"To This Day" ... for the bullied and beautiful | Shane Koyczan
By turn hilarious and haunting, poet Shane Koyczan puts his finger on the pulse of what it's like to be young and ... different. "To This Day," his spoken-word poem about bullying, captivated millions as a viral video (created, crowd-source style, by 80 animators). Here, he gives a glorious, live reprise with backstory and violin accompaniment by Hannah Epperson. None of this would be possible without the participation of the following people and organizations: Animators: Ryan Kothe, Mike Healey, Will Fortanbary, Brian San, Diego De la Rocha, Gizelle Manalo, Adam Plouff, Mike Wolfram, Hyun Min Bae, Oliver Sin, Seth Eckert, Viraj Ajmeri, Vishnu Ganti, Yun Wang, Boris Wilmot, Cameron Spencer, DeAndria Mackey, Matt Choi, Reimo Õun, Samantha Bjalek, Eli Treviño, Ariel Costa, Caleb Coppock, James Mabery, Samir Hamiche, Waref Abu Quba, Deo Mareza and Clara, Josh Parker, Scott Cannon, Thomas McKeen, Kaine Asika, Marcel Krumbiegel, Teresa del Pozo, Eric Paoli Infanzón, Maxwell Hathaway, Rebecca Berdel, Zach Ogilvie, Anand Mistry, Chase Ogden, Dominik Grejc, Gideon Prins, Lucy Chen, Mercedes Testa, Rickard Bengtsson, Stina Seppel, Daniel Göttling, Julio C. Joseph Merrick - A Poem for him, ''From Her You May Have Loved''
A Romantic Poem, For A Man whose heart was full of romantic dreams.Audio only. ''For love's sake, a rose I give thee. For love's hope, the promise of a kiss. For all that you are, a tender wish To be with you beyond the Light, Drawn close within your cloak, Comforted by it's warmth and night. For love's sake, I hold you dear. For love's hope, to caress your lovely face. For all you mean to me, are feelings That I would have offered you; My heart and soul if it could be, That you would be alone no more. For love's sake, your delicate hand in mine. For love's hope, your words of the Devine. For all that you brought into this World, And my desire that I could have loved you, To have given you all that you deserved: In mystery to share joy in a dappled glade. For love's sake, I accept your gentle touch. For love's hope, your embrace is forever. For all that you are, I am overwhelmed. Yet, no tears shall fall; neither yours nor mine. Beautiful in dreams of present and past, Your eyes send me to that place of love fulfilled.''

Wendy Pretend Play with ICE CREAM Drive Thru Toy Store
Wendy pretend plays with her ice cream drive thru toy store! She is selling all kinds of different ice cream toys. Auntie arrives and orders a banana split with extra toppings. The baby doll also wants some ice cream and Auntie orders more. Uncle John has a hotdog store, but he has no customers! He has an idea to make an ice cream store to compete with Wendy! Auntie runs over to Uncle John’s ice cream cart store to buy some ice cream. Oh no! Uncle John doesn’t have any ice cream toys, but he only has the cones. So, he puts in hotdogs instead of ice cream and serves it to Auntie. Auntie didn’t like the hotdog ice cream, so she goes back to Wendy’s store and buys a popsicle toy. Uncle John is super sad that nobody is buying his ice cream. Wendy tells him he needs ice cream instead of hotdogs in his ice cream cone. She takes him to the toy store and they buy some ice cream toys. They go back and Wendy shows him how to make some ice cream and goes back to her store. Uncle John made a the ice cream cone wrong for Auntie and Wendy hires him to make ice cream at her shop to train him.

