Gathered under one name. We are a tide that's rising, And we cannot be contained. Gathered under one name. O for a thousand tongues to sing, The glories of our Lord, God Almighty. O to sing the Saviour's praise, The triumph of His grace, You are worthy, You are worthy God. We have found our anthem, At the cross where sin was slain. Gathered under one name. Where every chain is broken, Every sorrow swept away. Gathered under one name. O for a thousand tongues to sing, The glories of our Lord, God Almighty. O to sing the Saviour's praise, The triumph of His grace, You are worthy, You are worthy God. With all heaven sing, And all earth below. One holy King, One highest throne. With all heaven sing, And all earth below. One holy King, One highest throne. O for a thousand tongues to sing, The glories of our Lord, God Almighty. O to sing the Saviour's praise, The triumph of His grace, You are worthy, You are so worthy God. O for a thousand tongues to sing, The glories of our Lord, God Almighty. O to sing the Saviour's praise, The triumph of His grace, You are worthy, You are worthy God.

James Shirley "Death the Leveller - "The Glories of our Blood and State" Poem animation

01:19
Heres a virtual movie of James Shirley reading his very beautiful and profoundly truthfull poem "Death the leveller". James Shirley (or Sherley) (September, 1596 October, 1666), was an English dramatist. He belonged to the great period of English dramatic literature, but, in Lamb's words, he "claims a place among the worthies of this period, not so much for any transcendent genius in himself, as that he was the last of a great race, all of whom spoke nearly the same language and had a set of moral feelings and notions in common." His career of play writing extended from 1625 to the suppression of stage plays by Parliament in 1642. Shirley was born in London. He was educated at Merchant Taylors' School, London, St John's College, Oxford, and St Catharine's College, Cambridge, where he took his B.A. degree in or before 1618. James Shirley's first poem, Echo, or the Unfortunate Lovers (of which no copy is known, but which is probably the same as Narcissus of 1646), was published in 1618. After earning his M.A., he was, Wood says, "a minister of God's word in or near St Albans." Apparently in consequence of his conversion to the Roman Catholic faith, he left his living, and was master of St Albans School from 162325. His first play, Love Tricks, seems to have been written while he was teaching at St Albans. He removed in 1625 to London, where he lived in Gray's Inn, and for eighteen years from that time he was a prolific writer for the stage, producing more than thirty regular plays, tragedies, comedies, and tragicomedies, and showing no sign of exhaustion when a stop was put to his occupation by the Puritan edict of 1642. Most of his plays were performed by Queen Henrietta's Men, the playing company for which Shirley served as house dramatist, much as Shakespeare, Fletcher, and Massinger had done for the King's Men. On the outbreak of the English Civil War he seems to have served with the Earl of Newcastle, but when the King's fortunes began to decline he returned to London. He owed something to the kindness of Thomas Stanley, but supported himself chiefly by teaching, publishing some educational works under the Commonwealth. , he did not again attempt to write for the stage. Wood says that he and his second wife died of fright and exposure after the Great Fire of London, and were buried at St Giles in the Fields on 29 October 1666. Shirley was born to great dramatic wealth, and he handled it freely. He constructed his own plots out of the abundance of materials that had been accumulated during thirty years of unexampled dramatic activity. He did not strain after novelty of situation or character, but worked with confident ease and buoyant copiousness on the familiar lines, contriving situations and exhibiting characters after types whose effectiveness on the stage had been proved by ample experience. He spoke the same language with the great dramatists, it is true, but this grand style is sometimes employed for the artificial elevation of commonplace thought. "Clear as day" becomes in this manner "day is not more conspicuous than this cunning"; while the proverb "Still waters run deep" is ennobled into — "The shallow rivers glide away with noise — The deep are silent." The violence and exaggeration of many of his contemporaries left him untouched. His scenes are ingeniously conceived, his characters boldly and clearly drawn; and he never falls beneath a high level of stage effect. Kind Regards Jim Clark All rights are reserved on this video sound recording copyright Jim Clark 2010 Death the Leveller.... The glories of our blood and state Are shadows, not substantial things; There is no armour against Fate; Death lays his icy hand on kings: Sceptre and Crown Must tumble down, And in the dust be equal made With the poor crookèd scythe and spade. Some men with swords may reap the field, And plant fresh laurels where they kill: But their strong nerves at last must yield; They tame but one another still: Early or late They stoop to fate, And must give up their murmuring breath When they, pale captives, creep to death. The garlands wither on your brow, Then boast no more your mighty deeds! Upon Death's purple altar now See where the victor-victim bleeds. Your heads must come To the cold tomb: Only the actions of the just Smell sweet and blossom in their dust

