Sad Love Poems For Her/Him #2

From the beginning, I never liked saying goodbye to you, and I still don’t like it. I don’t know how we got to a point where I thought I would say goodbye to you forever. Even though I convinced you that it was over between us, I cannot lie to myself anymore. My heart still longs for you. At the mention of your name, my heart skips a bit. I know that it’s not over, emotions got the better of us and we said things we didn’t mean. It was a misunderstanding and I need you back in my life. ❝ The Real Meaning Of LIFE is to Learn New things Everyday, To Experience Good and Bad. The Poetry of John Berryman (1970) 6/6

10:05
I ripped this straight from the only existing videotape copy of this astonishing and historically crucial interview. It needs to be shared with the world, not only those with high-end WorldCat accounts. Let the chips fall where they may. This interview took place on October 8, 1970. Fifteen months later, on January 7, 1972, John Berryman committed suicide by jumping from the Washington Avenue Bridge in Minneapolis, Minnesota. He was 57. In this interview, as on the page, Berryman is bristling with life. ................................................................................. THE POETRY OF JOHN BERRYMAN (1970) Brockport Writers Forum (State University of New York College at Brockport) Interviewers: William Heyen & Jerome Mazzaro Produced & Directed for Television by Francis R. Filardo ................................................................................ From John Haffenden's THE LIFE OF JOHN BERRYMAN (1982): "In October, shortly after beginning another slip [from sobriety], Berryman flew to give a reading and be interviewed on videotape at the State University of New York at Brockport. William Heyen, director of the Brockport Writers Forum, who was his host for a visit lasting two days, found himself awed and agitated by Berryman, whose arrival late on Wednesday 7 October had been preceded by erratic and inconsequential phone calls and travel delays. Immediately after the visit, Heyen took copious notes from having 'felt a sense of history in his presence': **Beard trimmed, hair not as wild, or high....Charming, disputatious, dominating, brilliant....'I won that round' after destroying someone trying to be friendly. He had a bad foot, pinched or displaced nerve. Went shoeless....In my easy chair Friday morning, stretched out straight, he seemed unreal, his clothes much too big for him, or so it seemed, as though there were nothing under his clothes. And before the reading he came out of the bathroom shirtless, all bone....We did get him to eat: a cup of chicken soup Wed. night; a ham & cheese sandwich Th. noon; a decent dinner Thurs. night. Constant bourbon, water, no ice. 'Mr. Heyen, I'm an alcoholic. I'd like another drink.' I'd say sure.Betrayer, I suppose. He wrote my wife a poem out, which we'll frame: 'After you went to bed, / Your tall sweet husband and I talked all night, / until there was no more to be said' ["John Berryman: A Memoir and an Interview," Ohio Review, Winter 1974].** "On Thursday morning they conducted the television interview, though Berryman followed his own train of talk rather than oblige Heyen's formal questions. Towards the end, Heyen observed that mental illness seemed to have afflicted Berryman's generation. **Yes, that's so. To find anything resembling it, you have to look at two generations, at least that I think of offhand: the English poets of the nineteenth century -- Beddoes, Darley, and so on -- and the Soviet poets just after the Revolution -- Mayakovsky and Yessenin. And now! Well, I don't know. I don't know. Some people certainly feel that it's the price you pay for an overdeveloped sensibility. Namely, you know, the door sticks, as I try to open it, it sticks. Okay, so I have a nervous breakdown. The guy at the corner of Fifth and Hennepin, the door sticks, shit, he fixes it and he opens it. No sweat! I've been in hospital for six months! There is an over-development of sensibility, okay, otherwise we couldn't draw; just as a really good carpenter or cabinet maker has a sensitivity, feels differently about wood from the rest of us. It's the price we pay. So every now and then we wind up in hospital, where they find us completely untreatable, and pretty soon they let us go. And we're loose on the body of society again.** "The deluded and saddening complacency he expressed was soon to be punctured. After another sleepless night, Heyen delivered Berryman to his plane for New York on the Friday morning. After an hour with Robert Giroux and another editor, Michael De Capua, at El Quixote by the Chelsea Hotel, Berryman took the plane back to Minneapolis that night. In a state of acute alcoholic exhaustion, he went 'out of contact' (to use his own phrase) for some hours and turned up only on the Sunday morning; it is impossible to reconstruct his movements in the interim. Confronted in his living-room by his [A.A.] sponsor and by Kate and others, he was admitted once again for treatment at St. Mary's Hospital, where he later reproached himself for being unable to cope with the genuine solicitude of his wife and friends."

