Saltwater Flats Fishing Tips - Using jigs in shallow water
Saltwater flats fishing trips. How to use jigs in shallow water. Capt. Chris Myers of Central Florida Sight Fishing Charters demonstrates how to use a jighead with a soft plastic tail effectively on shallow grass flats. Without proper technique, these types of lures can quickly become fouled with grass and difficult to use. Because they have an exposed hook, however, they have an excellent hookup ratio. This lure is also very effective in windy conditions and can be cast long distances. In this saltwater flats fishing tips video, Capt. Chris is using a 7'4" Shimano Terramar rod and a Daiwa Ballistic 2500 spooled with 10 lb braid. https://www.flatsfishingtrips.com Saltwater fishing charters near Orlando & Disney

GT Popping Lures & Plugging Rods!
In this video i highlight the differences of 8ft & 10ft rods for plugging. Since i'm fishing in shallow water my choice of lures are surface poppers so i won't snag the bottom. I chose 3 of my favorite lures to use. Fishing Rods Used- Penn 8ft Battalion BATSF1220S80 Line: 12-20lbs monofilament/17-30lbs braid. Lure Weight: 3/4-3 ounces. Daiwa 10ft Coastal SP Surf CLSP 1002MFS (Medium) Line: 10-20lbs monofilament. Lure Weight: 1-4 ounces. Fishing Reel Used- Shimano Spheros SW6000 Line:300yds 30lb blue Jerry Brown Braid Lures Used- Shimano Orca: Floating , Clear Silver, 145mm(5.7"), 47g/1.6oz Williamson Surface Pro 130:130mm(51/8"), 46g/1-5/8oz Live Target Mullet: 5-1/4in, 1-1/4oz If i used the same brand of rods in different lengths i'm sure my results would still be the same. I found the shorter Battalion to be stiffer but has better hoisting power on a larger fish then the 10ft Coastal & i found i can be more accurate in hitting my target areas when casting. The 10' Coastal gives me better casting distance but can't give a more defined "jerk/skip/jump" reaction to my surface popper like the 8' Battalion can. In short you need to figure out what technique you want to employ. Your choice in equipment must reflect your style of fishing. I like distance & i've always done well with "tail walking" my surface lures so i tend to use longer rods with a straight retrieve with tip high to create chugging with a wake line. If i'm plugging in areas of reef structures that i want to specifically target i'll use the stiffer shorter rod so i can accurately hit those areas & entice the fish with more forceful lure movements that a stiffer tip can employ. How I Modified My Floating Slide!
Fish For Bottom & Surface Fish With 1 Cast! This is my modified version of my original floating slide. This Gen#2 variant is meant for choppy surface conditions. Because of the increased buoyancy over Gen#1 you can hang more weight off this larger float. This'll create a more stable presentation for the baited line as well. The bait will also maintain a even posture and won't flip over the main line on choppy surface conditions because of the increased egg lead size used, even if the leader line is short due to shallower depths. The biggest advantage to this style i'm creating is i can slide a weighted slide down first, then deploy the floating slide afterwards. Two baits. One on the bottom, the other sub-surface. The floats were meant for shallow water use (2-8ft). Also being on high ground (ie a pier or sand bank) would help. The usage of the floating slide is determined on how high the rod is and if the water is shallow. For me this means a great way of fishing for Bonefish "O'io". Recently our area has undergone a huge storm so there's brown-water warnings posted. Also the North Shore has huge wave activity as well. Can't go out at night because of the full moon (and it's cold). When the conditions improve i'll be going out to highlight the slides. Thanks for watching my channel Scuba Chris. TOP 5 STRIPER LURES for Fresh Water Dam Fishing | 2018
In this video, we show you our Top 5 Favorite striper lures that we use specifically to target Stripers at dams. Links listed below. Top 5 Striper Lure Link: These lures cover all the seasons: Zoom Fluke with jig head: Versatile, you can work it off the bottom where the stripers usually hang out as they hide from the current. You can also as a casting bobber to it and cover the upper water column. Size of the jig head will depend on how far and how fast you want the setup to cast and sink. Zoom Flukes: https://amzn.to/2NirwH0 Jig Heads: https://amzn.to/2yYpyIx ----------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------- Spooks style Top water Plugs are super effective when stripers are boiling and busting on shad. These are the ones we usually go with. To get more distance, you can "load" them up with BB's. Yo-zuri hydro Pencil: https://amzn.to/2IH3FNE Cordell Pencil Poppers: https://amzn.to/2KkTWCl ----------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------- Vibration Baits - Not many people use these but they are very effective when other lure are not working. Most effective right before sunrise or right after sunset. These have a weight transfer system(except the Bomber) that allows you to cast very far with them. Shore Casting Set-Up & Hook-Up Using Shrimp!
