This is a very complicated world. It’s a very noisy world. And we’re not going to get a chance to get people to remember much about us. No company is! And so, we have to be really clear on what we want them to know about us. Now Apple, fortunately, is one of half-a-dozen best brands in the whole world. Right up there with Nike, Disney, Coke, Sony — it is one of the greats of the greats. Not just in this country, but all around the globe. But even a great brand needs investment and caring if it’s going to retain its relevance and vitality. And the Apple brand has clearly suffered from neglect in this area in the last few years. And we need to bring it back! The way to do that is NOT to talk about speeds and fees. It’s NOT to talk about bits and mega-hertz. It’s NOT to talk about why we are better than Windows. The dairy industry tried for 20 years to convince you that milk was good for you. It’s a lie, but they tried anyway. And the sales were falling. And then they tried “Got milk” and the sales went up. “Got milk” wasn’t even talking about the product. In fact, it focuses on the absence of the product. But the best example of all, and one of the greatest jobs of marketing that the universe has ever seen, is Nike. Remember, Nike sells a commodity. They sell shoes!!! And yet, when you think of Nike you feel something different than a shoe company. In their ads, as you know, they don’t ever talk about the product. They don’t ever tell you about their air soles and why they are better than Reebok’s air soles. What does Nike do in their advertising? They honor great athletes. And they honor great athletics. That’s who they are, that’s what they are about! Apple spends a fortune on advertising — you’d never know it….you’d never know it! So…when I got here, Apple just fired their agency and there was a competition with 23 agencies that…you know…four years from now we would pick one. And we blew that up and we hired Chiat\Day, the ad agency that I was fortunate enough to work with years ago and created some award winning work including the commercial voted the best ad ever made, 1984 (by Advertising Professionals). And…we started working about eight weeks ago, and the question we asked was, “Our customers want to know who is Apple and what is it that we stand for…where do we fit in this world?” And what we’re about isn’t making boxes for people to get their jobs done — although we do that well. We do that better than almost anybody, in some cases. But Apple is about something more than that! Apple at the core…its core value — is that, we believe that people with passion can change the world for the better. That’s what we believe! And we have had the opportunity to work with people like that. We’ve had the opportunity to work with people like you; with software developers, with customers, who have done it. In some big, and some small ways. And we believe that, in this world, people can change it for the better. And that those people who are crazy enough to think that they can change the world are the ones that actually do! And so, what we’re going to do in our first brand marketing campaign in several years, is to get back to that core value! A lot of things have changed. The market is in a total different place than where it was a decade ago. And Apple is totally different — and Apple’s place in it is totally different. And believe me, the products, and the distribution strategy, and the manufacturing are totally different…and we understand that. But values and core values — those things shouldn’t change. We're here to answer your questions. If you have one, leave a comment below, and we may answer it in next week's episode. So Adam, what's this week's question? This one is from Dipak. It says, hey Neil, thanks for making this awesome video. Would you like to make one video about product launches? Like pros and cons during the launch process? The first thing you need to know when you're doing a product launch is that you need to have a platform that allows you not only to sell the product but to deliver the product. A simple way to sell the product is using click funnels. A simple way to deliver the product is using Kajabi. Kajabi allows you to deliver a course to people once they buy. Click Funnels allows you to optimize the funnels so you can get more purchases and sales. Technically, Kajabi can do all of that. But I prefer Click Funnels on the front end, and I love using Kajabi on the back end to deliver the course, drip people the content over time. Now that you got the software solutions, what you want to do is create a web page with the offering for your product launch. Use Click Funnels to create a video talking about your product, the price points, what they're going to get for it, and you can just create a script. Create a little quick intro video on Click Funnels. You can do this on your iPhone. You say in this intro video, hey everyone, wanna learn how to grow your YouTube channel? Register for this webinar. I'm going to show you 11 secrets on how to grow your YouTube channel. Once they register, you have a PowerPoint presentation. The PowerPoint presentation is going to be around 45 minutes to an hour. The first 30 minutes you're going to educate them on all these cool crazy YouTube tactics. Don't charge for it. Just give away all the information for free. After you do that, you said, hey, now that you've learned everything, do you want to hear a simpler way to grow your YouTube channel? I showed you all the ways that you can do it on your own, but would you like to learn some of the hacks that I use that speed up the process so that way you don't have to take seven, eight months to get results and you could get results in three