Joseph Merrick - A Poem for him, ''From Her You May Have Loved''

01:48
A Romantic Poem, For A Man whose heart was full of romantic dreams.Audio only. ''For love's sake, a rose I give thee. For love's hope, the promise of a kiss. For all that you are, a tender wish To be with you beyond the Light, Drawn close within your cloak, Comforted by it's warmth and night. For love's sake, I hold you dear. For love's hope, to caress your lovely face. For all you mean to me, are feelings That I would have offered you; My heart and soul if it could be, That you would be alone no more. For love's sake, your delicate hand in mine. For love's hope, your words of the Devine. For all that you brought into this World, And my desire that I could have loved you, To have given you all that you deserved: In mystery to share joy in a dappled glade. For love's sake, I accept your gentle touch. For love's hope, your embrace is forever. For all that you are, I am overwhelmed. Yet, no tears shall fall; neither yours nor mine. Beautiful in dreams of present and past, Your eyes send me to that place of love fulfilled.''

Cocktail - The Last Barman Poet

03:19
I am the world's last barman poet. I see America drinking the fabulous cocktails I make. Americans getting stinking on something I stir or shake. The Sex on the Beach, The Schnapps made from peach, The Velvet Hammer, The Alabama Slammer. I make things with juice and froth. The Pink Squirrel, The 3-Toed Sloth. I make drinks so sweat and snazzy. The Iced Tea, The Kamikaze, The Orgasm, The Death Spasm, The Singapore Sling, The Ding-a-ling. America you're just devoted to every flavor I got. But if you want to get loaded, Why don't you just order a shot? Bar is OPEN!!!

Avant 17: Langston Hughes - The Dream Keeper | Weary Blues

04:01
Eric Mingus, voice David Amram, piano Larry Simon, guitar, music director with Groove Bacteria: Don Davis, alto saxes, clarinets Catherine Sikora, soprano sax Cynthia Chatis, Native American flute, flute Scip Gallant, Hammond organ Chris Stambaugh, bass Mike Barron, drums Shawn Russell, percussion Frank Laurino, percussion Langston Hughes (1902–67) was an American poet, novelist, social activist and playwright whose work showcased the dignity and beauty in ordinary black life. His African-American themes made him a primary contributor to the Harlem Renaissance of the 1920s. The hours he spent in Harlem clubs affected his work, making him one of the innovators of “Jazz/Poetry.” Hughes’ poetry is still powerful, relevant and contemporary today. The Langston Hughes Project came from jazz guitarist Larry Simon, who is the founder of JazzMouth, a unique festival in Portsmouth, New Hampshire that combines jazz and spontaneous music with readings by some of the finest poets. Half of the poems are duos with Mingus and Amram. The instrumentally varied balance of the album are Mingus duos with electric guitar or Hammond organ; with woodwinds and percussion or with larger ensembles. Hughes’ texts are brought to life by the rich, soulful delivery of Eric Mingus — son of Charles Mingus. For some years he worked as a session musician and backing singer, playing on dates with artists such as Carla Bley, Bobby McFerrin and Karen Mantler. He has also performed with the Mingus Big Band, Elliott Sharp’s Terraplane, Todd Rundgren, Elvis Costello, Nick Cave, Catherine Sikora and Levon Helm, and a featured performer in many of Hal Willner’s projects. Simon also brought David Amram — composer, conductor, multi-instrumentalist, and author — to the project. As a classical composer and performer, his integration of jazz, folk and world music led him to work with Dizzy Gillespie, Lionel Hampton, Willie Nelson, Charles Mingus, Levon Helm and Betty Carter. Amram has composed more than 100 orchestral and chamber music works, and written many scores for Broadway theater and film, including the classic scores for the films Splendor in The Grass and The Manchurian Candidate. Amram collaborated with Hughes on his cantata Let us Remember, premiered at the San Francisco Opera in 1965. Importantly, Amram gave the first ever public jazz/poetry readings in NYC in 1957-58 with Jack Kerouac, the spontaneous creation of words and music which came to be known as “jazz/poetry.” And jazz/poetry is what “Langston Hughes: The Dream Keeper” is.

