https://dbagenesis.com/p/oracle-advanced-rman-backup-recovery RMAN has the ability to duplicate, or clone, a database from a backup or from an active database. It is possible to create a duplicate database on a remote server with the same file structure, a remote server will a different file structure or the local server with a different file structure. Cloning the database on the remote host requires two servers. Both servers should have Oracle Software installed on them.

The video speaks about database recovery using RMAN when we have loss of all the data files. First we take DB FULL backup using RMAN and then simulate error by manually deleting all the data files. Later we recover the data base with RMAN backup taken earlier.

How to restore and recover a differential incremental Oracle database backup

Recently i took RMAN sessions to some group of people and as a part of it i explained various scenarios of rman restore and recovery operation. I tried to record the video for the purpose of the people who follow my blog. In this present session we will see various recovery scenarios mentioned below. 1) Complete database restore and recovery 2) Loss of System Datafile 3) Non-System datafile ( closed and Open ) 4) Restoring a tablespace ( closed and Open ) 5) Restoring a datafile if no backups 6) Restoring a datafile to different location 7) Restoring controlfile 8) restoring spfile 9) Restoring online redologs 10) Restoring temporary datafiles 11) Incomplete Recovery ( time based , Change based and SCN based ) 12) Recovering archived logs The following video demo gives you detailed explanation of each scenario and how to restore and recover under different scenarios. Setup: ===== Let me explain you the environment used for this practice. I am using a database with ORACLE_SID=orcl as my database for testing all the different scenarios mentioned above. I am using a recovery catalog for my rman configuration and its details are ORACLE_SID=rmandb and schema used for rman catalog data is rman and the tns alias to connect to catalog database is rmandb. I have both my databases orcl and rmandb in archive log mode and i also have backup for my database orcl. For all my restore and recover operations i am using the following syntax to connect to target database and catalog database. rman target / catalog rman/*******@rmandb

Database point-in-time recovery (DBPITR) restores the database from backups prior to the target time for recovery, then uses incremental backups and redo to roll the database forward to the target time. DBPITR is sometimes called incomplete recovery because it does not use all of the available redo or completely recover all changes to your database. The target SCN can be specified using a date and time, in which case the operation is sometimes called time-based recovery. https://dbagenesis.com/p/oracle-advanced-rman-backup-recovery

Although there are several other methods to achieve this, this is just one of those methods. This can be done differently based on the setup of your environments, such as your backup methods, location files / file system etc. This can be helpful in case where there is a need for QA/DEV environments to be refreshed with PROD data. We designed DBA Genesis as a simple to use yet powerful online Oracle learning system for students. Each of our courses is taught by an expert instructor, and every course is available on demand. RMAN provides you flexibility to take full database backups and incremental backups. With the incremental backups, you only take backup of changed blocks. This results in saving the disk space. While taking first incremental backup, it will be count as level 0 incremental backup, which is same in content to RMAN full backup and takes backup of all blocks in the database. Level 1 incremental backup takes backup of only those blocks who modified after earlier incremental backup.

https://dbagenesis.com/p/oracle-advanced-rman-backup-recovery Recovery Manager (RMAN) automatic TSPITR enables you to quickly recover one or more tablespaces in a database to an earlier time without affecting the rest of the tablespaces and objects in the database. RMAN TSPITR is most useful for the following situations: 1. You want to recover a logical database to a point different from the rest of the physical database, when multiple logical databases exist in separate tablespaces of one physical database. For example, you maintain logical databases in the orders and personnel tablespaces. An incorrect batch job or DML statement corrupts the data in only one of the tablespaces. 2. You want to recover data lost after DDL operations that change the structure of tables. You cannot use Flashback Table to rewind a table to before the point of a structural change such as a truncate table operation. 3. You want to recover a table after it has been dropped with the PURGE option. 4. You want to recover from the logical corruption of a table. You can also use Flashback Database to rewind data, but you must rewind the entire database rather than just a subset. Also, unlike TSPITR, the Flashback Database feature necessitates the overhead of maintaining flashback logs. The point in time to which you can flash back the database is more limited than the TSPITR window, which extends back to your earliest recoverable backup.

When you don't know the date and time to which you want to recover the database, SCN-based incomplete recovery could be taken into consideration especially if you are able to retrieve a particular SCN. In this scenario I will perform a SCN-based incomplete recovery after I have used the Oracle LogMiner utility to retrieve a useful SCN where to stop my recovery process. A complete description could be found here: http://dbaworkshop.blogspot.it/2013/05/How-to-perform-a-SCN-based-incomplete-recovery.html

This video gives a quick demonstration of the table point in time (PITR) in Oracle Database 12c. Note. In this case it would be easier to do a flashback query to get the data as it was, but I'm using this simple example to demonstrate this functionality. About Recovery Manager(RMAN): Recovery Manager is an oracle utility (with graphic and command-line interface) that can backup, restore, and recover database files. It is a feature of the Oracle database server and does not require separate installation. RMAN is the component of the Oracle database that is used to perform backup and recovery operations. It can make consistent and inconsistent backups, perform incremental and full backups, and back up either the whole database or a portion of it. RMAN uses its own powerful job control and scripting language, as well as a published API that interfaces RMAN with many popular backup software solutions. RMAN can store backups on the disk for quick recovery or place them on the tape for long-term storage. For RMAN to store backups on the tape, you must either use Oracle Secure Backup or configure an interface to the tape device known as a Media Management Library (MML). Types Of RMAN Backup: -All data blocks within your chosen files (full or incremental level 0) -Incremental (only information that has changed since a previous backup, level 1) - Cumulative - Differential To Get more Tutorial Subscribe The Channel click here https://www.youtube.com/channel/UCQ3ea4zVCfnKBx1_7h8raGQ?sub_confirmation=1 To Get All Post Like The Facebook Page Click here https://www.facebook.com/oracledbsolutions Follow us: Facebook: https://www.facebook.com/oracledbsolutions Youtube link: https://www.youtube.com/channel/UCQ3ea4zVCfnKBx1_7h8raGQ?view_as=subscriber Facebook Group: https://www.facebook.com/groups/465557066961548 Contact us: email: [email protected] Skype: oracle26solutions Mob: 01734557080, 01627422780