How learning German taught me the link between maths and poetry | Harry Baker | TEDxVienna
In mathematics there are right answers. In poetry there are no wrong ones. Find out how learning a foreign language, especially one that can be as beautifully logical as German, taught World Slam Poetry Slam Champion Harry Baker the two were a lot more linked than he realised. More information on http://www.tedxvienna.at Poet and Mathematician Harry Baker has always had a love of language, and his work has taken him around the world and exposed him to many voices and languages used to express those voices. Living in Germany was no different! This talk was given at a TEDx event using the TED conference format but independently organized by a local community. Learn more at http://ted.com/tedx

Sept. 12, 2018 | Bob Boilen -- Hobo Johnson and the Lovemakers accomplished something remarkable this year with their Tiny Desk Contest entry. They made a simple backyard video - a single camera shoot - that's now been seen almost 10 million times on YouTube. And the song they played, "Peach Scone," has unlocked a door to a dream - to play a Tiny Desk Concert and be heard. The song is a tale of one-sided love - a tale of kindness in the face of loneliness and depression. Now, "a couple of kids - five I guess" as its lyrics go, get to bring their creative, urgent and somewhat nervous energy from Sacramento, Calif. to play "Peach Scone" and more to millions of other listeners. This is a band always on the verge of emotional explosions, all while Frank Lopes, aka Hobo Johnson, is quoting Shakespeare and making references to Jay-Z, The Front Bottoms song "Twin Size Mattress" and so much more. The directness in their music, with its chorus shouts ("Damn I love those sandwiches!") and the little asides ("I got a duvet the other day - how do you wash a blanket? In a washer? That's what I found out") make for a remarkably personal performance. At times it's as much a storytelling session or personal confession than a musical performance, and for me it conjures feelings of empathy and understanding and compassion. Set List "Romeo & Juliet" "Sex in the City" "Peach Scone" "Creve Coeur 1" Credits Producers: Bob Boilen, Morgan Noelle Smith; Creative Director: Bob Boilen; Audio Engineer: Josh Rogosin; Videographers: Morgan Noelle Smith, Bronson Arcuri, CJ Riculan; Editor: Production Assistant: Ema Sagner; Photo: John Poole

Avant 17: Langston Hughes - The Dream Keeper | Weary Blues
Eric Mingus, voice David Amram, piano Larry Simon, guitar, music director with Groove Bacteria: Don Davis, alto saxes, clarinets Catherine Sikora, soprano sax Cynthia Chatis, Native American flute, flute Scip Gallant, Hammond organ Chris Stambaugh, bass Mike Barron, drums Shawn Russell, percussion Frank Laurino, percussion Langston Hughes (1902–67) was an American poet, novelist, social activist and playwright whose work showcased the dignity and beauty in ordinary black life. His African-American themes made him a primary contributor to the Harlem Renaissance of the 1920s. The hours he spent in Harlem clubs affected his work, making him one of the innovators of “Jazz/Poetry.” Hughes’ poetry is still powerful, relevant and contemporary today. The Langston Hughes Project came from jazz guitarist Larry Simon, who is the founder of JazzMouth, a unique festival in Portsmouth, New Hampshire that combines jazz and spontaneous music with readings by some of the finest poets. Half of the poems are duos with Mingus and Amram. The instrumentally varied balance of the album are Mingus duos with electric guitar or Hammond organ; with woodwinds and percussion or with larger ensembles. Hughes’ texts are brought to life by the rich, soulful delivery of Eric Mingus — son of Charles Mingus. For some years he worked as a session musician and backing singer, playing on dates with artists such as Carla Bley, Bobby McFerrin and Karen Mantler. He has also performed with the Mingus Big Band, Elliott Sharp’s Terraplane, Todd Rundgren, Elvis Costello, Nick Cave, Catherine Sikora and Levon Helm, and a featured performer in many of Hal Willner’s projects. Simon also brought David Amram — composer, conductor, multi-instrumentalist, and author — to the project. As a classical composer and performer, his integration of jazz, folk and world music led him to work with Dizzy Gillespie, Lionel Hampton, Willie Nelson, Charles Mingus, Levon Helm and Betty Carter. Amram has composed more than 100 orchestral and chamber music works, and written many scores for Broadway theater and film, including the classic scores for the films Splendor in The Grass and The Manchurian Candidate. Amram collaborated with Hughes on his cantata Let us Remember, premiered at the San Francisco Opera in 1965. Importantly, Amram gave the first ever public jazz/poetry readings in NYC in 1957-58 with Jack Kerouac, the spontaneous creation of words and music which came to be known as “jazz/poetry.” And jazz/poetry is what “Langston Hughes: The Dream Keeper” is.