Amazing Soulmate Prophecy, Poem & Dedication of Love

29:47
Published on Jun 15, 2016 http://amightywind.com Soulmate Prophecy-Poem “Bone of My Bones, Flesh of My Flesh, I Give” And the LORD YAHUVEH GOD said, It is not good that the man should be alone; I will make him an help meet for him. And Adam said, This is now Bone of my Bones & Flesh of my Flesh: she shall be called Woman, because she was taken out of Man. – Genesis 2:18, 23 This is a promise to my sisters in YAHUSHUA (‘JESUS CHRIST’)—who although they gave their mind, body, spirit, and souls to YAHUSHUA, they are still held captive in abusive marriages or held captives by memories of of an abusive marriage that were ordained in hell. Only YAHUSHUA can set you free from those that inflict or had inflicted great wounds to your mind, body, spirit and soul. This is your promise and my promise, where you have known the worst you shall know the best. I awoke with the LORD YAHUVEH speaking these Words to me, “I sent you Pastor Harry Regan. In four seasons you will know as confirmation. He fasted so you would hear...” The LORD told me to “Get up and write them down.” ABBA YAHUVEH gave me this poem to write, as GOD spoke to me in a dream, awakening me with the words. ALL will know it is “I AM”— that has joined you both together and NO man, or woman—or demon from hell, can stop what GOD has preordained. Though at times you both will fuss and fret, just know that “I AM” planned the exact time, and place, and how you first met. [...] NO more denying what you know to be true for again and again, I have told you: I bring you a woman who in man has known the worst like a curse. I bring her a man who “I AM” knows for her is the best and she was chosen for him from all the rest. I bring you a woman who “I AM” has decreed —your love was meant for her and her love was meant for thee— NOT only now, but for ALL eternity! The Poetry of John Berryman (1970) 5/6

09:47

Michael Jackson We had him Poem recited by Maya Angellou Greek subtiles Please take a few minutes to watch this beautifull poem for Michael written by Maya Angellou. It really speaks from the HEART!! WE HAD HIM!!! WE HAD HIM Beloveds, now we know that we know nothing Now that our bright and shining star can slip away from our fingertips like a puff of summer wind Without notice, our dear love can escape our doting embrace Sing our songs among the stars and and walk our dances across the face of the moon In the instant we learn that Michael is gone we know nothing No clocks can tell our time and no oceans can rush our tides With the abrupt absence of our treasure Though we are many, each of us is achingly alone Piercingly alone Only when we confess our confusion can we remember that he was a gift to us and we did have him He came to us from the Creator, trailing creativity in abundance Despite the anguish of life he was sheathed in mother love and family love and survived and did more than that He thrived with passion and compassion, humor and style We had him Whether we knew who he was or did not know, he was ours and we were his We had him Beautiful, delighting our eyes He raked his hat slant over his brow and took a pose on his toes for all of us and we laughed and stomped our feet for him We were enchanted with his passion because he held nothing He gave us all he had been given Today in Tokyo, beneath the Eiffel Tower, in Ghana's Blackstar Square, in Johannesburg, in Pittsburgh, in Birmingham, Alabama and Birmingham England, we are missing Michael Jackson But we do know that we had him And we are the world. by Maya Angelou 2009 Music used Little Susie Instrumental Video/Subs/Translation by KINGMJATHINA

