Fast in-memory transaction processing using RDMA and HTM

30:48
Authors: Xingda Wei, Jiaxin Shi, Yanzhe Chen, Rong Chen, Haibo Chen Abstract: We present DrTM, a fast in-memory transaction processing system that exploits advanced hardware features (i.e., RDMA and HTM) to improve latency and throughput by over one order of magnitude compared to state-of-the-art distributed transaction systems. The high performance of DrTM are enabled by mostly offloading concurrency control within a local machine into HTM and leveraging the strong consistency between RDMA and HTM to ensure serializability among concurrent transactions across machines. We further build an efficient hash table for DrTM by leveraging HTM and RDMA to simplify the design and notably improve the performance. We describe how DrTM supports common database features like read-only transactions and logging for durability. Evaluation using typical OLTP workloads including TPC-C and SmallBank show that DrTM scales well on a 6-node cluster and achieves over 5.52 and 138 million transactions per second for TPC-C and SmallBank Respectively. This number outperforms a state-of-the-art distributed transaction system (namely Calvin) by at least 17.9X for TPC-C. Balancing Database Storage Latency And Throughput

49:03
by Greg Smith The easiest type of benchmark to run on a database is checking its throughput: the total transactions processed during some period of time. But throughput isn't what application users care about. They want low latency. Latency and throughput have a complex dependency on each other, and you'll need a whole new type of test to balance them well. Recent advances in benchmarking tools, like the rate limit in pgbench 9.4, make it possible to analyze latency in a way that highlights this difficult to see area. The graphics and reports of the pgbench-tools package make it possible to see how tuning changes impact both latency and throughput. That that lets you test the "lore" for how best to tune your PostgreSQL server to find out what really works. Using these new tools, this talk will look at the tricky correlation between throughput and latency and how to measure each usefully in common situations. We'll look at three different storage stacks with very different latency profiles: regular disk, disk with battery-backed write cache, and SSD. We'll then look at exactly how checkpoint spikes play out on each and what you can do about them. You'll never trust a simple transactions per second count again!

We do not offer promotional or advertising services. Our content is based on our own research, analysis and personal opinion. _______________________________________ What is Grin? Grin is an open source blockchain that uses the Mimblewimble protocol to provide extra privacy. Mimblewimble is a protocol where transactions can be cryptographically verified despite hiding the amount that is being sent. To read more about Mimblewimble, refer to our article on cryptography and privacy. _______________________________________ Token Economics As of March 6, 2019, the circulating supply of Grin is 4,336,260 with a market cap of $14 million. The rate of new Grin coins being released is 60 per block, or 1 every second. This rate is likely to remain constant forever, meaning the inflation percent will decrease every year as the circulating supply grows. After 10 years, the inflation rate will fall below 10% - after 20 years, below 5%. In 25 years, Grin will have a 4% inflation rate, comparable to Bitcoin’s rate 10 years after its creation. Additionally, the Grin team has cited multiple studies to estimate that 2% or more of Grin tokens will be lost from circulation each year. _______________________________________ Strengths - Mimblewimble is a promising privacy protocol that completely shields transaction information from any third parties. It also allows for transactions to be verified while storing minimal data on the blockchain, which means Grin is a highly scalable blockchain. - Grin launched with no ICO, no pre-mine, and no allocation for the founders, which may be viewed positively in the crypto community and discourage speculators. - The open-source project is being developed by a highly competent group of developers. - The token economics of Grin are straightforward and ensure the inflation rate will decrease every year. - Even though Grin is a young project, it has already developed a decent community and exposure among the cryptocurrency space, with multiple solid exchanges (Poloniex and Bittrex) listed the coin. _______________________________________ Weaknesses - It has been seen with Bitcoin that having no true leadership can lead to long disputes over how to update the blockchain, and this could be an issue for Grin going forward. - Since there is no fundraising, Grin developers rely on donations to fund the project. If such donations eventually stop coming in, the Grin developers will have to volunteer their time to work on the project. - Grin has a lot of competition in the market as privacy coins like Zcash and Monero have a first-mover advantage, larger communities, and more widely known privacy protocols. - The future of privacy coins in general is still uncertain. There is also significant uncertainty with respect to government regulation that could make it hard for Grin to thrive. - The diluted market cap for Grin is very large right now. According to Messari, Grin is the 7th most valuable cryptocurrency using coin supply at year 2050, higher than both Monero and ZCash. _______________________________________ Disclaimer The information in this video is for educational purposes only and is not investment advice. Speedy transactions in multicore in-memory databases

27:50
Silo is a new in-memory database that achieves excellent performance and scalability on modern multicore machines. Silo was designed from the ground up to use system memory and caches efficiently. For instance, it avoids all centralized contention points, including that of centralized transaction ID assignment. Silo's key contribution is a commit protocol based on optimistic concurrency control that provides serializability while avoiding all shared-memory writes for records that were only read. Though this might seem to complicate the enforcement of a serial order, correct logging and recovery is provided by linking periodically-updated epochs with the commit protocol. Silo provides the same guarantees as any serializable database without unnecessary scalability bottlenecks or much additional latency. Silo achieves almost 700,000 transactions per second on a standard TPC-C workload mix on a 32-core machine, as well as near-linear scalability. Considered per core, this is several times higher than previously reported results. In the ACM Digital Library: http://dl.acm.org/citation.cfm?id=2522713

What’s New With NEO?

