Part 27 Union, Intersect and Except operators in LINQ

04:42
The following operators belong to Set operators category Distinct Union Intersect Except We discussed Distinct operator in Part 26. In this video we will discuss Union, Intersect and Except operators. Union combines two collections into one collection while removing the duplicate elements. Example 1: numbers1 and numbers2 collections are combined into a single collection. Notice that, the duplicate elements are removed. int[] numbers1 = { 1, 2, 3, 4, 5 }; int[] numbers2 = { 1, 3, 6, 7, 8 }; var result = numbers1.Union(numbers2); foreach (var v in result) { Console.WriteLine(v); } When comparing elements, just like Distinct() method, Union(), Intersect() and Except() methods work in a slightly different manner with complex types like Employee, Customer etc. Example 2 : Notice that in the output the duplicate employee objects are not removed. This is because, the default comparer is being used which will just check for object references being equal and not the individual property values. List[Employee] list1 = new List[Employee]() { new Employee { ID = 101, Name = "Mike"}, new Employee { ID = 102, Name = "Susy"}, new Employee { ID = 103, Name = "Mary"} }; List[Employee] list2 = new List[Employee]() { new Employee { ID = 101, Name = "Mike"}, new Employee { ID = 104, Name = "John"} }; var result = list1.Union(list2); foreach (var v in result) { Console.WriteLine(v.ID + "\t" + v.Name); } Example 3 : To solve the problem in Example 2, there are 3 ways 1. Use the other overloaded version of Union() method to which we can pass a custom class that implements IEqualityComparer 2. Override Equals() and GetHashCode() methods in Employee class 3. Project the properties into a new anonymous type, which overrides Equals() and GetHashCode() methods Project the properties into a new anonymous type, which overrides Equals() and GetHashCode() methods List[Employee] list1 = new List[Employee]() { new Employee { ID = 101, Name = "Mike"}, new Employee { ID = 102, Name = "Susy"}, new Employee { ID = 103, Name = "Mary"} }; List[Employee] list2 = new List[Employee]() { new Employee { ID = 101, Name = "Mike"}, new Employee { ID = 104, Name = "John"} }; var result = list1.Select(x =] new { x.ID, x.Name }).Union(list2.Select(x =] new { x.ID, x.Name })); foreach (var v in result) { Console.WriteLine(v.ID + "\t" + v.Name); } Intersect() returns the common elements between the 2 collections. Example 4 : Return common elements in numbers1 and numbers2 collections. int[] numbers1 = { 1, 2, 3, 4, 5 }; int[] numbers2 = { 1, 3, 6, 7, 8 }; var result = numbers1.Intersect(numbers2); foreach (var v in result) { Console.WriteLine(v); } Except() returns the elements that are present in the first collection but not in the second collection. Example 5: Return the elements that are present in the first collection but not in the second collection. int[] numbers1 = { 1, 2, 3, 4, 5 }; int[] numbers2 = { 1, 3, 6, 7, 8 }; var result = numbers1.Except(numbers2); foreach (var v in result) { Console.WriteLine(v); }

Oracle SQL: UNION vs UNION ALL

04:45
https://www.databasestar.com/union-vs-union-all/ In this video, we’ll learn what the UNION and UNION ALL keywords are, and see what the differences between them are. The UNION and UNION ALL keywords are both set operators, meaning they work with sets of data. They are used to combine two result sets into one. They are very similar, unlike the INTERSECT and MINUS keywords which reduce the data that is shown in the result set. But other than a slight difference in their name, how can we compare Oracle SQL UNION vs UNION ALL? The main difference is how duplicates are treated, which I explain in this video. I also cover the performance differences of these two keywords, and which one is recommended. For more information on UNION and UNION ALL, including the code from these examples, refer to the related article here: https://www.databasestar.com/union-vs-union-all/

SQL Tutorial in Oracle - 4 NULL, LIKE, DISTINCT, ORDER BY

18:37
SQL SELECT statement is used to fetch the data from a database table which returns data in the form of result table. These result tables are called result-sets. The LIKE operator is used in a WHERE clause to search for a specified pattern in a column. In SQL, wildcard characters are used with the SQL LIKE operator. SQL wildcards are used to search for data within a table. With SQL, the wildcards are: Wildcard Description % A substitute for zero or more characters _ A substitute for a single character [charlist] Sets and ranges of characters to match [^charlist] or [!charlist] Matches only a character NOT specified within the brackets Check out our website: http://www.telusko.com Follow Telusko on Twitter: https://twitter.com/navinreddy20 Follow on Facebook: Telusko : https://www.facebook.com/teluskolearnings Navin Reddy : https://www.facebook.com/navintelusko Follow Navin Reddy on Instagram: https://www.instagram.com/navinreddy20 Subscribe to our other channel: Navin Reddy : https://www.youtube.com/channel/UCxmkk8bMSOF-UBF43z-pdGQ?sub_confirmation=1 Telusko Hindi : https://www.youtube.com/channel/UCitzw4ROeTVGRRLnCPws-cw?sub_confirmation=1