Dream Come True

09:49
Improvised version of "Any dream will do" Marriage today is struggling. Divorces, adultery, misconceptions, etc are plaguing not only the marriage itself but products of those marriages (my generation and the next). My hope in this poem is to highlight the most frequent and problematic issues marriages face today while also pointing to Jesus as the ultimate healer, redeemer, and restorer of every marriage. Whether single or married, my intention would be that this poem would allow you to look more deeply to Jesus to either better your current marriage, or prepare for your future marriage. This is the next in the series of videos based on popular songs from hit musicals. We all have seen Joseph and the Amazing Technicolor Dream Coat. We all have been touched by the Bible story of a dreamer who have been hurt and betrayed, yet restored because of his ability to forgive. We all deep inside have a desire to know love, peace and light. As children we used to love fairy tales and I truly believe all these fantasy tales come from what is inside each of us. Everybody, whilst feeling himself/herself an ugly duckling, dreams of become a beautiful swan. We can all associate with the girl who is really a princess, yet dressed in rags and being mistreated... Cinderella waiting for her prince. Or what about Snow White who fell under the curse of the wicked witch and only the kiss of a prince can save her! We have became cursed with the world we live in, broken by sin, ugly and lost... and yet we dare to dream about the One who loves us unconditionally, who came for us to make us his own bride! And so the sad song becomes a wedding song, the tears of the brokenhearted are wiped away and turned into laughter. The weeping endures for a night, but joy comes in the morning! Improvised lyrics: Prologue (Eden) I closed my eyes, drew back the curtain To see for certain what I thought I knew Far, far away, someone was weeping But the world was sleeping Any dream will do I wore my coat with golden lining Bright colors shining, wonderful and new And in the east the dawn was breaking And the world was waking Any dream will do A crash of drums, a flash of light My golden coat flew out of sight The colors faded into darkness I was left alone Requiem May I return to the beginning The light is dimming, and the dream is too The world and I we are still waiting Still hesitating Any dream will do A crash of drums, a flash of light When someone came and took my shame His love drove out the fear and darkness I was not alone It is the dawn of a new beginning The light is shining, and the dream comes true The King's bride now dressed in white All things made new All my dreams came true Disclaimer: no copyright infringement intended. This video has the appearance of a still life, a landscape painting, a piece of art, an example of nature photography swans against a beautiful sunset. But it is actually our story. The adventure of life. We all need a happy ending to the story. A wise man once said: Its not important how many times you fall, but how you finish! Its the ending that really counts. Many of us are more concerned with the temporary than with the eternally. Life is not just food football fun and games. What about the future? Our goals? Happiness, hope, inspiration, joy, kids, love, romance... Yet issues such as climate change, aids, global warming, secrets to riches dominate our thoughts, our lifestyle. A new diet. A new fashion. Disney Channel. What about education? How to deal with credit? Finances? What about our freedom? Fear. We were made to be creative. Experience. Beings of expression. Beings with family. Friends. Who love the environment. Who dream dreams. To have faith. Believe in God. To live eternally. Eternity is not abstract, distant, something that belongs only to the domain of angels. Its not something only old people should think about, but children and youth. All the books, the latest bestseller, computers and internet just cause more confusion. But there is a happy ending. It is written. And the happy ending says: You belong. You are loved. You will live. If... you choose Him!

Son surprising his stepdad with adoption papers on Father's Day

06:04
Adult son asked his stepfather to legally adopt him so he can be listed on his birth certificate as his true and rightful Parent ❤️ The frame contains a picture of the two of them with a poem that says Some people would say you’re not my real Dad but we know this isn’t true .. For you’ve been a Real Dad to me in all the things we’ve been through. We’ve had our ups and downs sometimes its hard to bend .. But you’ve always been there when I needed you and that’s what matters in the end. You’ve been patient, kind and firm over the years as I’ve grown .. And I’m eternally grateful to you because you’ve treated me as your own. Although we’re not tied by bloodlines the Love and Trust you’ve given me .. Is a precious gift, day after day and that’s what counts as a Real Dad to me. So let’s just make it official...