03:18
Today’s subject is NEO, a coin which saw some of the biggest gains in 2017, and the biggest losses in 2018. It’s currently trading for around eight dollars--down from nearly $135 this time last year. What’s new with NEO? [Intro] Hi, it’s Kiana Danial, CEO of InvestDiva. Before we get started, don’t forget to subscribe to the channel by clicking on the red subscribe button to get these video briefings as soon as we publish them. NEO’s been down on price action as of late, but that doesn’t mean it’s standing still. In fact, they’ve just wrapped up NEODevcon, an annual get-together of NEO-based projects and developers. These new projects include decentralized exchanges, file storage, games, and other new dApps. NEO was originally called Antshares, and it was designed as a foundation for a “smart economy” of decentralized applications. Some people call it the “Chinese Ethereum” but it might be more accurate to compare it with EOS. Instead of a large distributed network, there are seven NEO nodes who ensure consensus on the blockchain. There’s also no mining; instead, users can hold NEO to get GAS, which is used to pay for transaction fees. That means NEO has a lot of advantages. Theoretically, it can handle 10,000 transactions per second, and at current rates, it handles around 1,000. There have already been dozens of ICOs on NEO, and many dApps are already working. Despite this, its token value hasn’t been getting much love from the trading crowd. After reaching the lows of back in November 2017 at around $5 in December 2018, NEO/USD has been struggling to find that great bullish momentum to really trigger a reversal. On the daily chart, the pair has been struggling to break above a really thin Ichimoku cloud. But the future cloud is bearish and the Chiko span, one of the main Ichimoku moving averages, is still inside the previous cloud. NEO was up over 3% on Sunday so and bits of gains the week before so if the pair is able to break above the cloud in its slow and steady pace, the doors may open for it to reach the next resistance level at around $17. However, if the bulls don’t get their act together, we may see another test of the $5.54 support level before the next bullish round. Now I’d like to hear from you. Do you think NEO is cool enough to earn a spot in your crypto portfolio? Once you’ve used the red button below to subscribe to our Video Briefings, head over to the comment section and let me know. Thank you for tuning in and I’ll see you soon with more updates.

Link for all dot net and sql server video tutorial playlists http://www.youtube.com/user/kudvenkat/playlists Link for slides, code samples and text version of the video http://csharp-video-tutorials.blogspot.com/2014/05/part-1-how-to-find-nth-highest-salary_17.html This is a very common SQL Server Interview Question. There are several ways of finding the nth highest salary. By the end of this video, we will be able to answer all the following questions as well. How to find nth highest salary in SQL Server using a Sub-Query How to find nth highest salary in SQL Server using a CTE How to find the 2nd, 3rd or 15th highest salary Let's use the following Employees table for this demo Use the following script to create Employees table Create table Employees ( ID int primary key identity, FirstName nvarchar(50), LastName nvarchar(50), Gender nvarchar(50), Salary int ) GO Insert into Employees values ('Ben', 'Hoskins', 'Male', 70000) Insert into Employees values ('Mark', 'Hastings', 'Male', 60000) Insert into Employees values ('Steve', 'Pound', 'Male', 45000) Insert into Employees values ('Ben', 'Hoskins', 'Male', 70000) Insert into Employees values ('Philip', 'Hastings', 'Male', 45000) Insert into Employees values ('Mary', 'Lambeth', 'Female', 30000) Insert into Employees values ('Valarie', 'Vikings', 'Female', 35000) Insert into Employees values ('John', 'Stanmore', 'Male', 80000) GO To find the highest salary it is straight forward. We can simply use the Max() function as shown below. Select Max(Salary) from Employees To get the second highest salary use a sub query along with Max() function as shown below. Select Max(Salary) from Employees where Salary [ (Select Max(Salary) from Employees) To find nth highest salary using Sub-Query SELECT TOP 1 SALARY FROM ( SELECT DISTINCT TOP N SALARY FROM EMPLOYEES ORDER BY SALARY DESC ) RESULT ORDER BY SALARY To find nth highest salary using CTE WITH RESULT AS ( SELECT SALARY, DENSE_RANK() OVER (ORDER BY SALARY DESC) AS DENSERANK FROM EMPLOYEES ) SELECT TOP 1 SALARY FROM RESULT WHERE DENSERANK = N To find 2nd highest salary we can use any of the above queries. Simple replace N with 2. Similarly, to find 3rd highest salary, simple replace N with 3. Please Note: On many of the websites, you may have seen that, the following query can be used to get the nth highest salary. The below query will only work if there are no duplicates. WITH RESULT AS ( SELECT SALARY, ROW_NUMBER() OVER (ORDER BY SALARY DESC) AS ROWNUMBER FROM EMPLOYEES ) SELECT SALARY FROM RESULT WHERE ROWNUMBER = 3

