After watching Quinn (Snazzy Labs) video on the Windows Phone in 2018, I really started to become interested in not only Microsoft but Nokia as well. So during one of my “usual” Ebay browsing sessions I found this Microsoft Lumia 950 for $100. The phone was listed as used, however the description wasn’t really clear and I just assumed it would be a decent phone. Turns out though that the phone was brand new, and still shrink wrapped. Now usually I would think that this is just a resealed device, but then it dawned on me that no one would really take the effort of that for a Microsoft phone. Turns out I was right and I ended up with a brand new Microsoft Lumia 950 for $100. Would you guys like to see anything else done with the Microsoft Lumia 950? Microsoft has ditched the Nokia name for its Lumia devices, and has decided to use its own brand on the Windows Phone series. And while that's one of the more noticeable features of the 535, it shouldn't be a reason for buying, or not buying the device. The real question is, can a phone this cheap really be any good? There's no doubting that this phone looks good and feels solid, even if it is a fingerprint magnet. It even has a decent enough camera for a phone this cheap. But its performance is frustrating, a lot of the time. This is partly down to the unresponsive touch screen, and partly down to the regular crashing of third party apps and games. The Nokia Lumia series is a line of smartphones and tablet computers designed and marketed by Nokia. Introduced in November 2011, the line was the result of a long-term partnership between Nokia and Microsoft—as such, all Lumia smartphones run the Windows Phone operating system, aiming to compete against the iPhone and Android-based devices. The Lumia name is derived from the partitive plural form of the word 'lumi', which means 'snow' in the Finnish language. On 3 September 2013, Microsoft announced its intent to acquire Nokia's mobile device business, expected to close in early 2014. As part of the deal, Microsoft will acquire rights to the Lumia and Asha brands from Nokia, but will be unable to use the Nokia brand on future devices following the acquisition. The following month, Nokia extended the Lumia brand into tablets with the unveiling of a Windows RT tablet under the brand. An Android comparable series, the Nokia X family, was unveiled prior to the acquisition at MWC 2014. From 1988 to 2012, Nokia was the largest vendor of mobile phones in the world, which included early smartphones built on its Symbian platform. However, in recent years, its market share declined as a result of the growing use of touchscreen smartphones from other vendors, such as Apple's iPhone line and Android-based products. In 2010, its market share had declined to 28%, and in April 2012, Samsung Electronics (a prominent user of Android) ultimately overtook Nokia as the largest mobile phone vendor in the world. Nokia's CEO Stephen Elop passed on the idea of producing Android devices, believing the company wouldn't be able to suitably differentiate its Android products from that of other vendors. In an employee memo, Elop infamously described the company as being on a "burning platform", blaming the "war of ecosystems" between iOS and Android as part of Nokia's overall struggle, and asserting that the company needed to make major changes to its operation. In February 2011, Stephen Elop and Microsoft's CEO Steve Ballmer jointly announced a major business partnership between Nokia and Microsoft, which would see Nokia adopt Windows Phone as its primary platform on future smartphones, replacing both Symbian and MeeGo. The deal also included the integration of Bing as the search engine on Nokia devices, and the integration of Nokia Maps into Microsoft's own mapping services. Nokia had planned to use the MeeGo platform as part of its future plans prior to the announcement, although the company announced that it would still release one MeeGo device in 2011. Aligning with Microsoft had been considered a possibility by analysts due to Elop's prior employment with the company. The Nokia Lumia 800 Nokia unveiled its first Windows Phone 7-based devices, the mid-range Lumia 710 and high-end Lumia 800, on 26 October 2011 at its Nokia World conference. Motivated by requests from the U.S. carrier AT&T for an LTE-enabled device, Nokia quickly developed the Lumia 900 as a follow-up, first unveiled at the 2012 International CES. The Lumia 900 received heavy promotion by the carrier as a flagship device, but its launch was dampened by a software bug that prevented the device from connecting to certain mobile data networks, forcing AT&T to issue credits to those who purchased the device. Upon its launch in April 2012, the Lumia 900 was listed as a top seller on Amazon.com, but