How To Shore Cast Using Shrimp! This tutorial is for the beginning angler on how to set-up your equipment to bait cast from shore. Today i'll be using frozen shrimp but will collect live bait (ie crab & glass shrimp) as back up. My main bait casting rig is a custom 13'3" IRW rod with a Shimano Ultegra 5500 CI4. My second rig is a Okuma 10'9" T-40X with a Shimano C3000 Stradic. I'll be casting using the IRW but latter on i'll also quickly rig the Okuma as well, both with frozen shrimp. This tutorial will visually show how i rig my bait casting rig, better then pointing at a drawing. If you want to just view how it caught a Omilu (Bluefin Trevally) go to time frame 13:48 to see the action. This method works with all live/dead baits from shrimp, fish, squid to crab for most species under 50lb (for bigger fish i'd add a rub line). In murky water i use cork to suspend the bait off the bottom for predators who visualize their prey. You don't have to use the same equipment that i employ but the technique i use does work. Use it as a template & vary it for your style, location & species you're targeting. Rapala Rattlin' Rapala - Lipless Crankbait
Fish Soup Unbiased Tackle Review - Rapala Rattlin' Rapala 07 __________________________________ To Buy: http://www.rapala.com/rapala/lures/all-other-lures/rattlin-rapalaandreg/Rattlin+Rapala.html?q=rattlin&start=2&id=1 __________________________________ Category - Lipless Crankbaits Profile - Shad Body - Plastic Action - Vibrating, Wobbling Action Sinking Internal Rattles The Rapala Rattlin' Rapala RNR07 features the deep-belly profile of a shad bait in a thick, durable plastic body. It combines a vibrating, wobbling action with numerous internal rattles to alert fish at a distance. The sound and vibration generated is slightly more subdued than most rattlebaits, creating a subtler version of this popular lure style without sacrificing classic rattlebait performance characteristics. PRIMARY SPECIES The Rapala Rattlin' Rapala RNR07 is a dual-purpose casting/vertical jigging lure that works well in many applications. Like most sinking rattlebaits, the "Rattlin' Rap" is primarily used for bass casting applications. It is a heavy lure that can be cast long distances, then retrieved quickly near the surface or above cover, holding your rod tip high, to rapidly cover water and trigger strikes. Because it is a sinking lure, pumps and pauses imparted to the lure cause it to alternately flutter and rise. It also is an outstanding vertical jigging lure for fishing in deep water, near bottom or for suspended fish. Bass, Stripers, Wipers Casting 10-20 lb. mono/14-30 lb. braid M to H Spinning or Casting 10-20 lb. mono or 14-30 lb. superline balances well with Medium to Heavy Action Spinning or Casting Gear. SECONDARY SPECIES In the northern states, anglers cast the Rapala Rattlin' Rap for both largemouth and smallmouth bass, as well as other species like northern pike, white bass and walleyes. It also makes a great vertical jigging lure for deep-water walleyes and smallmouths, even through the ice. Northern Pike, White Bass Casting 10-17 lb. mono/14-30 lb. braid M to H Spinning or Casting Walleye, Smallmouths Vertical Jigging 10-12 lb. mono/14-20 lb. braid M Spinning to Casting RETRIEVE/VERTICAL JIGGING OPTIONS A variety of retrieve or vertical jigging options work well with this versatile lure. A Steady Retrieve results in a Moderately Loud, Vibrating Swim near the surface "Pump-and-Pause Retrieves allow the lure to flutter into pockets or alongside cover. Vertical Jigging excels for deep-water or suspended predators. The Rapala Rattlin' Rapala RNR07 is 2 3/4 inches in length, weighs 1/2 oz., and has two #4 treble hooks. It comes in a variety of reflective, baitfish, forage and holographic patterns. Length - 2 3/4 in. Weight - 1/2 oz. Hooks - 2 #4 VMC Black Nickel Trebles Depth - Variable Colors/Patterns - A variety of reflective baitfish and natural forage patterns. Shore Casting A Mid Water Float Rig!