The Case for Small Data Management

42:08
Abstract: Exabytes of data; several hundred thousand TPC-C transactions per second on a single computing core; scale-up to hundreds of cores and a dozen Terabytes of main memory; scale-out to thousands of nodes with close to Petabyte-sized main memories; and massively parallel query processing are a reality in data management. But, hold on a second: for how many users exactly? How many users do you know that really have to handle these kinds of massive datasets and extreme query workloads? On the other hand: how many users do you know that are fighting to handle relatively small datasets, say in the range of a few thousand to a few million rows per table? How come some of the most popular open source DBMS have hopelessly outdated optimizers producing inefficient query plans? How come people don’t care and love it anyway? Could it be that most of the world’s data management problems are actually quite small? How can we increase the impact of database research in areas when datasets are small? What are the typical problems? What does this mean for database research? We discuss research challenges, directions, and a concrete technical solution coined PDbF: Portable Database Files. This is an extended version of an abstract and Gong Show talk presented at CIDR 2015. Aeternity: Will We Have To Wait An “AE”Ternity?

02:57
Ethereum could be in trouble, as an important upgrade has been delayed for a last-minute security fix. That’s bad news, but it could present a big opportunity for other platforms. Today we’re going to talk about Aeternity, a smart contract platform that wants to take Ethereum’s place. But, the question is, Will We Have To Wait An “AE”Ternity for it to show signs of recovery? [INTRO] Hi, it’s Kiana Danial, CEO of InvestDiva and today I’m gonna explore whether or not Aeternity’s got what it takes to replace Ethereum. But first, I want you to look down below this video and click on the red subscribe button to SUBSCRIBE and get these updates as soon as we publish them. Awesome. Ranked 40 based on market capitalization, and up 23% on Wednesday, Aeternity uses mining, like Ethereum. But unlike Ethereum, Aeternity’s mining algorithm is extremely efficient, allowing fast thousands of transactions per second. They’ve also taken advantage of some of Ethereum’s hard lessons. Aeternity is designed for decentralized oracles, allowing programs to access data from the real world in a decentralized way. That could be a big improvement over other blockchains. Many projects are struggling to find ways to integrate real-world data. Despite all this, Aeternity’s token, AE, spent the last whole month hanging around its all-time low level. However, As Ethereum struggled to make any gains in the past couple of days, the trading crowd appear to have flocked to this wanna-be Ethereum token, which helped its price jump 23% in 24 hours. Looking at the AE/BTC daily chart, the pair has even tested the upper band of the daily Ichimoku cloud, an indicator we use to get a better understanding of the price action. With this, if AE is able to break above the cloud, it might generate enough bullish momentum to reach the next resistance level at 23% Fibonacci level which traces the downtrend that started back in June 2018. Pretty exciting stuff here and while we’re waiting (hopefully not an “ae”ternity) for AE to make its move, I’d like to hear from you. After you subscribe using the subscribe button below, head over to the comments section and tell me your forecast about Aeternity. Do you think it has what it takes to replace Ethereum? At what price point would you buy AE, and will you consider holding it long-term? I can’t wait to hear from you, and I’ll see you with more updates next time.

NuoDB Scale-Out Performance Demo

02:51
This short demo video demonstrates how the NuoDB distributed SQL database scales elastically on demand, while maintaining full ACID compliance. Download the Free NuoDB software to experience consistency: http://dev.nuodb.com/download-nuodb/request/download Transcription: NuoDB is a distributed database management system that allows you to dynamically add and remove active nodes without ever sacrificing transactional consistency. In this short video, we will demonstrate how the NuoDB database scales elastically on demand, while maintaining full ACID compliance. We are demoing an online application called “Storefront,” which uses the NuoDB database and connects to it through standard JDBC connections. Storefront simulates shoppers browsing products, adding purchases to a shopping cart, checking out, and writing product reviews. Now let’s switch to the Storefront demo screen to see how NuoDB is designed to scale dynamically - out and in - across host machines. In NuoDB, transactions are performed by in-memory processes called Transaction Engines or “TEs”. To increase database throughput add one or more TEs. If less throughput is required, you simply remove a TE. Although NuoDB operates at in-memory speeds it is a general purpose database. Similar to the transaction layer, the storage layer is designed to scale out for high-availability and redundancy. As you can see on the screen, we are running Storefront in the AWS US West datacenter at 100 concurrent users with 200 transactions per second or “TPS” -- shown also in the large graph below --- and a latency of around 20 milliseconds per transaction. As more shoppers – in our case 500 - get online, throughput will be decreasing below 170 TPS and latency will become unacceptably high. Since we want our customers to have an excellent online experience in our store, we’ll simply bring new TE’s online to handle the increased workload efficiently. To do this we will fire off 3 new TEs on separate host machines. As the TEs come online, transactions are now being distributed equally across all 4 TEs. Notice latency is rapidly decreasing while throughput is increasing in a linear fashion to around 900 TPS. (Wait) This on demand scale-out performance behavior is one of the key advantages of the NuoDB distributed architecture. Now, let’s reduce the number of concurrent users down to 200 while we continue to distribute the workload across all 4 TEs. As you can see the transactions per second decrease in lockstep with the number of concurrent users, which suggests that the database is overprovisioned. Because of NuoDB’s distributed architecture, we can stop TE processes without bringing down the database. As we cut the number of TEs to 2, you will see that the TPS and latency stay the same while using half the TE resources. This proves that the database was overprovisioned. This elastic scalability ensures that you use only the resources you need, when you need them. What we’ve seen in this demo - in real time - is that it’s easy to add or take away Transaction Engines to ensure the best database performance at the lowest latency. Just download NuoDB today and take storefront for a spin. NYC In-Memory Computing Meetup (March 28, 2019)