months? Usually, people say yes. Then you hook them with a special offer. Normally, if I did one on one YouTube consulting and you went to people in person, you're going to charge five figures. You would end by saying, but, if you want to do this, I have a special offer for you, you can get it now for whatever price. Once you have people are saying yes, yes, yes. Then what you want to do is send them to a page where they can check out. You can do this all on Click Funnels. You can also do this live. You host a live webinar once a month, or you can make an evergreen webinar. If you want to make an evergreen webinar, webinar jam has software called everwebinar. Once you've completed those steps, you can drive traffic to your product launch using YouTube ads or Facebook ads. Facebook ads tend to convert better than YouTube ads. The other strategy for a product launch is to go to all the popular bloggers in your space, contact them and offer to give them 30, 40, 50% of every single sale you drive. Do a joint webinar with them. They'll push your product, and you can generate sales. ConvertKit does a wonderful job of this. Their revenue figures are public. They're doing over ten million a year in revenue. Most of their revenue is driven by affiliates and launches. Another product launch tip is to contact all of the people who clicked on your check out page but didn't buy. You re-market to them with the YouTube and Facebook video that breaks in with what they would get if they purchase. Send them back to the check out page. You'll notice it will be your highest converting ad campaign. That's what we did. It has worked amazingly well. It still works. She's found the transition to doing more LIVE a bit of an adjustment, but has found it a powerful way to get to know her audiences better, as she learns to balance the interaction with providing value. From video creator to book author As a video creator, Amy initially felt that a book was a strange move away from the medium where her audience had found her. But they told her, over and over, that they wanted a book. So, "Vlog Like a Boss" was born. And she took the process of writing and launching the book as an opportunity to detail the journey for her audience. That had the effect of involving them in the launch and making them her "book squad"! She formed an email list and kept people up to date on every step. This is so amazing: She was giving her audience exactly what they wanted, and in return they were becoming her most outspoken marketing advocates. Daily vlogs of a launch For the entire month of January, she has been vlogging the day-by-day work of launching the book. Including a "top secret project"! :) Launches are all about tiny little details, and I love that Amy has created a record of her daily journey through all the bits and pieces. The power of ASKING! Over and over in our talk there was a simple message from Amy: If you want something, ASK. It was her audience asking for the book that made it a reality. It was her asking them to join a "book squad" that gave her a powerful and dedicated marketing corps. And it was asking her online idols, like Justine Ezarik and Gary Vanerchuk, for book jacket testimonials, that got them to say yes without hesitation. When i list houses, i have two waves of marketing releases that i use. One that i do when the listing goes live to the whole world, and one that starts several weeks in advance. Remember, everything i do is geared towards our goal: the highest price in the shortest time possible. Having a pre-marketing plan does this by accomplishing two things: Number 1. Early exposure. Kind of like marketing a pocket listing while we get everything else ready. And number 2. Get feedback before we officially hit the market. Now the main focus with early exposure is to get in front of the buyer pool that we know will be interested in the home. One thing we start with is a squeeze page... We have tested the best possible layouts to get maximum response. Fun fact: At Teles Properties, 80% of our marketing budget goes into research and development. With these squeeze pages, after we get their info, we can start to qualify these buyers now, and invite them to special events later. That includes giving them a special sneak peak to teasers, password-protected property websites, and pre-launch parties. In sales, you know it's all about repetition... So we hit our targeted buyers over and over, from all angles. We create custom audiences through facebook pixels, demographics, local interests, tailored dark-post response behavior, and build lookalike audiences from open house email lists and contacts from the squeeze page. We also hit them with search engine marketing and other places on the web through native online advertising networks. In physical form, one of my favorites is to target the most overlooked area of real estate... Neighbors. Reaching out to them is great for two reasons: 1. Everyone would love the opportunity to choose their neighbors. And 2. They can be a wealth of information. Selling real estate is all about the story and the lifestyle. Some of your neighbors might have been there 30 - 40 years and know a thing or two about your home as well as the neighborhood. We also hit the local agents through a lot of the same channels we do with buyers As well as a few others. I let them know what's coming down the pike, so they can perk up their ears and get their buyer clients ready. By that time... Buyers have heard from me, as well as their agents. That's called reinforcement! And the best part... The home isn't even on the market yet! So that's early exposure... The other thing i mentioned was feedback. Just how important is it to get feedback before you hit