This video gives some examples of Type I subqueries. There are examples using IN and NOT IN. A Type I subquery is an alternative to using DISTINCT to remove duplicate rows. Subqueries, in general, are a good way to decompose a problem into smaller, simpler SQL statements. This video also shows examples of the UPPER() function and rollback. SQL: Union Vs UnionAll

04:37
In this tutorial, you'll learn what is union & unionall PL/SQL (Procedural Language/Structured Query Language) is Oracle Corporation's procedural extension for SQL and the Oracle relational database. PL/SQL is available in Oracle Database (since version 7), TimesTen in-memory database (since version 11.2.1), and IBM DB2 (since version 9.7).[1] Oracle Corporation usually extends PL/SQL functionality with each successive release of the Oracle Database. PL/SQL includes procedural language elements such as conditions and loops. It allows declaration of constants and variables, procedures and functions, types and variables of those types, and triggers. It can handle exceptions (runtime errors). Arrays are supported involving the use of PL/SQL collections. Implementations from version 8 of Oracle Database onwards have included features associated with object-orientation. One can create PL/SQL units such as procedures, functions, packages, types, and triggers, which are stored in the database for reuse by applications that use any of the Oracle Database programmatic interfaces. PL/SQL works analogously to the embedded procedural languages associated with other relational databases. For example, Sybase ASE and Microsoft SQL Server have Transact-SQL, PostgreSQL has PL/pgSQL (which emulates PL/SQL to an extent), and IBM DB2 includes SQL Procedural Language,[2] which conforms to the ISO SQL’s SQL/PSM standard. The designers of PL/SQL modeled its syntax on that of Ada. Both Ada and PL/SQL have Pascal as a common ancestor, and so PL/SQL also resembles Pascal in several aspects. However, the structure of a PL/SQL package does not resemble the basic Object Pascal program structure as implemented by a Borland Delphi or Free Pascal unit. Programmers can define public and private global data-types, constants and static variables in a PL/SQL package.[3] PL/SQL also allows for the definition of classes and instantiating these as objects in PL/SQL code. This resembles usage in object-oriented programming languages like Object Pascal, C++ and Java. PL/SQL refers to a class as an "Abstract Data Type" (ADT) or "User Defined Type" (UDT), and defines it as an Oracle SQL data-type as opposed to a PL/SQL user-defined type, allowing its use in both the Oracle SQL Engine and the Oracle PL/SQL engine. The constructor and methods of an Abstract Data Type are written in PL/SQL. The resulting Abstract Data Type can operate as an object class in PL/SQL. Such objects can also persist as column values in Oracle database tables. PL/SQL is fundamentally distinct from Transact-SQL, despite superficial similarities. Porting code from one to the other usually involves non-trivial work, not only due to the differences in the feature sets of the two languages,[4] but also due to the very significant differences in the way Oracle and SQL Server deal with concurrency and locking. There are software tools available that claim to facilitate porting including Oracle Translation Scratch Editor,[5] CEITON MSSQL/Oracle Compiler [6] and SwisSQL.[7] The StepSqlite product is a PL/SQL compiler for the popular small database SQLite. PL/SQL Program Unit A PL/SQL program unit is one of the following: PL/SQL anonymous block, procedure, function, package specification, package body, trigger, type specification, type body, library. Program units are the PL/SQL source code that is compiled, developed and ultimately executed on the database. The basic unit of a PL/SQL source program is the block, which groups together related declarations and statements. A PL/SQL block is defined by the keywords DECLARE, BEGIN, EXCEPTION, and END. These keywords divide the block into a declarative part, an executable part, and an exception-handling part. The declaration section is optional and may be used to define and initialize constants and variables. If a variable is not initialized then it defaults to NULL value. The optional exception-handling part is used to handle run time errors. Only the executable part is required. A block can have a label. Package Packages are groups of conceptually linked functions, procedures, variables, PL/SQL table and record TYPE statements, constants, cursors etc. The use of packages promotes re-use of code. Packages are composed of the package specification and an optional package body. The specification is the interface to the application; it declares the types, variables, constants, exceptions, cursors, and subprograms available. The body fully defines cursors and subprograms, and so implements the specification. Two advantages of packages are: Modular approach, encapsulation/hiding of business logic, security, performance improvement, re-usability. They support object-oriented programming features like function overloading and encapsulation. Using package variables one can declare session level (scoped) variables, since variables declared in the package specification have a session scope.

