This also highlights the difference between clothes that you can wear and try and feel with your hands, and clothes on display, which as artworks certainly cannot be touched and therefore remain a bit cold and distant from the visitor." 10. It depends on people's age, means, gender, and everyone approaches second-hand in a different way. So at any time there is someone who is keen about second hand and vintage and this is just great." 16. Pan right of military style vintage jackets 17. Wide of Vintage Fashion exhibition STORYLINE An exhibition dedicated to vintage fashion has opened at the Textile Museum in the Tuscan city of Prato, an important textile manufacturing centre in Italy. The exhibition, entitled "Vintage Fashion. The irresistible charm of the past", was inaugurated on Friday and celebrates vintage garments and their influence in modern fashion. The exhibition retraces the history of vintage fashion, from its start in the Middle Ages to their contemporary success. Four different sections, with over 120 items on display, which include clothes, accessories and fabrics, explain how second hand has evolved from the only way for the lower classes to have access to clothing, to the modern times when vintage and second-hand clothing have become trends that influence the haute couture. "Haute couture has absorbed these trends from the streets, after receiving these popular messages and incorporating them. In fact the collections of major designers such as Dior and Yves Saint Laurent are very sensitive to street fashion and they bring these trends into haute couture. This is how second-hand clothing enters into a higher, more cultural, dimension," explained Daniela Degl'Innocenti, curator of the exhibition. One section of the exhibition explores how, thanks also to vintage garments being worn by celebrities, the trend has become so popular that today designers try to replicate old textiles and the effects generated by the natural decay of materials. The exhibition also includes a temporary store selling selected items from the "A.N.G.E.L.O. Archive", which has almost 100,000 vintage pieces and whose owner Angelo Caroli runs one of the largest vintage shops in Europe.