Floating Mid Water Rigged Bait! Depending on the areas you fish & water conditions it's sometimes better to keep your bait off the bottom. If there's bottom obstructions or low visibility it may hide your baited rigged from being detected. It's always good to be prepared for any conditions you fish in. So i'll demonstrate how to better present your bait to increase your chances of hooking-up. I've been practicing this ideology using fish, squid, shrimp & crab for years. Live bait always works the best. I've hooked into Trevally, Ladyfish, Threadfin, Sharks, Rays & Bonefish using this method of suspending my baits. This really works well in a boat drifting over miles of reef & sand bars. Use your favorite bait & hook. Favorite Blue Bird
Not very long ago micro-jigging tackles, of course, if we talk about those tackles which allow realizing the potential of this style, were affordable to quite a few. It is a paradox – budget in all respects fishing style had only one obstacle – the price of the rod. High-quality models with monolith pasted-in tips were presented only by the elite Japanese firms. But now this obstacle was eliminated by the Blue Bird series. These rods though of low price are definitely not a compromise. This is a truly high-quality, very sensitive tackle which allows casting small baits for a long distance. It’s equipped with a comfortable separated handle, L-Ti Guides and tiny throughput rings on the top which decrease the inertia and increase sensitivity. Additionally, the top painted white which together with black winding of the rings can be easily seen with any background. Put on a light reel and you have a perfect instrument which isn’t worse by many parameters that his brand analogs.

GT Fishing Video, How to catch Big Fish!! Small Boats!!
http://www.reefari.com Awesome GT fishing video with some great action, Big fish small boats shows what is possible if you pick the weather and have the right fishing gear. This was a Big Giant Trevally also known as GT for short caught around the islands off Mackay on a big Rover 230 Stickbait. We worked quite a few spots, rocks, points and reefs before hooking this Monster GT, He went 1.20 metres and a solid 25 Kg plus. These GT's are tough and what a workout on 80lb braid, even towed the boat a considerable distance from where we hooked up. The Reel is a new Brawn Tuff tackle 8000GT combo and comes highly recommended, We've caught some monster GT's on this setup and has performed faultlessly and a 22 Kg Spanish Mackerel, Big fish and show's what's possible. We also running Crazy tails twisted leaders 150lb which are proving excellant and a failsafe connection with a double and splitring to your poppers or stickbait. I'll always run this combo now for GT's and is well worth investing in top quality heavy duty leaders for GT'ss and helps put the advantage in your court. It's not the size of your boat stopping you catch big fish. Graham took us for a run in his 4.85m Streaker fibreglass boat with 60 Hp Yamaha, an excellant sportsfishing set up and great riding boat considering it's size. The Fuel economy just amazing for a top day out 30 nautical miles out, only 60 litres. What a day and a Big GT just made the day. Make sure you release your GT's, too good to catch once and not the best eating, Go and chase some reef fish after a feed, but for sport, They'd be one of the toughest fish in the ocean. Great Barrier Reef fishing Video, Big Fish Adventure!!