01:29:04
The March 28 gathering of the NYC In-Memory Computing Meetup was held at 1740 Broadway at "Spaces" on the 15th floor. The meetup was sponsored by GridGain Systems and Oracle. Our speakers: Glenn Wiebe, Data & Processing IT Practitioner + GridGain solutions architect Doug Hood, Oracle TimesTen Scaleout evangelist Talk 1 -- Glenn: Abstract: The growth in data volume & velocity, plus the aging of IT infrastructure, along with the continual drive to do “more with less” is putting added stress on existing data sources, application development teams and the applications, tools, and clients that consume this data. IT modernization increasingly targets legacy databases, and the roadblocks they have become to deliver faster analytics, while holding more volume and more varieties of data. Modernization project are being asked to deliver effective architectures and development patterns for new applications like modern Web apps and new tools for analytic, machine & deep learning . In-Memory Computing can deliver the real-time performance that modern apps and tools expect at the massive scale of existing / expanding data sources present and do this at speed that is expected in order to drive digital transformation founded on modern analytics and tools your clients expect. Topics to be covered are: * Add speed and scale to existing applications using Relational or NoSQL databases with no rip-and-replace * Perform real-time and streaming analytics at scale, with details of how companies use Apache Ignite and Apache Spark * Address performance issues with Hadoop and "SQL" for real-time reporting * Adopt machine and deep learning, both the model training and execution, including TensorFlow Talk 2 -- Doug: Scaling trivial workloads is easy -- eg 38 million YCSB B ops/sec or 1.4 Billion SQL queries per seconds -- but what if your workload is not trivial? This talk will cover a customer use case for how to scale with: * Five table joins where the data is distributed -- hashed -- over many machines * ACID Transactions where the unit of work has seven updates and seven queries * The database must be highly available and 'just work' * A performance comparison with other well know distributed databases (http://bit.ly/OracleTimesTenScaleout)

Binance is one of the world’s largest cryptocurrency exchanges. It processes 1.4 million transactions per second and about $1.5 billion in volume daily. That’s why it’s recent announcement to launch a decentralized exchange in the coming months is such big news. The new exchange will be for people who value anonymity and security more than speed and liquidity. In today’s must-see 3-Minute Market Minder, Palm Beach Confidential editor and world-renowned cryptocurrency expert Teeka Tiwari explains why Binance’s announcement is a game-changer.
Simplified and Fast Fraud Detection With Just SQL

41:12
This session will demonstrate how using sql pattern matching techniques can speed up searching for fraudulent events within a dataset when compared to using other programming languages. As part of the presentation, live demos will be used to review a series of uses cases and provide conceptual simplified SQL to solve these business requirements. These examples are taken from real-life requirements from customers in the financial services, retail, life sciences and telecommunications industries, although the scenarios are also applicable across many other industries. A simple four step framework will be used to construct pattern matching queries. A live demonstration will show how easy it is to write and amend SQL-based pattern matching queries compared with other pattern matching languages. Brian Bulkowski Velocity NY 2014 Keynote: "NoSQL Key Value Stores..."