When Did Poetry First Spark Your Interest?

04:37
If you're interested in licensing this or any other Big Think clip for commercial or private use, contact our licensing partner Executive Interviews: https://www.executiveinterviews.biz/rightsholders/bigthink/ Words have always fascinated Pinsky, though it was his failure as a saxophone player that finally pushed him into poetry. Question: When did poetry first spark your interest?  Robert Pinsky: I don't think I ever got into a thing called poetry writing poems the way somebody in a more traditional college educated family might. From as long as I can remember I have thought about the sounds of words. I can't remember a time where I wasn't making little tunes out of the sentence and tuned ------ I can't stop doing that and as long as I can remember I was thinking about consonants and vowels and also where words come from and there is a sentence that ends with a rhyme come from and when I learned how to read I liked reading the dictionary I not only like learning stuff from it I like the style of it. I like any of several varieties of blah blah. Two denoting as in one, but with the two, I like that and it didn't occur to me that ---- and I like both when other people did it when I can do it to make up alternate obscene or ludicrous words to popular songs. I always like all that and it was much later that I learned there was an art based on all of this. Question: How did you come into that art? Robert Pinsky: It was a gradual failure as a saxophone player. My ambition through my teens was --- I don't know if its ---- its probably not as dignified as my ambition. My day dreams were to be a great jazz player. The main obstacle to --- the only obstacle to that was deficiency of talent and I did play in a band in high school. It was professional in the sense that we blew into the instruments and people gave us money. Actually I was the only one blowing in instrument. It was basically a drummer, base player, piano player and me. We played Latin music at the beach club, swimming pools in the summer and we play high school dances, bars.It wasn't very glorious. My day dreams were glorious and when I went away to Rutgers there was one particular occasion I went back and I auditioned with these guys at a bar in Atlantic islands and as Wordsworth I might say I stunk up the place and my mind turned toward poetry. So almost overnight those day dreams of being a terrific musician changed into day dream of being a terrific poet. At that time I was reading, starting to be aware of this other art. Question: Do you still play? Robert Pinsky: Yes and still quite badly. In my study I always have a keyboard with headphones, so that only I can hear what I do and from time to time including right now I take out the saxophone and have a set up and I honk in that usually when I try to make sure there is no one the house. My wife is a psychotherapist with an office in the house and I only will if I even think that there might be a patient in the house and I am quite sure that I am just using the key board with the headphones. I don't want to kid the music and I don't want to embarrass myself and I am happy I took lessons for a while with the guy and I like playing with the Jamie hydrosol tapes which are rhythm sections. I am content. I am happy with that.Charlie Simik and I did the thing with mixing poetry and Jazz with some musicians a couple of months ago the jazz standard and to do something like that again in May. I like going on stage with musicians. I have done some narratives for classical music. I did a series of appearance of the tuckers string quartet. I am content to pretend to be one of the musicians and I prefer that to pretending to be a musician. I pretend to be a musician in the privacy of my own home.   Recorded On: 3/25/08