http://www.reefari.com Awesome fishing video on a recent trip to Charlie's Bommie, off Mackay on the Great Barrier Reef, A big trip approximately 75 Nautical miles off Mackay. Big distances but they do pay off with some awesome fishing, and big reef fish as shown in this video. We had some great fun Bottom bashing for prime reef fish, with plenty of Red Emperor, Coral trout, Nannygai, spangled emperor and heaps more, although sharks are always present and can be a problem at times. We also did some trolling of lures along the reef edge and caught a few nice Shark Mackerel which were tagged and released, and even tried for some Giant Trevally using poppers and stickbaits, but only managed a big long tom too Ian, buts that's fishing for you. It pays to be flexible and try different fishing methods, as some techniques may be shut down, plus adds a bit of variety to your reef fishing trip. Please subscribe with more great fishing videos and fishing tips coming up. A Contrasting First Day Of The Year
It was a great day, in the beginning. Sunny, blue skies, barely any winds, great water visibility. But in the distance, you could see the row of black ominous clouds looming in the horizon. I think the fish could feel the pressure building and high tailed out of there because there was nary a fish to be found. I chummed up Ballyhoo, but nothing wanted to chase them. I could barely pull out some dinks here and there. Waited a bit too long and those winds came rolling through. Ended up surfing home. I tested my new method of making bait bags at Chocolate Beach. The baits i used were frozen Ika (Squid) & fresh Blue Pincher Crab. Any "smelly" bait will work. You need to include the guts to enhance the aromatic scent. You will save money using this system. How? I'm always checking & changing my baits when i use shrimp or squid. Using this system you don't have to ever check your bait or re-bait. Also you won't lose the bait when casting. All day long i was feeding something "big" out there. It kept cutting my 60# fluorocarbon leader line. Actually i ran out of bait, first time this has happen to me. But i used my extension net & caught enough Blue Pincher Crabs to continue fishing. I was just happy that my new system works. Got no vids on the massive strikes as the duration was under 10sec and either the bags were torn off or the line cut. You can purchase this tubular elastic bandage rolls at most medical supply houses or pharmaceuticals. The size i like is #01 at 1/2in. The tube expands so you can keep adding to it. I was very pleased with the results, you will to. For those that "think" the nylon in the stretchable bags are bad for the fish & the environment has never used this method. After 100's of bags used by myself & my friends not a single one ended-up on the reef or remained within a fish. When a fish hits a bag the fact that the hook is intertwined with the hook makes it next to impossible for the bag to easily fall off that hook unless you pinch the barbs thus forming a "barbless" hook. The only exception is if the leaderline breaks. Please share my videos & subscribe to my channel Scuba Chris if you like what i do. If you decide to graciously donate to my page Scuba Chris please let me know as YouTube doesn't inform me who donates. I purchase all my highlighted equipment to produce these videos. August 30, 2018 New England Fishing Report with Toby Lapinski
Follow the weekly fishing reports across New England at http://www.thefisherman.com/index.cfm?fuseaction=directory.category&PDIR=24. I am starting off this week with the hottest thing for fluke fiends right now, the 6-inch salmon red Gulp grubs. John Skinner posted a video about a week and a half ago on his YouTube page slaying some big fluke on the new color. Now, after the more than 30,000 views of the video, it is selling out anywhere it can be found and some people are even putting it up on eBay with buy it now prices of $750 for 50 packs! And that doesn’t even include shipping. Now I’m not sure if the color is magic or what the deal is, but like I said, it’s being