Dream Streets Radio Show Presents Poems of Jean-Henri Sadot (WVUD 2003)
This video was created from a 2003 Dream Streets Radio Show audio track. This particular Dreamstreets show was aired on July 28, 2003 in Newark, DE on WVUD, the Voice of the University of Delaware. The 8 poems on this video are: Iron Hill, Early Roses of 1940, White Clay Creek, The Statue of Liberty; Summertime Sunset; Blizzard; Little Girl’s Bedtime; and The Moods of the Sea. Vic Sadot, son of the poet, is reading Jean-Henri Sadot poems, or sharing renderings of them into song as he relates the history behind the poems of Jean-Henri Sadot. Steven Leech is the Host of Dream Streets Radio Show on WVUD in Newark, DE. (Note: Pardon us for misspelling our radio host's name as “Leach” in the first post of this video. This one is the "Director’s Final Edit".) “Even Steven” was one of the founders of a poetry publication that gave a platform for hundreds of writers to be heard and managed to produce regular releases of Dream Streets for decades. See History of Dream Streets in www.dreamstreetsarchive.com SYNOPSIS: Introduction & discussion of Jean-Henri Sadot’s childhood in Normandy, just across from England; his involvement starting at age 20 in WWII as a French soldier, Resistance camp participant in the Pyrennes Mountains on the Spanish border, and his escape from Nazi occupied France on a battleship running out of Toulon harbor that went to North Africa and then to Brooklyn Navy Yard in New York City for retooling for warfare in the invasion of Provence in 1944. He participated in the retaking of Toulon, the same harbor he escaped from just before Admiral deLaborde ordered the scuttling of the French Fleet to keep it from being used by the Nazis and the Vichy collaboration government. Jean Sadot’s poems carry themes and perspectives on history and nature often grounded in local places or very personal experiences. He worked on the Chrysler assembly line and attended classes at the University of Delaware while raising 5 children with his wife Eleanor Lafferty, who grew up on a farm in Landenberg, PA and graduated from Kennett Square High School before serving in New York City as a US Navy “Wave” office worker during WWII. They met in a Broadway Cafe and wrote letters until reuniting after the war. There is a discussion of strained French-American relations in 2003 due to the new invasion and occupation of Iraq by the US and UK under G W Bush and Tony Blair. The French and Germans were very much against this war. G W Bush and Dick Cheney and the NeoCons had lied to make war and profited from it with their fellow “Masters of War”. In 2003 the US and UK were not supported in the military and cultural destruction of Iraq. Most of the NATO nations, and notably France and Germany, were against the invasion of Iraq as they were doing business there, as were many American businesses. Public remarks in the media by President G. W. Bush aggravated the disagreement and tensions as Bush comments compared the 60th Anniversary of the D-Day Landing in Normandy, France to his 2003 invasion and occupation of Iraq as comparable to the 1944 “liberation” of France and other European countries under Nazi occupation. Vic had just returned from playing at the Fête de Musique in Carentan, Normandy, France, his father Jean-Henri Sadot's home town. Vic has a little story to tell about cousin Gilbert Sadot getting a call in the evening from the Carentan mayor inviting him, and his visiting American and other French cousins to meet with the mayor and the town's cultural minister for champagne at the Hotel de Ville. They brought up the subject of "Freedom fries" and strained US-French relations over the G. W. Bush - Cheney regime US-UK invasion and occupation of Iraq.