11:02
From the 2014 Velocity Conference in New York, Brian Bulkowski's keynote address, "NoSQL Key Value Stores - The Key to Velocity". Watch our interview with Brian: http://goo.gl/f1qc7F The growth in interactive Internet and mobile applications is driving a new data challenge—velocity—where real-time responses are based on insights extracted from volumes of big data. In this 10-minute talk, Brian Bulkowski, Aerospike founder & CTO, will list reasons why in-memory and a new generation of distributed databases, NoSQL key-value stores, are the killer data solution for achieving velocity within every enterprise. He will look at the democratizing effect of open source in-memory NoSQL key-value stores that can achieve 1 million transactions per second, whether running on a single $5,000 server or on a single Amazon instance at a cost of $1.68 per hour. Additionally, he will share real-world examples of companies using these data technologies to scale from startups to industry leaders, including AppNexus, which was founded in 2007, recently earned a $1.2 billion valuation, and now manages 90 billion ad impressions per day. This keynote is sponsored by Aerospike About Brian Bulkowski (Aerospike): Brian has 20-plus years experience designing, developing and tuning networking systems and high-performance Web-scale infrastructures. His career includes pioneering technical roles at Novell, Liberate and Aggregate Knowledge (now Neustar). He founded Aerospike after learning first hand, the scaling limitations of sharded MySQL systems and saw the need for a high performance database that would empower all developers, not just those at Internet giants that could afford to build their own. Brian has a B.S. degree in Mathematics and Computer Science from Brown University. Fantom aims to be the world’s first Directed Acrylic Graph (DAG) based smart contract platform. We do not offer promotional or advertising services. Our content is based on our own research, analysis and personal opinion. _______________________________________ What does the company/project do? Fantom aims to be the world’s first Directed Acrylic Graph (DAG) based smart contract platform that solves the issue of scalability and confirmation time of the existing blockchain technology. The goal is to provide secure and fast transactions (300,000 transactions per second) via an open-source and permissionless platform. The project aims to improve on newer blockchain platforms that are also DAG-based such as IOTA, Nano, Byteball, and Hedero Hashgraph. These platforms improve on current blockchain scalability as nodes are designed to process transactions asynchronously. Because each transaction is linked to another and there are no miners in the system, as more nodes participate in the network, the number of transactions processed per second increases. Fantom differentiates itself by incorporating smart contract dApp infrastructure into a DAG-based platform so that it offers instant payment, near zero cost (transaction fees will be under $0.01 from one wallet to another), and infinite processing scalability. _______________________________________ What are the tokens used for and how can token holders make money? FTM tokens will be used in various ways: - To enable low-cost transactions to proceed and to pay for transaction fees. - Enable access to the platform across various FANTOM applications and smart contract variations. - Incentivize network participants. The platform will initially have a 5% annual inflation rate that decreases as more users join the network. 20% of the total inflation will be used to reward nodes and the rest will be used to incentivize platform users (e.g. near zero fees), and to reward users for contributing to the ecosystem. The demand for FTM tokens should increase as more users join the network and more transactions being made on the network. _______________________________________ Opportunities - The closest competitor of Fantom is Hedera Hashgraph but Hashgraph is raising $300 million for 5% of total tokens. If Fantom is able to execute on its vision (smart contract on a scalable DAG platform), the potential is huge. - The team is business-minded and has built companies with large user bases before. We believe that one of the main metrics to determine the success of a blockchain is usage. The team has a strong background in food tech and has already partnered with South Korea Food Tech Association, but this is just one of the use cases that Fantom has planned. _______________________________________ Concerns - The competition among next-generation blockchains is fierce. Fantom is relatively early in its development progress compared to some of its competitors. The mainnet launch is currently scheduled for 2019 Q3, which is over a year away from the ICO. By that time, there will be a lot more competition in place, many with the goal of solving the issue of blockchain scalability. - The team is mostly based out of South Korea. South Korea is going to be the initial target market for Fantom and we are unsure if the team would be able to expand beyond the country. _______________________________________ Disclaimer The information in this video is for educational purposes only and is not investment advice. Also has been referenced as the “Chinese Ethereum". NEO is a blockchain system and cryptocurrency designed to create a scalable platform of decentralized applications or dapps. The basic quality of the NEO blockchain is the non divisible NEO coin which creates GAS coins that can be used to fund for transaction fees created by apps on the system. NEO assists a wide assortment of ordinarily used programming languages such as Java, C#, JavaScript, Python, and Go, by using a tailored version of Docker titled “NeoVM” that creates the code into a secure executable environment. The NEO projection was set originally in 2014 as “AntShares” with development resources supplied by developer Da Hongfei and Erik Zhang. They also supported Onchain to supply blockchain inquire services. NEO finally re-branded from Antshares to NEO in late June 2017. Then by March 2018, parent business Onchain apportioned 1 ONT (ontology) coin for every 5 NEO being held in a person’s wallet which will be utilized to vote on identity verification, system upgrades, and other governance problems on the NEO system. An overall of 100 million NEO were made in the “Genesis Block”. 50 million NEO were sold-out to the first investors, with the leftover 50 million NEO barred into a smart contract. Every year, 15 million NEO coins are unbarred which can be utilized by the NEO development team to use for their ultimate long term creation goals. NEO coins bring forth a slow deflationary number of GAS coins which are utilized to fund for transactions on the system. The inflation rate of GAS is harnessed with a decline half-life algorithm that will free about 100 million GAS coins over about 22 years. NEO utilizes a dBFT (delegated Byzantine Fault Tolerance) consensus method and can aid up to 10K TPS (transactions per second). To help accomplish consensus, bookkeeping nodes are at random chosen to authorize transactions on the system based overlapping networks of property in a manner almost related to “Hyperledger Fabric” and “Stellar” which apply subtlety various implementations to figure the “Byzantine General's” issue. Systems employing dBFT (delegated Byzantine Fault Tolerance) for consensus can’t fork into two different chains as the mechanism will rely on about 2/3 majority rule to function.