scoffed up faster than it can be produced and has becomes this season’s equivalent to Cabbage Patch Kids, Beanie Babies or Ferbie, so if you happen to see a bag on the shelf of your local tackle shop, be sure to buy it and let me know how you do with it! More big news this week on the Southern Speedsters of bonito, false albacore king mackerel. Bonito catches have been blowing up in Buzzards Bay, off the Vineyard and across Rhode Island from Newport to Watch Hill, while Long Island Sound anglers are being forced to either head east to find fish or sit tight and wait for the first signs of fish to enter the Sound. Keith Main of Pawcatuck was fishing off Watch Hill on Monday, and he got into some solid bonito action in the rips. It’s not usually too far behind the Watch Hill rips having bonito that the fish start moving into the Sound, so it just might be worth some hunting this weekend! Despite plenty of rumors and internet chatter, I am still waiting for the first confirmed false albacore locally for the season. If you happen to score an albie this week, snap a photo of the catch and send it to me as I am looking for a local cover of an albie for a September issue of The Fisherman Magazine. Be sure to take the photo in vertical format, keep the background clear and uncluttered, and email the original, unedited high-resolution image to me at [email protected] Be sure to include some details on the catch and I’ll select one of the photos to appear on a local cover in early September. And speaking of contributions from you, the viewer, if you would like to be a part of the weekly fishing videos here at The Fisherman Magazine, I am looking for social media savvy anglers for hyperlocal reporting across New England. All that you need is a smart phone and some fishing reports to contribute! So if you are a captain, tackle shop or hardcore angler, please contact me today at [email protected] And for an example of what kind of information and format I am looking for, check out the Long Island weekly fishing report videos as we have been testing out the concept with great results on Long Island for several weeks. Along the lines of viewer contributions, I received a very cool video from Capt. Scott Campbell of Fishing Frenzy Charters in Charlestown, MA this week. Capt. Scott had some clients out shark fishing over the weekend, and within about 10 minutes of setting up the slick in 300 feet of water east of Stellwagen Bank, a line with a skirted mackerel started singing. After about a 1 hour and 45 minute fight on a Shimano 50w, the crew boated a 95-inch thresher shark. What’s better is that Capt. Scott captured some very cool footage of the shark breaching during the battle. Check it out…. On the bottom fishing front, black sea bass action is still excellent pretty much everywhere. The Fisherman’s New England advertising sales manager, Dale Nicholson reported some very good success on sea bass in the Eastern Sound over the weekend. I am getting word that while you have to move a bit deeper than earlier in the month, boat limits are the norm with pretty much everything from jigs to bait producing quite well. And last up, I got word from Capt. Jason Colby of Little Sister Charters this week on Buzzards Bay bottom fishing. He has been slamming black sea bass, tautog, fluke and even a few brown sharks, but the big news comes from his Tuesday trip. He took a run east with cod on the agenda. Along the way he stopped off at some high flyers to check for mahi and only found some really small fish, so he moved to his cod numbers and absolutely loaded up. He said the cod averaged over 20 pounds per fish, and they also boated some pollock and other bottom-dwellers, too. Jason runs these long-distance open-boat trips when the conditions allow, so call him today to see if you can get in on the bite! Remember that if I didn’t get to your species or location of choice this week, you can always check out the complete fishing reports from Maine to the Mid-Atlantic at http://www.thefisherman.com/index.cfm?fuseaction=directory.category&PDIR=11.