The Poetry of John Berryman (1970) 3/6
I ripped this straight from the only existing videotape copy of this astonishing and historically crucial interview. It needs to be shared with the world, not only those with high-end WorldCat accounts. Let the chips fall where they may. This interview took place on October 8, 1970. Fifteen months later, on January 7, 1972, John Berryman committed suicide by jumping from the Washington Avenue Bridge in Minneapolis, Minnesota. He was 57. In this interview, as on the page, Berryman is bristling with life. ................................................................................. THE POETRY OF JOHN BERRYMAN (1970) Brockport Writers Forum (State University of New York College at Brockport) Interviewers: William Heyen & Jerome Mazzaro Produced & Directed for Television by Francis R. Filardo ................................................................................ From John Haffenden's THE LIFE OF JOHN BERRYMAN (1982): "In October, shortly after beginning another slip [from sobriety], Berryman flew to give a reading and be interviewed on videotape at the State University of New York at Brockport. William Heyen, director of the Brockport Writers Forum, who was his host for a visit lasting two days, found himself awed and agitated by Berryman, whose arrival late on Wednesday 7 October had been preceded by erratic and inconsequential phone calls and travel delays. Immediately after the visit, Heyen took copious notes from having 'felt a sense of history in his presence': **Beard trimmed, hair not as wild, or high....Charming, disputatious, dominating, brilliant....'I won that round' after destroying someone trying to be friendly. He had a bad foot, pinched or displaced nerve. Went shoeless....In my easy chair Friday morning, stretched out straight, he seemed unreal, his clothes much too big for him, or so it seemed, as though there were nothing under his clothes. And before the reading he came out of the bathroom shirtless, all bone....We did get him to eat: a cup of chicken soup Wed. night; a ham & cheese sandwich Th. noon; a decent dinner Thurs. night. Constant bourbon, water, no ice. 'Mr. Heyen, I'm an alcoholic. I'd like another drink.' I'd say sure.Betrayer, I suppose. He wrote my wife a poem out, which we'll frame: 'After you went to bed, / Your tall sweet husband and I talked all night, / until there was no more to be said' ["John Berryman: A Memoir and an Interview," Ohio Review, Winter 1974].** "On Thursday morning they conducted the television interview, though Berryman followed his own train of talk rather than oblige Heyen's formal questions. Towards the end, Heyen observed that mental illness seemed to have afflicted Berryman's generation. **Yes, that's so. To find anything resembling it, you have to look at two generations, at least that I think of offhand: the English poets of the nineteenth century -- Beddoes, Darley, and so on -- and the Soviet poets just after the Revolution -- Mayakovsky and Yessenin. And now! Well, I don't know. I don't know. Some people certainly feel that it's the price you pay for an overdeveloped sensibility. Namely, you know, the door sticks, as I try to open it, it sticks. Okay, so I have a nervous breakdown. The guy at the corner of Fifth and Hennepin, the door sticks, shit, he fixes it and he opens it. No sweat! I've been in hospital for six months! There is an over-development of sensibility, okay, otherwise we couldn't draw; just as a really good carpenter or cabinet maker has a sensitivity, feels differently about wood from the rest of us. It's the price we pay. So every now and then we wind up in hospital, where they find us completely untreatable, and pretty soon they let us go. And we're loose on the body of society again.** "The deluded and saddening complacency he expressed was soon to be punctured. After another sleepless night, Heyen delivered Berryman to his plane for New York on the Friday morning. After an hour with Robert Giroux and another editor, Michael De Capua, at El Quixote by the Chelsea Hotel, Berryman took the plane back to Minneapolis that night. In a state of acute alcoholic exhaustion, he went 'out of contact' (to use his own phrase) for some hours and turned up only on the Sunday morning; it is impossible to reconstruct his movements in the interim. Confronted in his living-room by his [A.A.] sponsor and by Kate and others, he was admitted once again for treatment at St. Mary's Hospital, where he later reproached himself for being unable to cope with the genuine solicitude of his wife and friends."

