and peace of mind. In this video I show you the process of using SSH to create your Secure SSH Keys and I show you how to use FileZilla which is a free FTP program. I also show you how to use SFTP which is a secure way of transferring your files to and from your web server in an encrypted way. FTP stands for File Transfer Protocol and SFTP means Secure File Transfer Protocol. Having a good backup of your WordPress Website is extremely important. It is helpful when you want to migrate your website to a new server or if your website has been hacked and you need to restore from a clean backup. In the video I use FileZilla which is a free FTP Program and phpmyadmin which you can use to backup your WordPress database. This will give you a full WordPress Backup. Should You Design or Develop Your Website First

08:08
In this video I share my thoughts on Should You Design or Develop Your Website First. If you're new to coding or just want to get another perspective on how to optimize your workflow as a coder, this video will give you some insight on what you should focus on either as a front end designer, back end developer or a full stack web developer. How To Code a Custom WordPress Plugin: https://youtu.be/38aksY79kK0 How To Code a Custom WordPress Theme: https://youtu.be/pEJ2IzYOx5c While everyone's workflow is different, it's always great to hear from others how they go about designing and developing websites. I tend to work on various demo websites first trying to take into consideration the most likely types of websites people or businesses might ask for within the niche i focus on. I create my starter themes and templates along with some custom WordPress plugins that I feel are ideal for the majority of websites. Obviously, as I chat with the client about their specific goals for the website and how they want it to look, I adjust the color scheme, font types, layouts and type of content to display based on their specific needs. Some people like to design first, others might like to handle the functionality first and then there are those like me who already have code snippets, template files and demo sites already coded to help streamline my workflow as a full stack web developer who focuses on WordPress Websites and Blogs. Share your Thoughts below. #fullstackdeveloper #webdesign #webdevelopment

How To Make Money with WordPress - Top 10 Ways!

08:14
Top 10 Ways to Make Money with WordPress. You have a website or your thinking about creating a website or blog. You might be wondering, how can you make money with your website? WordPress Theme Development: https://youtu.be/pEJ2IzYOx5c Hi, I’m Joel Rivera from https:www.pixemweb.com and the creator of DevWP, which is a WordPress Development Training Theme. You have a website or your thinking about creating a website or blog. You might be wondering, how can you make money with your site? In the video above, I share with you, the top 10 ways to make money with a WordPress Powered Website. Here are the various strategies to make money with WordPress. Strategy # 1 - Affiliate Marketing & Amazon Affiliates Affiliate marketing is when you recommend a product or service to your audience using special tracking links, and then get a referral commission for every time someone makes a purchase after clicking your link. Commission Junction, Share a Sale & Amazon Affiliates are often the most used. Strategy # 2 - Google AdSense or Sell Ads Directly Google AdSense is a popular way to start making money from your blog. All you need to do is add a snippet of code from Google to your website and start displaying ads. You will get paid for every time a user clicks on the ad. Another option is to Sell Ads Directly - Directly selling ads on your website can be lucrative, especially if you’re working with local businesses. The benefit of going this route is you can set your own rates for the ads and work directly with the business. You also get to keep all the money from the ads vs having to give a cut to a third party service. Strategy # 3 - Paid Reviews & Sponsored Blog Posts This is pretty basic. A company and you work out a deal where you write a paid review of their product. They pay you for this service. Like I said, pretty basic. Note: Make sure to follow all rules when it comes to disclosures and be transparent with your audience. You’ll want to review products that are relevant to your niche and that your audience would be interested in. Offer Sponsorship Opportunities - Basically you have companies that sponsor your content and website. This can be great because you can write general content without having to do a paid review but your articles are still sponsored and you generally give a shout out to your sponsors. Strategy # 4 - Premium Content Aka Membership Website Your loyal readers may be willing to pay to read more of your work. You can create a members-only area for them to share premium blog posts, downloads, videos, audio content, etc. Strategy # 5 - Freelance as a WordPress Designer / Developer & Flipping Websites Freelancing is a great way to make money online. You can start offering your services to your current audience. Flipping Websites - This is basically buying a domain name that might be sought after by a business, design the website, add some quality content and then offer the site for sale. Strategy # 6 - Drop shipping Drop shipping is another way you can create an eCommerce store on your website without having to handle inventory or ship items yourself. With drop shipping, you create the store, manage the website, and customer service. But a drop shipping service will take your orders and ship them out to your customers. They’re an invisible third party that your customers don’t even know about. Strategy # 7 - Sell Stuff eBooks, WordPress Themes, WordPress Plugins or Merch - eBooks are an obvious choice for creating digital products. They are relatively simple to write and produce. If you’ve been blogging for a while, then you can collect some of your old blog posts and turn them into chapters of a book. Strategy # 8 - WordPress Related Services Hosting, Monthly Maintenance, Support Services, Social Media Management, SEO Services, Content Writing, WordPress Consultancy, How to Use WordPress Service. Strategy # 9 - Directory Listing Website Directory based websites are great for local businesses. Let's say you have a food blog, you can have a directory page where you list out restaurants based on zip code. Strategy # 10 - Accept Donations You can have a donation button linked to your paypal or stripe account and give a call to action asking people to buy you a cup of coffee. This is effective because it's a soft sell and people don't feel pressured. #wordpress #freelance #fullstackdeveloper