Thomas Lovell Beddoes "The Phantom-Wooer" Poem animation

01:16
Here is a virtual movie of the Victorian Gothic poet Thomas Lovell Beddoes reading his macabre poem "The Phantom Wooer" Thomas Lovell Beddoes (July 20, 1803 -- January 26, 1849) was an English poet and dramatist. Born in Clifton, Bristol, England, he was the son of Dr. Thomas Beddoes, a friend of Samuel Taylor Coleridge, and Anna, sister of Maria Edgeworth. He was educated at Charterhouse and Pembroke College, Oxford. He published in 1821 The Improvisatore, which he afterwards endeavoured to suppress. His next venture was The Bride's Tragedy (1822), a blank verse drama that was published and well reviewed, and won for him the friendship of Barry Cornwall. Beddoes' work shows a constant preoccupation with death. In 1824, he went to Göttingen to study medicine, motivated by his hope of discovering physical evidence of a human spirit which survives the death of the body.[1] He was expelled, and then went to Würzburg to complete his training. He then wandered about practising his profession, and expounding democratic theories which got him into trouble. He was deported from Bavaria in 1833, and had to leave Zürich, where he had settled, in 1840. He continued to write, but published nothing. He led an itinerant life after leaving Switzerland, returning to England only in 1846, before going back to Germany. He became increasingly disturbed, and committed suicide by poison at Basel, in 1849, at the age of 46.[2] For some time before his death, he had been engaged on a drama, Death's Jest Book, which was published in 1850 with a memoir by his friend, T. F. Kelsall. His Collected Poems were published in 1851. Beddoes lacked a true dramatic instinct. His plots are convoluted, and such was his obsession with the questions posed by death that his characters lack individuation; they all struggle with the same ideas that vexed Beddoes. But his poetry is full of thought and richness of diction, and for this Lytton Strachey referred to him as "the last Elizabethan". Some of his short pieces, e.g.: "If there were dreams to sell," (Dream-Pedlary) and "If thou wilt ease thine heart," (Death's Jest-Book, Act II) are masterpieces of intense feeling exquisitely expressed. Greece vs Rome, with Boris Johnson and Mary Beard

01:35:57
Want to join the debate? Check out the Intelligence Squared website to hear about future live events and podcasts: http://www.intelligencesquared.com __________________________ Filmed at Central Hall Westminster on 19th November 2015. On November 19th Intelligence Squared hosted the ultimate clash of civilisations: Greece vs Rome. It was also the ultimate clash of intellectual titans. Boris Johnson, Mayor of London and ardent classicist, made the case for Greece; while Mary Beard, Professor of Classics at Cambridge and redoubtable media star, championed Rome. As Boris argued, the Greeks got there first: in literature, history, art and philosophy. The Iliad and the Odyssey are the earliest surviving epic poems, the foundations on which European literature was built. The Greek myths – the tales of Oedipus, Heracles and Persephone, to name but a few – contain the archetypal plot elements of hubris and nemesis on which even Hollywood films depend today. It was in ancient Athens that the birth of democracy took place under the leadership of the great statesman Pericles. And in that political climate with its love of freedom and competition, and passion for argument, the great cultural flourishing of classical Athens occurred: the tragedies of Aeschylus, Sophocles and Euripides; the philosophical writings of Plato and Aristotle; and the marble and stone wonders of the Parthenon. Nothing before or since has matched that explosion of talent in a slice of Mediterranean coast smaller than Gloucestershire, with a population the size of Bristol’s. But as Mary Beard reminded us, Greece eventually lost out to Rome. Little Athens, with its loose-knit, short-lived empire, had nothing to rival Rome’s scale. From Hadrian’s Wall to north Africa, from Spain’s Atlantic coast to Babylon, the Romans stamped a permanent legacy on architecture, language, religion and politics. Although nothing can detract from the brilliance of Greek literature, the great Roman writers have an immediacy unmatched by any other ancient culture. Virgil’s epic poem the Aeneid, while invoking Homer, conveys an ambiguity towards war that appeals to modern sensibilities; Catullus’s taut analysis of his own complex emotions and the scatological insults he hurls at his rivals make him seem like the kind of clever and amusing friend we all wish we had. These poets reach out to us with voices that make the intervening 2,000 years vanish. While Athens declined into a forgotten backwater, Rome became the eternal city, home to the greatest classical buildings on earth – the Colosseum, the Pantheon and Trajan’s column. It is thanks to a Roman emperor, Constantine, that Christianity became both the presiding European religion and the force that shaped the Renaissance. Europe is still built in Rome’s image, despite the fall of the Roman Empire. Some say that if Mary Beard had been in charge, the Roman Empire would never have fallen. Others say Boris is soon to be the Pericles of Downing Street. Who gets your vote?