Silk Road: Episode 01: Part 1: Glories of Ancient Chang An

09:15
Silk Road: NHK Series, Episode 01: Prt 1: Glories of Ancient Chang An. The Silk Road: The Rise And Fall Of Civilizations is an NHK Tokushu documentary series that first aired in April 7, 1980, broadcast over a 10-year period. It took 17 years in production to complete what many consider a landmark in Japan's broadcasting television history. A coproduction of China's CCTV and Japan's NHK, this elaborate historical series has been made at a cost of over $50 million. The soundtrack of the series was arranged by Kitaro, the Japanese recording artist, composer, and the winner of Grammy Award and Golden Globe Award. The series of soundtracks sold millions and the success created from the program brought Kitaro international attention. Wikipedia: The Silk Road, or Silk Route, is a series of trade and cultural transmission routes that were central to cultural interaction through regions of the Asian continent connecting the West and East by linking traders, merchants, pilgrims, monks, soldiers, nomads and urban dwellers from China to the Mediterranean Sea during various periods of time. Extending 4,000 miles (6,437 kilometres), the Silk Road gets its name from the lucrative trade of Chinese silk which was carried out along its length, and began during the Han Dynasty (206 BC -- 220 AD). The Central Asian sections of the trade routes were expanded around 114 BC by the Han dynasty, largely through the missions and explorations of Zhang Qian. They took great interest in the safety of their products being traded and extended the Great Wall to ensure the protection of the trade route. Trade on the Silk Road was a significant factor in the development of the civilizations of China, the Indian subcontinent, Persia, Europe and Arabia. It opened long-distance, political and economic interactions between the civilizations. Though silk was certainly the major trade item from China, many other goods were traded, and various technologies, religions and philosophies, as well as the bubonic plague (the "Black Death"), also traveled along the Silk Routes. In addition to economic trade, the Silk Road served as a ways of cultural trade between the networking civilizations. The main traders during Antiquity were the Persian traders, the Romans, the Indians and Bactrian traders had involvement, then from the 5th to the 8th century the Sogdian traders, during the coming of age of Islam Arab traders became prominent.

Glory

00:56
Glories are always directly opposite the sun, centered at the antisolar point and therefore below the horizon except at sunrise and sunset. Look for them whenever mist or cloud is beneath you and the sun breaks through to shine on it. Glories can be seen on mountains and hillsides, from aircraft and in sea fog and even indoors. They are formed when light is scattered backwards by individual water droplets. They have a bright centre but not nearly as bright as the corona's aureole. Their rings are delicately coloured like those of the corona's, blue on the inside changing through greens to red and purple outside. The ring intensities fall off much more slowly than those of the corona and sometimes three or even four rings are visible. Shadows converge on the antisolar point and so glories are nearly always accompanied by your shadow or that of the aircraft you are in. When the shadow is grotesquely distorted by perspective it is called a "Brocken spectre". There are other glows at the antisolar point, the heiligenschein and the opposition effect but these do not have the glory's shimmering rings. (Atmospheric Optics)