There are a lot of Free WordPress Tips out there but one of the most important ones is optimizing your WordPress Website. So in this tutorial, I will show you how. Learn To Code a WordPress Theme with DevWP: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=pEJ2IzYOx5c&list=PL97Qo7C6CNAyQ8spj0Mp9tjI0q4j0ARzi Description About the Plugin from WordPress: https://wordpress.org/plugins/fast-velocity-minify/ "This plugin reduces HTTP requests by merging CSS & Javascript files into groups of files, while attempting to use the least amount of files as possible. It minifies CSS and JS files with PHP Minify (no extra requirements). Minification is done in real time and done on the frontend only during the first uncached request. Once the first request is processed, any other pages that require the same set of CSS and JavaScript will be served that same static cache file. This plugin includes options for developers and advanced users, however the default settings should work just fine for most sites." Here are some of the listed features: Merge JS and CSS files into groups to reduce the number of HTTP requests Google Fonts merging and optimization Handles scripts loaded both in the header & footer separately Keeps the order of the scripts even if you exclude some files from minification Supports localized scripts (https://codex.wordpress.org/Function_Reference/wp_localize_script) Minifies CSS and JS with PHP Minify only, no third party software or libraries needed. Option to use YUI Compressor rather than PHP Minify (you you have “exec” and “java” available on your system). Option to defer JavaScript and CSS files. Should Bloggers Learn How to Code

05:12
Should Bloggers Learn How to Code? Blogging and Coding both require a lot of effort to master. Becoming a Blogger or a Coder can take years. Here are my thoughts on Bloggers Learning to Code. How To Become a Full Stack Web Developer: https://youtu.be/UtDpYVf9jKU WordPress Theme Development with DevWP: https://youtu.be/pEJ2IzYOx5c How To Make Money with WordPress: https://youtu.be/4VeTIyF77cM With platforms like WordPress, Drupal, Joomla, Wix, SquareSpace and others, bloggers have options. You can create a website in less than 30 minutes with most of these tools, and while they all have a different learning curve, they generally make it easy to create a website that can actually get results, without ever having to write a single line of code. Hi, I’m Joel Rivera from PixemWeb.com and the creator of DevWP, which is a WordPress Development Training Theme. In this video, I’ll share with you my thoughts on the pro’s and con’s of learning to code as a blogger. But before we begin, make sure you subscribe to this channel, so you don’t miss out on my upcoming videos. And click the Notification Icon so you’ll actually be notified. First let me state, this is not a comparison video of the different options I mentioned. This video is me thinking out loud on whether or not, bloggers should learn, how to code. Blogging might sound easy but if you’ve been blogging for while, you know there’s a lot that goes into preparing a quality blog post that is worth reading, sharing and hopefully landing the coveted page one ranking on Google. Coding is also extremely difficult. It’s not something you can master overnight. Learning to code is kind of deceiving because the syntax of the most widely used languages are actually not hard to learn. The hard part is combining the languages together and creating solutions that work. Thinking like a master coder takes years. So should bloggers learn to code? The answer is, it depends. The benefits of learning to code are significant. Learning to code empowers you to have greater control over your website. You can design the site exactly how you want it to look and you can add the functionality that you need, all without relying on a developer. But if you did need a developer, I’m right here, I’m just saying. Another benefit of learning to code is you can analyze the code used on your website. Especially if you’re using a platform like WordPress, Drupal or Joomla. You can download the code to your local computer with FTP, you can then use a code editor like Atom or V.S. Code or Sublime text, and see what’s actually taking place under the hood. So it sounds like bloggers should definitely be learning to code right? Well, not so fast. Learning to code is hard work. It takes a considerable amount of time, focus, research, practice and lot’s of energy and perseverance. Most people quit learning to code way to soon. Code can be really intimidating. Between learning about conditionals, loops, switches, variables, arrays, database connections, functions, classes, methods, algorithms and on, and on, and on. It’s not easy. As I mentioned in another video on how to become a full stack web developer in one year, you’re going to have to dedicate several hours per day if you want to learn more than just the fundamentals of a coding language. So if you have the time, the desire, and really want to take greater control of your website, then learning to code kind of makes sense. Otherwise, keep on writing awesome blog posts and turn them into an eBook. Now if you want to learn how to code, check out my video on how to code a custom WordPress Theme with DevWP. In that video I walk you through the process, step by step. Alright, hopefully you enjoyed this video, if you did, give it a thumbs up, make sure to subscribe and click the notification icon, that way, you’ll be notified when I upload a new video. As always, thanks for watching and I’ll see you in the next video, take care. #blogger #blog #blogging

In this video I introduce you to the Top 10 Websites for Free Pictures for Your Blog. Good pictures are important because they liven up your website and blog posts. These websites use either the Creative Commons Zero license or a similar license that allows you to use the images on both personal and commercial projects. Pexels This is one of my favorite websites because it has a large library of high quality pictures. The website is well designed and easy to navigate. FreeStocks Is another good website to try out when you want to find the right picture. They have the site well categorized and tagged so you can find groupings of similar images and they also have a search bar so you can just type and search for pictures. Death to Stock This website provides a different type of service. They email you randomly picked photos on a monthly basis. I’ve been a subscriber for a few years now and they often send out timely photos based on the season or holiday.