online sales began to tamper off by May. While not revealing further details, a Nokia representative stated that the company was "pleased with the consumer reaction, as well as the support we have received from AT&T", while AT&T's mobility chief Ralph de la Vega stated that the Lumia 900 had "exceeded expectations". In early 2012, Nokia released the Lumia 610, a new entry-level device taking advantage of the lower system requirements introduced by Windows Phone 7's "Tango" update. These new low-end devices were intended to improve Windows Phone adoption in emerging markets such as China. A yellow Nokia Lumia 920 Later in September 2012, Nokia unveiled the Lumia 820 and the Lumia 920, its first two devices to use the second generation of the Windows Phone platform, Windows Phone 8. Both featured NFC, with the Lumia 820 embedding a microSD card slot, and an optional Wireless Charging Shell for Qi wireless charging. The Lumia 920 also notably featured Qi wireless charging, and a "PureView" camera with optical image stabilization. While Nokia received criticism when it was revealed that a demonstration video of its image stabilization technology was in fact, filmed using a professional camera, the Lumia 920 was a commercial success for the company.

Microsoft creates an Apple vs. Samsung wedding fight for its new Windows Phone ad. Microsoft has tried a number of ways to advertise Windows Phone handsets, but the latest pits two rivals against each other. In a new minute long spot that's due to air on US national TV, a wedding reception is interrupted by Apple and Samsung fans. "Would you mind moving your enormous phone," asks one iPhone 5 user, before the guests — a clear 50 / 50 split of iPhone 5 and Samsung Galaxy users —begin to trade insults. One member searches for "one tricky pony" using Siri, while another fires back "aren't you a little young to have an iPhone?" Microsoft has finally waved goodbye to the Nokia brand, with the newly announced entry-level device Lumia 535 becoming the first smartphone to carry the Microsoft branding. Measuring 140.2 x 72.45 x 8.8 mm and weighing 146 grams, the device sports a 5-inch qHD display (960 x 540), a 1.2GHz quad-core Qualcomm Snapdragon 200 processor, 1GB of RAM, 8GB of storage, which can be further expanded up to 128GB via a microSD card slot, 5-megapixel front and rear cameras, and 1,905 mAh removable battery which the company claims allows for GSM talk time of up to 11 hours. “Innovation should be available to everyone, and we are doing this through the very best integrated Microsoft services free and out-of-the-box, a 5 MP wide-angle front-facing camera and a spacious 5 inch, qHD screen – all at an affordable price”, said Microsoft's corporate vice president for phones Jo Harlow. On the software side, the Lumia 535 brings along five "free integrated Microsoft experiences", including built-in Skype integration, 15GB of free OneDrive cloud storage, the pre-installed Microsoft Office suite, the Cortana digital assistant, and Microsoft Outlook. Microsoft says the Lumia 535 will launch later this month in Russia, Ukraine, China, Indonesia, and the Philippines, followed by Australia, Vietnam, Thailand, and some African countries in December, and Latin America in January next year. Although the Redmond-based company has promised the device will launch in the UK, it hasn't specified exactly when. There are, however, no plans for a US launch. The Lumia 535 will sell for roughly $135, although the price will vary from country to country. http://www.techspot.com

HTC Windows Phone 8S Hands On We spent a bunch of time recently with HTC's brand new Windows Phone 8 devices, appropriately named the HTC Windows Phone 8S and the Windows Phone 8X. Both devices are incredibly beautiful and amazing. Not only has HTC clearly spent a ton of time designing the phones, but it also paid attention to color. The Windows Phone 8S takes its design cue from the Windows Phone 8 live tiles and feels absolutely stunning in person, even if it is the "lower end" of the two models. http://tchno.be/T4vZOK For more tech goodness, check us out at: http://www.technobuffalo.com/ Follow Us on Twitter: http://www.twitter.com/technobuffalo Like Us on Facebook: http://www.facebook.com/technobuffalo Check Us Out on Google+: http://tchno.be/qxgw8y Inside My Mind: http://www.youtube.com/insidejonsmind