Footprints In The Sand (The Real Dream)
This video was inspired by the poem "Footprints In The Sand". This is how it would have read if I had written it. Here is a link to a random video I found that has included the original version by Mary Stevenson. http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=cPcdwZYrveM&feature=related Sorry about the "audio"....I was having major problems with my mic and the audio software! My favorite comment on this video was by deathray32 who wrote: I like to go for long walks on the beach... I always saw only one set of footprints. Initially they were heavy and slow because I was carrying Jesus on my back. Then I gained the courage to throw him off. After that, my footprints became lighter, swifter and freer and I never looked back.

Michael Jackson We had him Poem recited by Maya Angellou HD
Michael Jackson We had him Poem recited by Maya Angellou Greek subtiles Please take a few minutes to watch this beautifull poem for Michael written by Maya Angellou. It really speaks from the HEART!! WE HAD HIM!!! WE HAD HIM Beloveds, now we know that we know nothing Now that our bright and shining star can slip away from our fingertips like a puff of summer wind Without notice, our dear love can escape our doting embrace Sing our songs among the stars and and walk our dances across the face of the moon In the instant we learn that Michael is gone we know nothing No clocks can tell our time and no oceans can rush our tides With the abrupt absence of our treasure Though we are many, each of us is achingly alone Piercingly alone Only when we confess our confusion can we remember that he was a gift to us and we did have him He came to us from the Creator, trailing creativity in abundance Despite the anguish of life he was sheathed in mother love and family love and survived and did more than that He thrived with passion and compassion, humor and style We had him Whether we knew who he was or did not know, he was ours and we were his We had him Beautiful, delighting our eyes He raked his hat slant over his brow and took a pose on his toes for all of us and we laughed and stomped our feet for him We were enchanted with his passion because he held nothing He gave us all he had been given Today in Tokyo, beneath the Eiffel Tower, in Ghana's Blackstar Square, in Johannesburg, in Pittsburgh, in Birmingham, Alabama and Birmingham England, we are missing Michael Jackson But we do know that we had him And we are the world. by Maya Angelou 2009 Music used Little Susie Instrumental Video/Subs/Translation by KINGMJATHINA

Polar Bear Christmas Poem
Klondike the polar bear tells his own version of the poem, "The Night Before Christmas." The poem is accompanied by cute photos of him wearing his festive Santa hat and wondering around a Brown University suite on Christmas Eve. Enjoy! Poem: "Klondike Christmas" 'Twas the night before Christmas, when all thro' Young O, Not a creature was stirring, but Klondike did know; That tomorrow would be a great day for a bear, In hopes that Santa would soon be there; The college kids were nestled all snug in their beds, While visions of cookies danced in their heads, Mama Jill and Alli tucked little Klondike in, Oh what a fun semester it had just been There were movie nights, games, and desserts galore And unfortunately some centipedes found on the floor Klondike sure loved his best friends at Brown They were by far, the coolest in town. As Klondike slowly drifted to sleep, He counted almost one hundred sheep; When, what to his wondering eyes should appear, But a miniature sleigh, and eight tiny rein-deer, With a little old driver, so lively and quick, Klondike knew in a moment it must be St. Nick. Klondike ran outside, "look, reindeer!" he claimed Santa whistled, and shouted, and called them by name: "Now! Dasher, now! Dancer, now! Prancer, and Vixen, "On! Comet, on! Cupid, on! Donner and Blitzen And then in a twinkling, Klodike heard on the roof The prancing and pawing of each little hoof. Klondike tried to meet Santa at the door He was so excited to see what's in store Klondike patiently waited to meet his guests And when they arrived he felt so blessed Santa was dressed all in fur, from his head to his foot, And his clothes were all tarnished with ashes and soot; A bundle of toys was flung on his back, Klondike was so excited, he brought Santa a snack Klodnike brought Santa chocolate chip cookies, Catherine taught him to bake them since they were buddies Santa was so grateful for the delicious treat Klondike was the cutest bear he ever did meet Klondike met all eight reindeer along with Santa, their friend They played for hours, and Klondike wished it wouldn't end Santa asked what Klondike wanted for Christmas He said "snuggles, hugs, playtime, and kisses" The reindeer all said goodbye and away they flew, With the sleigh full of toys - and St. Nicholas too: Klondike would miss his new Christmas friends But in only a year he would see them again Santa jumped into his sleigh and flew up into the sky Klondike jumped up and waved goodbye But Klondike heard him exclaim, as he drove out of sight, "Happy Christmas to all, and to all a good night!"