the market? Ask the sellers who have homes sitting on the market for a couple months with no offers. Do you want that to be your house? Of course not. A lot of agents will tell you we're in a "cooling market", but that doesn't explain why some homes are still flying off the shelves. It's a cop out. I've said it before... Don't just get the listing up. Get it right. Once you're on the market, every single move you make is being judged. Buyers will fly in experts from all over the world just to interpret their meaning. Think about it: Lots of big companies "test market" their products before the big release. What if we could do that too? Good news is, I do. How important is it that we get it right the first time? Okay, so I’m gonna be upfront with you. I really don’t read a lot of marketing books. Sure, I devoured all the classics. Still, for the life of me I couldn’t name the latest and greatest marketing and advertising book topping the best-seller list. But you’re a marketing Wizard, you say. How can this be? Oh, no! I’ve been exposed as a fraud. I dunno. Maybe it’s the non-conformist in me. More likely than not, it’s because I want to know the root of an idea’s origins. I want to know WHY something works. So I’ve developed my persuasive prowess by studying neurology, psychology, biology, and the arts. That’s probably how I stumbled upon a little-known research book titled, Diffusion of Innovations by Everette M. Rogers. It’s a book every Marketing Wizard should read. And it definitely ranks as a classic. Yes, when Roger’s speaks of innovations, he’s referring to new products or services being introduced to the marketplace. But, the concepts found in his book provides any Marketing Wizard with a rock-solid blueprint for persuading customers to buy from you—even if what you’re selling has been around longer than Jerry Lewis. Is he still alive? Just look at all the dog-eared pages and highlights I made. Lots of good marketing mojo in this book for sure. Like this: “In developing a favorable or unfavorable attitude toward an innovation, an individual may mentally apply the new idea to his or her present or anticipated future situation before deciding whether or not to try it,” says Rogers. “This vicarious trial involves the ability to think hypothetically and counterfactually and to project into the future: What if I adopt this innovation? Forward planning is involved at the persuasion stage.” Helping your customers to imagine doing the thing that you want them to do. That’s what Rogers is talking about here. And that’s what you’re trying to make happen with your marketing as well. So let’s get knee deep into the five factors that influence the spread of new ideas and lead to widespread adoption: Number One: Relative Advantage - the degree to which an innovation is perceived to be better than the product or service it supersedes. Naturally, the greater the perceived relative advantage of an innovation, the more rapid its rate of adoption will be. Your goal here is to frame the buying conversation to favor you. Since we know that customers naturally contrast and compare the differences among their available options, you must make an apples-to-oranges comparison—rising above the competition to become the obvious choice. Now, logical, reason why marketing is important … but don’t forget to speak to your customer’s emotions. Tap into an emotional benefit that drives your customer’s desire—one that your customer is willing to pay for. Marketing and advertising that speaks to a dominant, driving emotion is much more powerful and persuasive than copy that makes a logical argument alone. Number Two: Compatibility - the degree to which an innovation is perceived to be consistent with existing values, past experiences and the needs of potential adopters. Products and services that are deemed less compatible or incompatible with the norms of a social system will not be adopted as rapidly as those that are. Please don’t expect your customers to adopt a new belief system. You can’t please all. Remember, only weasel brands try’n snuggle up to every customer in the marketplace. So find a group of customers with a social system that your products and services are compatible with. Number Three: Complexity - the degree to which which an innovation is perceived to be difficult to understand and use. Simplicity is a better way to think about this. Marketers have known for awhile now that uncertainty is the costly side-effect of overwhelming your customers with too much choice. Generally speaking, the more options customers have at their fingertips, the more indecisive they’ll become. And complexity often creates the desire for simplicity. Someone is launching their new program, their new service, their new coaching consultation, their new product they just ordered a bunch of. Right? I feel like we forget about the pre-launch and post-launch strategy and I truly believe that if we spend just a few more moments on the pre-launch and post-launch phase we can up our engagement and conversions during our launch phase. And these 2 secrets are… 1) Sales Velocity 2) Conversions These are the 2 key factors the Amazon algorithm uses when choosing which products will sit at the top of their search results (the search engine accounts for 90% of sales on Amazon). Here is what you need to do to launch your first Amazon FBA product and make it a home-run success (even if it’s your first product): You need to match (or ideally improve on) the sales velocity & conversions of your top competitor for 2 weeks. If you do this… then your item will soar to the top of the search results - and YOU’LL start making all of the organic sales for your product! Hack #1 to launch your first Amazon