Microsoft has officially revealed the Lumia 535, the first smartphone not to use Nokia branding after the company's Devices division was bought out in April this year. As predicted by early leaks, the budget handset might not have a Nokia logo, but it certainly carries Nokia DNA; it's bright, colourful and runs Windows Phone 8.1, but won't cost a fortune. Designed primarily for emerging markets, with China, Hong Kong and Bangladesh first on the list to recieve it, the Lumia 535 isn't yet confirmd for launch in the UK, but as Microsoft's first phone to go it alone without the Nokia brand it's worth closer inspection; it will give us an idea what to expect from more powerful devices when Microsoft gets round to revealing them. The most immediate changes are Microsoft logos in place of the Nokia one on the front and back of the handset, but it appears Microsoft has ditched all of Nokia's dedicated Windows Phone apps too. Inside, the Lumia 535 is decidedly basic; powered by a quad-core Qualcomm Snapdragon 200 sytem-on-chip (SoC) running at 1.2gHz, paired with 1GB of RAM and 8GB of storage, it won't be setting any benchmark tables alight. It does at least have a microSD card slot, for adding up to 128GB of extra space, and the 1,905mAh battery should be 23 days of standby time, 11 hours of talktime or six and a half hours of video playback. That's all backed by a 5in, 960 by 540 resolution display, with 5-megapixel cameras on the front and back of the handset. The LED flash on the back should help with low light photography, but the low video resolution of 848 by 480 will limit the phone's usefulness when it comes to shooting film clips. As you would expect for a Lumia device, the Lumia 535 will be available in a multitude of bright colours, including green, orange, white, dark grey, black and cyan. The handset will be launching in single and dual-SIM variants with a price around $139. Welcome to nũTECH ! Microsoft is making plenty of big changes with its Windows 8 operating system, and that has now also extended to a new logo. As explained by Microsoft's Sam Moreau in a post on the official Windows blog, the logo was created with the help of the design agency Pentagram, which posed a simple question when it began on the project: "your name is Windows. Why are you a flag?" That discussion eventually led to the four-paned window you see above, which not only looks more like a window than the previous logos, but clearly echoes the company's new Metro design language. Microsoft also notes that the logo is "authentically digital," and says it will welcome you with a slight tilt and change color based on your desktop. - Engadget (http://www.engadget.com/2012/02/17/microsoft-reveals-windows-8s-new-logo-it-s-a-window-not-a-fl/) Clearly the LG Fantasy (make that the Miracle) isn't camera shy. Not long after a quick debut with Mr. Blurrycam, the Windows Phone handset has landed a short, poorly lit cameo in someone else's amateur film. Which is to say, the video doesn't reveal anything exciting. Aside from a few swipes and taps around the OS, we also get a quick peek at the device's rear, which is rocking an unmistakable "Not For Sale" sticker, and appears to have a matte finish. That purported 4-inch screen is allegedly of IPS quality, and is said to be paired with a 1GHz CPU, 8GB of internal storage and an NFC chip. - Engadget (http://www.engadget.com/2012/02/17/lg-fantasy-miracle-windows-phone-appears-in-video/) Subscribe to PlayInfinite at: http://www.youtube.com/subscription_center?add_user=playinfinite Follow PlayInfinite @ajune24 on Twitter: https://twitter.com/Ajune24 Check us out on Google+: https://plus.google.com/102001775659274627704 Also be sure to check out our channel: http://www.youtube.com/playinfinite NeXtPlay Gaming Video Series Now Live!: http://youtu.be/6RY0T_MYzR0 If you haven't already, check out our iPod Touch 4th Generation Boot-up/Tour Video: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=D6AodS-QTNE Also check out the, iPod Touch 4th Generation Unboxing and Hardware Tour Video: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=Aw-alS1N6JI Also check out the, Macbook Pro 13 in. With a 5-inch touch screen and 10 megapixel camera, and special image enhancing software, this phone should find support from social media users. If your brand new Windows 8 Phone is exhibiting odd behavior such as rebooting itself for no apparent reason, Microsoft announced on Tuesday that it is working on a fix for the problem. Sorry about that Microsoft didn't say how many Windows 8 Phones were affected but the bug was deemed serious enough for the company to issue a statement on the software glitch. Microsoft said: "We're continuing to investigate some reports of phones rebooting and have identified a cause with our partners. We are working to get an over-the-air update out in December." Bad for Nokia? Although Microsoft didn't specifically state what brands or models of Windows 8 Phones were affected by the bug, Nokia's newest Lumia smartphones were probably involved, and if so, it only adds to the Finnish phone manufacturer's problems of trying to increase its market share in an arena that is dominated by strong competitors such as Apple and Samsung.