The NEO Smart Economy

14:05
The NEO Smart Economy is worth a second look. NEO is a China-based blockchain organization which has an interesting ecosystem. It is a cross-platform blockchain which will communicate with the Ethereum blockchain (and others) in the near future. Currently, NEO is focused on developing its development team, and user interface for its dapps. (decentralized apps) but a new trending focus on games has been underway this year. NEO has a high TPS (transaction per second) throughput which is the top two in my opinion. (EOS being #1 arguably) NEO is also proof of stake which uses its GAS NEP Token which is pretty awesome for investors. The dapps are beautiful too! NEO takes UI (user interface) very seriously and it shows in there products. ------------------------------------------------------------------------------ Helpful Links Website https://neo.org/ Twitter https://twitter.com/neo_blockchain Medium https://medium.com/neo-smart-economy Github https://github.com/neo-project Reddit https://www.reddit.com/r/NEO/ Dapps list http://ndapp.org/ --------------------------------------------------------------- Help Support this channel BTC 1NgeqKmELQDbnirEkKvNH6ntGokC5EaT2F ETH 0x94c677110B22A5263413B6DDFfaCD2d06f2A6100 NEO AYHLASWUuKJ7TJAuKJGUmmgmR3JwRLyDtc

Using NIFI to simplify data flow & streaming use cases @ Mastercard

34:36
In Mastercard we deal with data movement and transformation issues all the time. Having a data workflow which is multi-tenant, fast , scalable, reliable and easy to use is very important. Apart from moving data , it is also important to process it in real time and take decisions. Our goal is to provide a solution to our internal teams to ingest flat files or auth streams, do transformations and enrichment , power dashboards, detect anomalies ,feed machine learning models and then take complex decisions. Ability to process huge files with varied frequencies as well as streams of thousands transactions per second is must. Teams could use a common service and focus on business problem rather than fixing data flow and management issues. A data workflow coupled with a stream processing engine could solve many of our problems. We are evaluating Apache NIFI along with SAM and adding customization to solve specific use cases. We would talk about all that in this presentation. Speaker VISHAL ANAND Senior Consultant Mastercard

Crypto-Light Chain, the world's first double layer blockchain on Nasdaq's big screen

04:15
Light Chain, the world's first double layer blockchain on Nasdaq's big screen The Big Screen on the tower of NASDAQ Stock Exchange in Times Square is often seen as a symbol of success and wealth. With the strong landing in the Big Screen of Nasdaq of New York, LightChain presented the digital encryption currency to more people and spread the excellent technology concept of Blockchain to the world while presenting its influence as a representative pioneer in innovation of Blockchain and leading the development trend of the digital currencies. As a landmark Blockchain, LightChain adopts the world's first double-layer chain architecture, which not only maintains the core function of the Blockchain as a super account, namely records cannot be tampered with and destroyed, and simultaneously realizes the processing speed of 100,000 transaction requests per second. In addition, the transaction processing time is as close to zero as it can get. It means that the Blockchain formally entered the "millisecond transaction" era with the emergence of the LightChain. In 2008, Bitcoin pioneered the centripetal cryptocurrency and also became the most important and successful application of Blockchain 1.0. With a set of Turing complete scripting languages, Ethereum Virtual Machine code, which is referred to as EVM, in several years afterwards, Etherum provides a complete solution of smart contracts to solve the traditional disputes through automation, which also marks the official opening of the Era of Blockchain 2.0. But neither the Blockchain network of Bitcoin nor the Blockchain 2.0 network established by Ethereum can solve the problem existing in low industry performance and TPS of the Blockchain (transaction per second, i.e., the speed of processing requests). Presently, the transaction time of Bitcoin is about 1 hour while the transaction time of Ethereum is between 5 and 10 minutes. However, the transaction speed in the ecologies of LightChain is close to zero, which is the highest speed currently reached for transaction speed. The prominent innovation of LightChain is characterized by the world's first epoch-making architecture of "double-layer Blockchain". The double-layer chain of LightChain constitutes only one parent chain and one or more sub-chains independent from each other and the number of sub-chains can be arbitrarily expanded. Similar to the traditional public chain, the parent chain ensures that records cannot be tampered with or destroyed and are transparent to the public. Based on the Proof of Machine (PoM) validation method, together with the In-Memory database cache, the sub-chain can effectively improve cache throughput and improve performance to 100,000 QPS (Query Per Second). Sub-chain transaction records are periodically synchronized with the parent chain. The synchronization process operates in batches through batch updates to ensure the integrity of the parent chain transaction records. Based on the above technological innovations, the LightChain truly achieves the transaction processing speed effectively under the premise of ensuring that the record can not be tampered with and destroyed. The transaction processing speed based on the LightChain system has reached the theoretical maximum currently. Ten years ago, the advent of Bitcoin enabled people to see the value of virtual currency in the area of Blockchain. Later, the improvements of Ethereum made Blockchain technology move toward the development of the bottom-level applications. Nowadays, the LightChain will further promote the applications and development of the Blockchain technologies in all industries and make large-scale and efficient circulation and application virtual currencies in the economic and social society of human beings possible. As was presented on the Big Screen of Nasdaq this time: let there be light and hope the Blockchain can benefit everyone. Korea Blockchain Week: Decentralising the Retail & Payments Industry