FBA private label product & make initial sales: Use product giveaways Product giveaways for your Amazon FBA private label product are one of the most powerful strategies at your disposal for massively increasing your sales velocity & conversions. You can’t give products away for free but you can give people a heavily discounted coupon that lets them buy it for just 99 cents, which means you are basically giving it away for free. And this is simple: Sign up for a service like JumpSend or ZonBlast. These services have a huge membership base of people that are keen to purchase heavily discounted items on Amazon. They will then distribute your coupon to it’s members. Not only will this drastically increase your sales, but the conversions will be high: You can expect around 50%. Hack #2 to launch your first Amazon FBA private label product & make initial sales: Lower the price If your item starts getting sales (product giveaways are of course a great way to do this) and traction, you can then attract more sales from simply lowering the price below your competition for a week or two. If your product is already ranked in the top few results and you want to climb to the top, this strategy alone can be enough. Hack #3 to launch your first Amazon FBA private label product & make initial sales: Use SuperURLs When someone clicks on your product listing after finding it using the Amazon search engine, they enter using a SuperURL: It’s a URL containing tracking information that tells the Amazon algorithm that they arrived at your listing through finding it using the search engine. You can give people this URL instead of your usual product URL to trick the algorithm into thinking that people found (and bought your item) through finding it using the search engine. Be aware though, this is a controversial method. Experts like Daniel recommend only pushing through a maximum of 20% of your sales this way. Hack #4 to launch your first Amazon FBA private label product & make initial sales: Use paid advertising You can place paid ads in the Amazon search engine for your item, targeting specific keywords. When someone buys a product through clicking on it, not only will this increase your sales velocity - but it’ll help your product rank organically for that keyword as well. Hack #5 to launch your first Amazon FBA private label product & make initial sales: Increase the conversions on your listing & get reviews It’s not enough to get the initial sales & conversions from drastically lowering your price: You need to have a high-converting listing so that when you reach the top of the search results you’ll keep making more sales than your competitor, otherwise the Amazon algorithm will drop you in the results. Here are some tips for increasing your conversions on your listing: * Have the maximum number of HD photos that are big enough the customer can zoom in on them. * Have a keyword rich product title. * Have multiple bullet points with excellent copy. * Have a descriptive product description that has photos included in it. Be sure to email and follow up with your customers, asking them to leave an honest review. If you do this, you can increase the rate of people leaving a review to as high as 10-15% (compared to less than 5%). Hack #6 to launch your first Amazon FBA private label product & make initial sales: Use Amazon Marketing Services Amazon Market Services (AMS) is an advertising platform that you need to be specially approved for. When you are approved it lets you advertise on lots of pages on Amazon, such as your competitor’s pages. Because it requires pre-approval, most of your competition won’t be using it. So you can use this to place ads in larger amounts than 99% of your competitors and outsell them.

Our Brief: We examining the way fuel moved around the World - from rigs to revs - and it became clear there was a problem with the ‘final mile’ solution. In certain situations, it was difficult taking fuel from a tanker, bowser or large oil drum to the machine itself. There needed to be lightweight, convenient and manoeuvrable solution. But alas, there was already a contender - either the trusty and rusty old Jerry Can or the non-recyclable and difficult to dispose of hard plastic jerry can. Yet, the more we looked, the clearer it became that Jerry had had his time as old cans still be in use would often accumulate with sand, soil, old debris and even rust, which could all cause severe engine problems by blocking up fuel filters. This type of breakdown is a big problem for hire shops who rent diesel-powered construction equipment which then needs time-consuming on-site repairing. By setting our sights on the old stalwart, the Jerry Can, we could solve a big problem for site workers and hire plants alike. Therefore, it was time to kill off Jerry. Taking reference from key communities, such as ‘On the Tools’, it was clear that we needed to adopt the lingua-franca of the construction yard: entertaining, light-hearted and a little tongue in cheek. We chose film as the best medium to convey this comic spin and began storyboarding concepts that would put across our message in a fun and shareable way. Jerry must die. Across a two-day shoot, we took our motley cast and crew of authentic builders to a site where we brought the concept to life…. [INSERT FILMS] The Product Launch Outcome: As with all B2C or B2B launches, the critical component is to solve real problems for real people. The moment of truth is bringing this solution to those early-adopters and innovators who will need it the most; to really connect with your heartland audience. For this film, early seeding has led to a great response within the industry, shining a light on what FuelBox is and can do.