Using DISTINCT in SQL

08:53
A brief beginner's introduction to the DISTINCT operator in SQL. DISTINCT creates a set of unique records, based on field values. In other words, duplicates records, based on field values, are removed. DISTINCT is often used with COUNT, to achieve a count of distinct values. Be aware that NULL is treated as a distinct value in terms of records, but COUNT ignores NULLs. See the full code here: https://douglaskline.blogspot.com/2018/10/using-distinct-in-sql.html

What is the difference between Union and Union All Operator in SQL Server - TSQL Tutorial

10:11
"Union" and "Union All" Operators combine the result set of two or more queries. The operators can be only applied to the result sets which return same number of columns as well the data types for the columns match. As both Operators (Union and Union All ) combines the result sets, but there is a small difference between them Union returns the distinct records from result sets. Union All returns everything from results sets. Blog post link for the video with scripts http://sqlage.blogspot.com/2014/08/tsql-what-is-difference-between-union.html

UNION operator returns all the unique rows from both the left and the right query. UNION ALL included the duplicates as well. INTERSECT operator retrieves the common unique rows from both the left and the right query. EXCEPT operator returns unique rows from the left query that aren’t in the right query’s results. UNION operator returns all the unique rows from both the queries. Notice the duplicates are removed. Select Id, Name, Gender from TableA UNION Select Id, Name, Gender from TableB UNION ALL operator returns all the rows from both the queries, including the duplicates. Select Id, Name, Gender from TableA UNION ALL Select Id, Name, Gender from TableB INTERSECT operator retrieves the common unique rows from both the left and the right query. Notice the duplicates are removed. Select Id, Name, Gender from TableA INTERSECT Select Id, Name, Gender from TableB EXCEPT operator returns unique rows from the left query that aren’t in the right query’s results. Select Id, Name, Gender from TableA EXCEPT Select Id, Name, Gender from TableB If you wnat the rows that are present in Table B but not in Table A, reverse the queries. Select Id, Name, Gender from TableB EXCEPT Select Id, Name, Gender from TableA For all these 3 operators to work the following 2 conditions must be met The number and the order of the columns must be same in both the queries The data types must be same or at least compatible For example, if the number of columns are different, you will get the following error Msg 205, Level 16, State 1, Line 1 All queries combined using a UNION, INTERSECT or EXCEPT operator must have an equal number of expressions in their target lists. sql intersect vs join sql server intersect example sql server intersect vs inner join sql server inner join remove duplicates In this video we will discuss 1. Intersect operator in sql server 2. Difference between intersect and inner join Intersect operator retrieves the common records from both the left and the right query of the Intersect operator. Introduced in SQL Server 2005 The number and the order of the columns must be same in both the queries The data types must be same or at least compatible Let us understand INTERSECT operator with an example. The following query retrieves the common records from both the left and the right query of the Intersect operator. Select Id, Name, Gender from TableA Intersect Select Id, Name, Gender from TableB We can also achieve the same thinkg using INNER join. The following INNER join query would produce the exact same result. Select TableA.Id, TableA.Name, TableA.Gender From TableA Inner Join TableB On TableA.Id = TableB.Id What is the difference between INTERSECT and INNER JOIN 1. INTERSECT filters duplicates and returns only DISTINCT rows that are common between the LEFT and Right Query, where as INNER JOIN does not filter the duplicates. To understand this difference, insert the following row into TableA Insert into TableA values (2, 'Mary', 'Female') Now execute the following INTERSECT query. Notice that we get only the DISTINCT rows Select Id, Name, Gender from TableA Intersect Select Id, Name, Gender from TableB Now execute the following INNER JOIN query. Notice that the duplicate rows are not filtered. Select TableA.Id, TableA.Name, TableA.Gender From TableA Inner Join TableB On TableA.Id = TableB.Id You can make the INNER JOIN behave like INTERSECT operator by using the DISTINCT operator Select DISTINCT TableA.Id, TableA.Name, TableA.Gender From TableA Inner Join TableB On TableA.Id = TableB.Id 2. INNER JOIN treats two NULLS as two different values. So if you are joining two tables based on a nullable column and if both tables have NULLs in that joining column then, INNER JOIN will not include those rows in the result-set, where as INTERSECT treats two NULLs as a same value and it returns all matching rows. To understand this difference, execute the following 2 insert statements Insert into TableA values(NULL, 'Pam', 'Female') Insert into TableB values(NULL, 'Pam', 'Female') INTERSECT query Select Id, Name, Gender from TableA Intersect Select Id, Name, Gender from TableB INNER JOIN query Select TableA.Id, TableA.Name, TableA.Gender From TableA Inner Join TableB On TableA.Id = TableB.Id Text version of the video http://csharp-video-tutorials.blogspot.com/2015/09/intersect-operator-in-sql-server.html Slides http://csharp-video-tutorials.blogspot.com/2015/09/intersect-operator-in-sql-server_6.html All SQL Server Text Articles http://csharp-video-tutorials.blogspot.com/p/free-sql-server-video-tutorials-for.html All SQL Server Slides http://csharp-video-tutorials.blogspot.com/p/sql-server.html All Dot Net and SQL Server Tutorials in English https://www.youtube.com/user/kudvenkat/playlists?view=1&sort=dd All Dot Net and SQL Server Tutorials in Arabic https://www.youtube.com/c/KudvenkatArabic/playlists

SQL: WITH Clause

06:11
In this tutorial, you'll learn will learn how to use with clause PL/SQL (Procedural Language/Structured Query Language) is Oracle Corporation's procedural extension for SQL and the Oracle relational database.