52:30
Blockchain and Peer 2 Peer (P2P) services are decentralising the retail and payments industry. Taking out the “middlemen” allows merchants to accept cryptocurrency and users to take back control of their finance. Festy allows merchants to accept crypto and users to pay with their cryptocurrency in bars, shops and festivals. NewsyStock, a P2P platform enables retail investors to expect a high return on their investment by taking control of their speculation. Comma Ventures invests in blockchain projects and has experience working with leading global retailers like Walmart on technology and data strategy. How is Festy and NewsyStock disrupting the retail business models? 7.00pm Intro by HuiChi Man, Project Director, Provenance Events - thanks to sponsors, introduction to speakers 7.10pm Graham de Barra, CEO, Festy Presentation: "The Future of Payments in the Retail and Entertainment Industries" Payments today are centralised around card issuers and banks which slows innovation. Transactional data from traditional Point of Sale terminals is currently lacking for merchants. Consumers have no control over their own data for card payments. The Festy platform allows for the issuance of cards and customised Point of Sale system with plugins to your favourite apps. As a closed-end system Festy is independent from intermediaries. Festy offers merchants and festivals deep insights over their data, more control and more choice. 7.30pm Luke Xie, General Partner, Comma Ventures & Rocketfuel Presentation: "The Path to Mass-Scale Adoption of Blockchain by Retailers" Walmart processes 5,000 transactions per second (TPS) in sales on average. Bitcoin is currently around 7 TPS maximum, and Ethereum is around 15 TPS. Scalability is one of several issues today that prevents mass-scale adoption of blockchain and cryptocurrency in retail. How far are we in solving these issues and being able to pay with cryptocurrency? How do global retailers and enterprise view and adopt blockchain and cryptocurrency? 7.50pm Ryan Kyungrok Moon, Co-CEO, Newsystock & WeWork Labs Manager Presentation: "Decentralising Retail Investments with P2P Algorithm Platform" Traditionally, retail investors are piling into risk assets and equity rather than traditional savings options and small savings schemes. When it comes to decentralisation of a traditional industry, many people think of using blockchain technology. However, decentralisation can mean peer-to-peer networks. NewsyStock enables retail investors to be interconnected via the internet and working with retail giants to help build this P2P network. 8.10pm Q&A 8.30pm Networking & Finish Join our new Telegram group for the community :) https://t.me/provenancevents

Brian Bulkowski | Strata Data Conference 2013

16:43
Brian Bulkowski is the founder and CEO of Aerospike. Bulkowski joins Wikibon's Dave Vellante and SiliconAngle's John Furrier inside theCUBE at Strata Conference 2013. One of the more interesting interviews from last month's Strata event, for me personally, was when Brian Bulkowski, CTO of Aerospike joined theCube hosts John Furrier and Dave Vellante to talk Flash. In-Memory databases are here to stay, even filling into its own market. In the interview, Bulkowski discusses how software-led is the next maturation of a lot of cloud technologies. The flash layer of in-memory is booming right now. The biggest change in flash and SSD that Aerospike is seeing with its customers in the last 6 months is price and density. On the density side, its largest customers are doubling, sometimes quadrupling the size of each and every node. 500gb of flash per node, are now becoming 1-4 terabyte architectures. Going from 40 node clusters to 4 node clusters. Big advertising use cases pushing Big Real Time Data (BRTD). And price? $1-$1.50 per gigabyte compared to $30 per gigabyte of RAM. That's a 30x price performance difference. Additionally exciting for flash is that it doesn't have to be slower anymore. Before, at 10,000 transactions per second per sever flash was the bottleneck. Now, at 100,000-200,000 transactions per second per server network is back to being the bottleneck. In the last few months, flash has blown past that. The outcome? If you have in-memory and SSD, you might as well use flash. The memory is going to be the bottleneck in either case. Why not save yourself money to the tune of a factor of 30? SQL shows promise for real-time . Aerospike is a firm believer in real-time no SQL, too. Bulkowski said that they have a lot of use cases for real-time. Threat detection, insights, patterns, and signatures are all front-side. In the past, you had to have extraordinarily fast key value stores. Nowadays, with NoSQL you can map reduce over more data. This is huge for transactional — network threat detection is faster and equally big for gaming — matchmaking for opponents in game. 5oo milliseconds doesn't leave a lot of time to run analytics and match algorithms in the 'right now'. Real-time is replacing batch jobs in these instances. Software is helping push the real-time ball down the field, and software-led infrastructures and architectures are all about flexibility. Bulkowski sees it as the next step in maturation of a lot of the cloud technologies. What does that mean? "Database company like us flexibly and elastically at capacity," — nimble is the name of the game for Aerospike. Mixing and matching of softwares/technologies is only a good thing for the customer too. Database as a service opportunity anyone? For the customers it means a more real-time response to different business conditions. Software-led means new and improved productivity with certain impact on the organization. Aerospike believes that flash will continue to play a vital role in those improvements. Look out for user-defined functions (customizing your database) from Aerospike in 2013. With its gaming and online matchmaking clients, Aerospike aims to bring user-defined functions into the world of flash and SSD. Oh yea, and metadata is no longer under lock and key.
Altibase Introduction