How to Rig a DOA Jerk Bait for Saltwater Fishing - Underwater Footage Included
This video shows how to rig a DOA jerk bait for saltwater fishing to catch redfish, trout and snook on the flats. When rigged properly, this is an amazingly effective bait. However, when rigged wrong, it will helicopter (aka... spin) underwater and will not look natural to your target species. To help you understand how it should look when rigged properly, we made this video so you can see how it should look both above the water as well as underneath the water when rigged and worked properly. For working the bait, I find the best results casting with the wind (for max distance and feel on the retrieve) and doing short/quick twitches with my rod tip pointing up... the twitches should only move your rod from a 10:00 to 11:00 position. If casting into or across the wind, I'll often point my rod tip down so the wind doesn't take control of the line. How to Cast a Spinning Reel/Rod - For Beginners
In this video demonstration, I show you how to cast a spinning reel/rod. This is great for beginners or anyone who wants to perfect their cast, utilizing spinning tackle. Before learning how to cast, I recommend learning the fundamental terminology of the reel, such as the bail, drag dial, crank and gear ratio. The bail is what allows you to release line from the reel; it also oscillates evenly to add the line back to the reel. The drag dial allows you to adjust drag tension. The crank or handle is what you will turn to retrieve your line. The reel gear ratio is what determines how fast the line is retrieved, higher gear ratios are faster. Next you want to open the bail and place your index or trigger finger on the line like I showed in the demonstration. You then want to have 6-8 inches of line hanging from your rod tip to your lure. If it is much longer, your casting accuracy will suffer drastically. Point your rod at the intended target and pull the rod back or load the rod and cast in the direction of your target while releasing the line from your finger. If the lure shoot in the air, you released too soon, if it fly’s down by your feet you held on to long. Don’t worry, practice a little and you will get the hang of it in no time. 1-2-3 Low Profile Castable Umbrella (www.123FishingRigs.com)
www.123Fishingrigs.com - A very low profile, light tackle, 5 arm castable umbrella rig. Measuring 2-3 inches across and 12 inches long. Attach 5 swimbaits and this rig simulates a very tight bait ball with a longer single trailing bait on the center leg. Having a lower profile also means less effort and wind resistance when casting. Total rig weighs less than 1/4 oz. Add a weighted jig head to the center leg to gain more casting distance. Your order includes 4 Dummy J Post to attach teasers to the 4 bait arms without hooks, which is a must for an optimal presentation. Soft baits and hooks are not included. Great for deep and shallow water. Works on Bass, Crappie, White Perch, Yellow Perch, Rock Fish, Striped Bass and much more.

Fishing Namotu Island Fiji with iFish TV
Most of you probably know Namotu Island, Fiji for it’s incredible surfing and kiting, but it also has world-class fishing that’s practically within casting distance of the beach. Fishing is one of my biggest passions and there’s no better place to indulge it than Namotu Island. Here in Australia, IFish is one of the biggest and most recognised fishing shows. Paul and his wife, Cristy, their son Jet, and the team work hard and play hard and are so passionate about fishing. We wanted them to visit Namotu so they could experience the incredible fishing and also get a taste of the other water sports on offer. I particularly wanted to showcase how close the fishing is to the Island, something that is so unlike other destinations where everything is at least 30 minutes away. Even that kind of distance means long days on the water, eating packed lunches and missing out on time with friends and family. Here on Namotu you can head out for a few hours fishing then come back for lunch or when the wind or surf picks up. It means you can fit a whole lot more into each day without feeling trapped on the boat. Plus you can bring your wife and kids along without making them feel abandoned while you take off fishing all week. That’s never a good idea for maintaining a healthy relationship.