Poems for Jesus. Give him a chance
Poems. By Mistie (Jones) Antonsen May 2006.
For the First Time in Forever - Frozen HD 1080p
For the First Time in Forever is a song from the animated film Frozen to be sung by Anna (Kristen Bell) and Elsa (Idina Menzel). The song expresses Anna's delight at being able to see people again due to her sister's coronation. Meanwhile, it discloses Elsa's fear of accidentally revealing her powers to everyone. Lyrics by Robert Lopez & Kristen Anderson-Lopez: Anna: The window is open! So's that door! I didn't know they did that anymore! Who knew we owned eight thousand salad plates...? For years I've roamed these empty halls Why have a ballroom with no balls? Finally they're opening up the gates! There'll be actual real live people It'll be totally strange But wow! Am I so ready for this change 'Cause for the first time in forever There'll be music, there'll be light! For the first time in forever I'll be dancing through the night... Don't know if I'm elated or gassy But I'm somewhere in that zone! Cause for the first time in forever I won't be alone I can't wait to meet everyone! (gasp) What if I meet... the one? Tonight, imagine me gown and all Fetchingly draped against the wall The picture of sophisticated grace... Ooh! I suddenly see him standing there A beautiful stranger, tall and fair I wanna stuff some chocolate in my face! But then we laugh and talk all evening Which is totally bizarre Nothing like the life I've lead so far! For the first time in forever There'll be magic, there'll be fun! For the first time in forever I could be noticed by someone... And I know it is totally crazy To dream I'd find romance... But for the first time in forever At least I've got a chance! Elsa: Don't let them in Don't let them see Be the good girl You always have to be Conceal Don't feel Put on a show... Make one wrong move And everyone will know But it's only for today Anna: It's only for today! Elsa: It's agony to wait Anna: It's agony to wait! Elsa: Tell the guards to open up... the gate! Anna: The gate! For the first time in forever Elsa: Don't let them in, don't let them see Anna: I'm getting what I'm dreaming of! Elsa: Be the good girl you always have to be Anna: A chance to change my lonely world Elsa: Conceal Anna: A chance to find true love! Elsa: Conceal, don't feel Don't let them know Anna: I know it all ends tomorrow, So it has to be today! 'Cause for the first time in forever... For the first time in forever Nothing's in my way! --------------------------------------------------------------------- For the First Time in Forever - Frozen HD 1080p All media used in this video is used for the purpose of entertainment and education under the terms of fair use. Starry Eyes | Original Poem
A poem I wrote and a video to go alone with it. Links! twitter (and most things) : @AmeliaXanthe tumblr: only-as-small.tumblr.com G+: plus.google.com/+AmeliaXanthe Poetry: poetryispersonal.tumblr.com Starry Eyes For the girl that looked at him with starry eyes don't be afraid tell the whole world your story scream, write without hidden meanings, share what needs to be shared for your sake and our's don't forget to stick the quiet moments in your pocket every time the sound of what happened won't leave every time your screams echo back hold the moments in your hands let them warm your fingertips and use the silence to paint your world with stillness you'll say your eyes are stuck that you looked only for him, only for him you'll say it again only for him and again and "he" will stick and the rest will leave each letter floating away slower than the last enjoying the taste each memory leaves in your mouth don't forget to watch as they disappear into the clear blue sky your eyes won't sparkle anymore but your eyes will always be filled with stars in a universe that doesn't always understand that a red giant takes its time to turn into a nebula but you'll learn that in school where the boys are sweet but not like him nothings like him he stuck but your name was lost to the sky long ago because his mind is light and your eyes are stars life is a city where there's too much light and most stars are never seen but he will stick and your story will become him because you weren't afraid to share but you don't have to be your story but his story has always been him and your name is a word that's been erased