HTC's new Windows Phone 8X is the result of a direct collaboration with Microsoft. Just as we know signature Windows PCs in the market, both companies are marketing this device as a Signature Windows Phone, even if Microsoft and Nokia led you to believe the same from the Lumia brand. So, how good or bad is it to spend a couple of weeks with a Signature Windows Phone? Is it really worth it to spend an extra $100 on this device when you could get other Windows Phones at more competitive price-points and features? It's really a tough question to answer, but that's why we decided to spend episode 11 with the 8X. We hope this video helps you decide if this phone is worth your money or not. --- What is After The Buzz? --- Most new-device launches go the same way: usually the press gets review units before they're widely available, and we get to use them for a few days -or a week if we're lucky- as we work on our review. Then press day arrives. The embargo on media coverage lifts, and everyone posts their reviews and videos at the same time. It's a huge frenzy, commenters go nuts, and it's a giant explosion of frantic opinion-sharing activity. For about ... a day. And then it all goes away. Sure, there's follow-up coverage as people find bugs and hidden features, but after that initial blast, not many people revisit the device to see how it feels a few weeks or months later, because everyone's already focused on the next big deal coming down the pipe. So let's do something about that. Let's see how we feel about devices when they're not shiny and new anymore. Microsoft buys Nokia phones: Trojan Horse finally ruins Finnish brand. Microsoft will pay US$7 billion to buy the mobile-phone business from struggling Finnish company Nokia. That's more than the $8.5 billion Microsoft paid for the fake phone-business Skype, which it bought on Ebay. The acquisition is the result of a three-year Trojan Horse strategy that began in September 2010. That's when Nokia hired former Microsoft executive Stephen Elop to be its CEO. So it was no surprise when Elop a few months later announced Nokia was ditching its Symbian operating system in favor of Windows Mobile. Over the next three years, Nokia watched its stock tank from about $10 per share when Elop took over to about $3.90 per share today. While Elop was busy pushing Windows phones nobody wanted, companies like Samsung soared on the back of Android. Now Microsoft is buying Nokia on the cheap and Elop is returning to Microsoft. Just as its chief executive Steve Ballmer gets ready to retire. No prizes for guessing who will get Ballmer's job. Suspicions have surrounded Elop ever since he left Redmond-based Microsoft to join Nokia nearly three years ago. By February 2011, Elop had issued his infamous 1,300 "burning platform" memo to employees outlining his plans to scrap Nokia's operating system. He argued that continuing to support Symbian was like standing on a burning oil platform and radical change was needed. But instead of finding safety and prosperity in a platform such as Android, Nokia instead adopted another "burning platform" in Windows. Little wonder many long-term Nokia employees see Elop as a mole. -------------------------------------------------------- TomoNews is your daily source for top animated news.