How to Rig a Popping Cork For Redfish & Trout
Here is a tutorial on how to rig a popping cork for redfish and trout. The popping cork is an extremely effective and simple technique to catch fish. The tools needed include a medium to light spinning rod, soft plastic lure or ½ -1/4 ounce DOA shrimp, 20-30lb fluorocarbon monofilament leader and a popping cork. I chose the Cajun Thunder cork because of durability, and construction with both plastic and brass beads. The thrashing of the cork resonates a high pitch noise that fish cannot resist. When the fish investigate the surface commotion, they are quickly greeted by the artificial lure, which entices the strike. You want to retrieve at different speeds and test different cadences for best results. Add a little touch of Gulp spray to your lure for an additional advantage. If you like this tutorial, please like, share and subscribe and I will continue making helpful videos. Thank you! WHERE and HOW to fish from shore on the Homer spit AK Alaska cod flounder
Drive to the end of the spit for fishing. There is parking near Lands End and walk down to the beach. Try to cast out to the piling / platform as far as you can. Herring works the best. If you haven't got a bite in 10 minutes either you have no bait or you need new bait. They love fresh bait. Change your bait often if you want to catch a bunch of fish. (If you use any of this information, please post a response on your success!) I use a size #6 hook, not too big. I put on some weight, too heavy and the fish won't budge it, too light and it gets blown away (about the size from my pinkie tip to the second knuckle. I put on a quarter size chunk or a little bigger and cast gently. Herring is a soft meat and too much force when casting and it shoots off. Cast out gently, let it drop, real in any slack and wait for a tug, then wait a few seconds and tug back. Real in and do it again. Low tide is the best as you can get closer to the pilings. The super super minus tides has the end piling up to the edge of the water and fisherman can have a blast on these ultra low tides reeling in cod, when the tide is this low casting lures works well. I like using a Twister Tail and jig head if I do cast. It is cheap and works great, plus you can get then easily in any of the 50 states and Canada. These work well and are CHEAP!!! No need to lose a $5-$8 lure when you get snagged. A fifty cent jobber works just as good or better and who really cares when you get snagged. You can lose 10-15 of these set up for every pixie or vibrax lost. I use a white twister tail, but I an sure any color works. I use at least a 1/8 oz jig head or bigger. I have never been skunked down there and is a great way to spend an afternoon. I catch gray cod, flounder, tomcod, sometime silvers are caught on the end casting spoons. I prefer to just relax and use cut bait. fishing toward slack tide is best otherwise the current can be too much and low tide is the best as you can get closer to the pilings. All the water that goes in and out of Kachemak Bay pushes past the spit. If you are going to be in Homer and are waiting to head out on a halibut charter to just want something to do this can be fun. This is a cheap and enjoyable time. If your spouse is on a charter and you have the kids this would be a great way to spend part of the day, plus you don't have to worry about them breaking anything in the gift shops. The view is spectacular from there as well. You will see a ton of boats and the mountains just across. You won't catch any Halibut (atleast) I've never seen it done but have heard of a few, so they might be in there or they may just be fish stories. At certain times of the year fish can be caught in the lagoon. If the silvers are in you'll see a bunch of fisherman and this is best when the tide is coming up, in the lagoon eggs, vibrax or a pixie can be a good choice(not cut bait), but the end of the spit still sees way more action and to me is way more fun! Michael Jeff When the seas are too rough to go out on the charter and the charters say no, and you need something to do while your in Homer beside hitting the gift shops again. You can catch some bottom fish and still have an Alaskan fish dinner, just probably not halibut. I have never tried hotdogs but I know I have tipped my halibut hooks with them and caught fish. Try Hotdogs if you want to save a few bucks. I always just used the cheapest hotdog brand I could buy. Any viscera would work as well just make sure you keep your bait changed regularly and bring plenty of weight/lead to cast your bait out there. Hi and low tides work great! You can also hit the cleaning tables and help clean some fish at the cleaning stations if your board. I know most everyone throws out the fish and you salvage a decent amount of meat off the fish. Most everyone will gladly let you take the cheeks. You could probably get 5 pounds of halibut from going through and cleaning up someone elses limit. Cheap way to get some halibut and they are just going to throw it out. When I come in I always love it when someone offers to help clean a few of my fish, but some people are all high and mighty and don't want anyone even looking at their fish. These are typically the people that hog the cleaning stations and take FOREVER to clean their fish. Just talk to them and if they're nice they'll have no issue showing you how its done and letting you dig out a few cheeks and cleaning out some meat off the soft stomach area that is often discarded at the stations. The flounders are a nice tasting white meat with no worms in them that I have seen. If I keep a cod I fillet it and the use my knife to take out any worms. Some people just cook them warm enough and eat them. I let the cod go or give them away as I hate digging out worms and have enough halibut. ( Gryga ) After a drink at the Salty Dog Saloon just walk. Best of Luck and Tight Lines!!!