The Brewing Conflict along the Red Sea

07:43
See more Diplomatic Dispatch videos: https://www.youtube.com/playlist?list=PL1uUSrjSnB01cffzLv7A9tLLKcACZMS_c While international observers are rightfully looking at serious questions in the Middle East like the future of Syria and Iran's interests in taking over that country, there is a crisis brewing to Israel's south that has not gotten sufficient attention. I'm speaking about the Red Sea where at least a half a dozen countries are scrambling for influence, seeking bases throughout the area, and positioning themselves for perhaps even a future conflict. Sometimes we forget if we look back 50 years that the spark which really ignited the Six-Day War came also from Israel's south, when Egypt imposed a naval blockade at the Straits of Tiran, closing off Israeli shipping through the Red Sea to the Indian Ocean. The Red Sea still has the potential of generating conflict in the future. It requires that we be very aware of what is going on there. The first development that is causing a vast increase in tensions throughout this area is the struggle over the sources of the Nile River. For most of recent history, Egypt was the dominant actor over the Nile and, through various treaties negotiated by the British, the Egyptians also dominated the tributaries of the Nile. But now several things have happened. First, the countries along the White Nile, which goes deep into Africa up to Lake Victoria, in the past were underdeveloped and their water needs were very limited. Now they are insisting on a greater share of water, which will affect the ultimate flow of water to the Nile River and to Egypt. But far more serious is what's going on with the other tributary of the Nile known as the Blue Nile. It flows through Ethiopia. There, Ethiopia is planning what is called the “Grand Ethiopia Renaissance Dam, and by damming the Blue Nile, despite all the guarantees that Ethiopia can offer, Egypt is very concerned that its principal source of water for the Nile River may be denied. While the struggle over the sources of the Nile is transpiring, Iran is seeking positions of strength along the entire Red Sea, from the Suez Canal in the north down to Bab-el-Mandeb, the outlet of the Red Sea into the Indian Ocean. In the critical Bab-el-Mandeb straights, the naval choke point at the bottom of the Red Sea, Iran has been using the Houthi militias, which are its proxies in the Yemen war. And it may get to a point where the Iranians will seek to block the flow of naval traffic through this sensitive point. While all this has been going on, Turkey has imposed itself as a new factor in the Red Sea and in the Horn of Africa. The Turks have been active in Somalia, where they've built a north-south highway and a major military base. More recently, the Turks have leased Suakin Island from Sudan and they intend to build a naval base right in the Red Sea. This was, of course, once an Ottoman fort which allowed Ottoman navies to dominate the Red Sea a long time ago. But, nonetheless, perhaps Turkey is seeking to recover its glories from its Ottoman past. Of all the nations that are positioning themselves in the Horn of Africa, like Iran, the U.S., Turkey, France, the United Arab Emirates, and Russia, careful attention should be given to the presence of China in Djibouti where China has constructed one of its first naval bases at the gateway to the Middle East. Given the interests of all the actors appearing now in the Red Sea, the whole region has become far more combustible than it was in the past. With all the focus on Syria and Iraq in recent years, it may be necessary to give greater attention to the theater of the Red Sea which in the next decade could become a serious source of international conflict. * * * Ambassador Dore Gold has served as President of the Jerusalem Center for Public Affairs since 2000. Glories of Mud

51:52
Lecture by David Manning given at the Geological Society on 21 January 2015 as part of the London Lecture series. 2015 is the Year of Mud, an opportunity for us to celebrate that most common of materials. Geologists love mud – it represents both an end and a beginning. An end, because it comes at the end of the cycle of erosion and transport, the consequences of processes that take place on land. A beginning, because it changes during sediment burial and diagenesis, and as it does so it generates materials that we value, and have valued throughout the history of the human race. This talk will explore the benefits of mud, past and present, to our well-being and prosperity.

Silk Road: Episode 01: Part 5: Glories of Ancient Chang An

09:17
Silk Road: NHK Series, Episode 01: Part 5: Glories of Ancient Chang An.