The Beautiful Lady Without Mercy
"La Belle Dame sans Merci" ("The Beautiful Lady Without Mercy") is a ballad produced by the English poet John Keats in 1819. The title was derived from the title of a 15th-century poem by Alain Chartier called La Belle Dame sans Mercy. Considered an English classic, the poem is an example of Keats' poetic preoccupation with love and death. The poem is about a fairy who condemns a knight to an unpleasant fate after she seduces him with her eyes and singing. The fairy inspired several artists to paint images that became early examples of 19th century femme fatale iconography. The poem continues to be referenced in many works of literature, music, art, and film. (wikipedia) "La Belle Dame sans Merci" was a popular subject for the Pre-Raphaelite Brotherhood. It was depicted by Frank Dicksee, Frank Cadogan Cowper, John William Waterhouse, Arthur Hughes, Walter Crane, and Henry Maynell Rheam. It was also satirized in the December 1, 1920 edition of Punch magazine. Below is both the original and revised version of the poem. The original version, 1819 O what can ail thee, knight-at-arms, Alone and palely loitering? The sedge has withered from the lake, And no birds sing! O what can ail thee, knight-at-arms, So haggard and so woe-begone? The squirrel’s granary is full, And the harvest’s done. I see a lily on thy brow, With anguish moist and fever-dew, And on thy cheeks a fading rose Fast withereth too. I met a lady in the meads, Full beautiful, a fairy’s child; Her hair was long, her foot was light, And her eyes were wild. I made a garland for her head, And bracelets too, and fragrant zone; She looked at me as she did love, And made sweet moan. I set her on my pacing steed, And nothing else saw all day long, For sidelong would she bend, and sing A faery’s song. She found me roots of relish sweet, And honey wild, and manna-dew, And sure in language strange she said— ‘I love thee true’. She took me to her Elfin grot, And there she wept and sighed full sore, And there I shut her wild, wild eyes With kisses four. And there she lullèd me asleep, And there I dreamed—Ah! woe betide!— The latest dream I ever dreamt On the cold hill side. I saw pale kings and princes too, Pale warriors, death-pale were they all; They cried—‘La Belle Dame sans Merci Hath thee in thrall!’ I saw their starved lips in the gloam, With horrid warning gapèd wide, And I awoke and found me here, On the cold hill’s side. And this is why I sojourn here, Alone and palely loitering, Though the sedge is withered from the lake, And no birds sing. The revised version, 1820 O what can ail thee, wretched wight, Alone and palely loitering? The sedge is wither'd from the lake, And no birds sing. Ah, what can ail thee, wretched wight, So haggard and so woe-begone? The squirrel’s granary is full, And the harvest’s done. She found me roots of relish sweet, And honey wild, and manna dew, And sure in language strange she said.— I love thee true. She took me to her elfin grot, And there she gaz'd and sighed deep, And there I shut her wild sad eyes So kiss'd to sleep. And there we slumber'd on the moss, And there I dream'd, ah woe betide!— The latest dream I ever dream'd On the cold hill side. I saw pale kings, and princes too, Pale warriors, death-pale were they all; Who cry'd—‘La Belle Dame sans Merci Hath thee in thrall!’ I saw their starv'd lips in the gloam, With horrid warning gaped wide, And I awoke, and found me here, On the cold hill’s side.