01:26
Altibase matches Oracle function for function and easily outperforms Oracle TimesTen - with one big exception: Altibase is now open source. For nearly 20 years, Altibase has served over 600 enterprise clients, including 8 Fortune Global 500 companies. More than 135 enterprises have chosen Altibase over Oracle or switched to Altibase from Oracle. And over 35 companies have picked Altibase over Oracle TimesTen. Altibase also plays well with Oracle – when Altibase works as a frontend database for your Oracle system. By using Altibase’s in-memory capabilities in tandem with Oracle, enterprises increase performance while reducing TCO. Even though Altibase is now open source, you still get the all of Atlibase’s state-of-the-art technologies including: 1. All-in-One Hybrid. In 2005, Altibase was the first company in the world to develop and commercialize a hybrid database. That means data can be stored and manipulated in main memory alone, on physical disk alone, or on a combination of both. All in one unified engine - no need to purchase an in-memory database and a disk-resident database separately. 2. In-Memory Capability. Altibase has handled use cases demanding hundreds of thousands of transactions per second with response times measured in microseconds. That is why Altibase has been the choice of many mega telecom, finance and manufacturing companies around the world, particularly in the OLTP space. 3. Sharding. With Altibase state-of-the-art sharding technology, you can add as many servers as you need with minimal coordinator-related performance degradation. That is because Altibase is designed to super-minimize the use of coordinators. No matter how many servers are added, linear performance enhancement can be maintained. And, unlike other relational databases, Altibase dispenses with the need to make any changes to existing applications when you system runs on relational databases. (Video Link) After nearly 20 years’ serving clients as an enterprise grade, closed source database solution, Altibase is now open source. Download (Link) today to discover why so many major enterprises around the world have selected Altibase. Altibase - Downloading is Believing.

Building the Blockchain Ecosystem

01:38:46
Come join Lawrence Lerner and other blockchain professionals to learn what’s practical for the technology in 18 months. Many pundits treat blockchain like internet bacon. Not everything is better with it. What is really practical within the industry? How can we continue to grow a successful and thriving ecosystem in the next 18 months? Lot of people talk about the “big” things that blockchain could do or have very aspirational discussions. This panel discussion brings to ground level ways to make this very tangible right here in Washington and in next 18 months. From funding and regulatory issues to the tangible technology rollouts... What’s practical today?? This potentially becomes a model to be expanded to other cities and larger conversations. Money is flowing ($200M+ here alone) but what are the foundational things that need to happen in the market (regulatory, maturity in business models, participation from businesses) to help create that thriving ecosystem? What’s happening from a regulatory standpoint? How is funding done and what are fundamental differences in the blockchain industry that are driving this change? What makes a solid business model for blockchain businesses? Picks and Shovels vs. Industry solutions - Which drives adoption faster? Scaling write-heavy OLTP systems with strong data guarantees - Gokulvanan V Velan

49:25
Order capture and Order management systems at Flipkart have had to scale by 10X volumes to cater to growth in eCommerce and user base.In addition, these systems need to scale for bursty traffic by 1000x for flash sale business model. These systems are write heavy and need strong data guarantees (Consistency, Data-availability, Durability etc). With scale, the data stores for these systems have outgrown capabilities provided out of the box by databases like MySQL and point solutions for each system in the ecosystem have resulted in fragmentation. This talk focuses on our journey in solving for our datastore needs holistically by customising Hbase at the source code level to support Strong Consistency in Write Heavy workloads, Transactional Change Propagation to enable Lamdba Architecture patterns, Basic index support and provide predictable Scalability using Tenant isolation. This talk will dive into details by introducing concept of regionserver groups (rsgroups) within an hbase cluster, tweaks to balancing algorithms in region rebalancing within rsgroup, ensuring no data loss in change propagation and mvcc style approach to support basic indexes over distributed transaction. We currently are live in production with a single multi-tenant hbase cluster that servers half a million QPS in Order capture and Order management flows. Gokulvanan is an Architect for Order capture and Order management systems at Flipkart. Prior to Flipkart he worked as Senior Software Engineer for the Mobile team at a media advertising startup, Komli Media. He has close to 10yrs of experience working in Software Industry.
