Spectacular view of Train gliding over sea on the dangerous Rameswaram Pamban Bridge! Train accidents, Cyclonic storms, Ships colliding into the bridge, People falling from train into the sea, Mishaps, Disasters the PAMBAN BRIDGE has seen it all and is still going strong withstanding nature's fury, man made hazards for over 100 years! The Pamban Bridge truly is a marvel of Engineering and ingenuity. I was lucky enough to behold the beauty of India's first ever sea bridge over the weekend. Enjoy watching GOC WDM3A 16476R Diesel locomotive in charge of the 16779 Tirupati - Rameswaram Meenakshi Express carefully gliding over the 2.3 KM long cantilever bridge at a restricted speed of 15 kmph! The Pamban Bridge : ---------------------------- The Pamban Bridge is a cantilever railway bridge on the Palk Strait which connects the town of Rameswaram on Pamban Island to mainland India. The bridge refers to both the road bridge and the cantilever railway bridge, though primarily it means the latter. Opened in 1914, it was India's first sea bridge, and was the longest sea bridge in India till 2010. The rail bridge is for the most part, a conventional bridge resting on concrete piers, but has a double leaf bascule section midway, which can be raised to let ships and barges pass through. On 24 February 2014, the Pamban Bridge marked its 100th anniversary. The Rameswaram bridge aka Pamban bridge is 6,776 ft (2,365 m) long and was opened for traffic in 1914. The railroad bridge is a still-functioning double-leaf bascule bridge section that can be raised to let ships pass under the bridge. About 10 ships such as cargo carriers, coast guard ships, fishing vessels and oil tankers pass through the bridge every month. After completion of Pamban bridge, metre gauge lines were laid from Mandapam up to Pamban Station, from here the railway lines bifurcated into two directions one towards Rameshwaram about 6.25 miles (10.06 km) up and another branch line of 15 miles (24 km) terminating at Dhanushkodi. The section was opened to traffic in 1914. The bridge consist of 143 piers and the centre span is a Scherzer rolling type lift span. It's 220 ft (67 m) long and each of 100 tonnes. Pamban Bridge accident 1964 : ------------------------------------------- The 1964 Rameshwaram cyclone (also known as the Dhanushkodi cyclone) was regarded as one of the most powerful storms to ever strike Sri Lanka (known then as Ceylon) on record. Early on December 23, the storm struck Ceylon near Pamban Island with winds estimated at 240 kmph (150 mph), ranking it as a modern-day super cyclonic storm. At least 1,800 people lost their lives as a result of the cyclone. On December 23, an estimated 7.6 m (25 ft) storm surge struck the town of Dhanuskodi on the south eastern edge of the island, submerging the town and overturning the Pamban - Dhanuskodi passenger train killing all 150 passengers on board. The town, an important transit point between India and Ceylon, was completely destroyed and has not been rebuilt since. Thanks for watching! do subscribe to my channel for more train videos :)

India's MOST DANGEROUS Rail BRIDGE PAMBAN Rameswaram.

19:43
The Pamban Sea Bridge is a railway bridge constructed on the Palk Strait which connects the Island town of Rameswaram to the rest of India. This is the first ever Sea Bridge constructed in India and is about 2 KM long opened to service on 24 February 1914. So far this has been one of the most dangerous and deadly Sea Bridges ever constructed due to its low raised concrete piers just a few feet above the sea water level. The piers almost go invisible when the water level raises during heavy monsoons. The Bridge is restricted to a speed of only 15 KPH due to the double leaf bascule section midway (Cantilever), which can be raised to let ships and barges pass through. An anemometer fixed on the 56th pier over the bridge records the velocity of the wind. Whenever the velocity of the wind exceeds 58 KPH, the signals are turned red preventing any train movement on the bridge. The bridge is located in the world's second most corrosive environment after Florida, making its maintenance a challenging job. The location is also a cyclone-prone high wind velocity zone. The bridge consist of 143 piers and the center span is a Scherzer rolling type lift span. Each half of the lifting span weighs approximately 415 tonnes. The Bridge was originally in Meter gauge alignment and was converted to Broad gauge in 2008. The adjacent road bridge was opened in 1988 until then Rail and Ferry services were the only means of transport to cross the Sea. This video covers a lot of Trains moving over the Bridge from various view points. Some spots were really risky. The stretch is non electrified between Trichy - Rameswaram and Madurai -Ramerswaram hence all trains are powered by ALCo's only, EMD's have never been tested on this Bridge. The Mumbai Trans Harbour Link (MTHL), also known as the Sewri-Nhava Sheva Trans Harbour Link, is a proposed 21.8 km, freeway grade road bridge connecting the Indian city of Mumbai with Navi Mumbai, its satellite city. When completed, it would be the longest sea bridge in India. The bridge will begin in Sewri, South Mumbai and cross Thane Creek north of Elephanta Island and will terminate at Chirle village, near Nhava Sheva. The road will be linked to the Mumbai Pune Expressway in the east, and to the proposed Western Freeway in the west. The sea link will contain a 6 lane highway, which will be 27 meters in width, in addition to edge strip and crash barrier. The project is estimated to cost ₹17,843 crore (US$2.6 billion). As of October 2016, the MMRDA is evaluating pre-qualification bids for the project, and is expected to award contracts by the end of 2016. Construction is expected to begin after monsoon 2017. The Bandra–Worli Sea Link, officially called Rajiv Gandhi Sea Link, is a cable-stayed bridge with pre-stressed concrete-steel viaducts on either side that links Bandra in the Western Suburbs of Mumbai with Worli in South Mumbai. The bridge is a part of the proposed Western Freeway that will link the Western Suburbs to Nariman Point in Mumbai's main business district. Bandra Worli Sealink During Early Monsoon The ₹16 billion (US$240 million) bridge was commissioned by the Maharashtra State Road Development Corporation (MSRDC), and built by the Hindustan Construction Company. The first four of the eight lanes of the bridge were opened to the public on 30 June 2009.All eight lanes were opened on 24 March 2010. The sea-link reduces travel time between Bandra and Worli during peak hours from 60–90 minutes to 20–30 minutes. As of October 2009, BWSL had an average daily traffic of around 37,500 vehicles. The sunrise & sunset views attract many photo enthusiasts. Stopping on the Worli sea link for photography is banned by Govt of Maharashtra.

most dangerous railway bridge in the world/Rameswaram (pamban) bridge in india

The Pamban Bridge is a railway bridge on the Palk Strait which connects the town of Rameswaram on Pamban Island to mainland India. The bridge refers to both the road bridge and the cantilever railway bridge, though primarily it means the latter. Opened on 24 February 1914, it was India's first sea bridge, and was the longest sea bridge in India until the opening of the Bandra-Worli Sea Link in 2010. The rail bridge is, for the most part, a conventional bridge resting on concrete piers, but has a double leaf bascule section midway, which can be raised to let ships and barges pass through History This beautiful scenery was shot in Rameshwaram at evening sunset.. The water looks blue from reflection of sky.. Pic shot from Pamban Bridje. The view from Pamban Bridge, Rameswaram The railway bridge is 6,776 ft (2,065 m) long. It was opened on 24 February 1914, construction having begun in 1911. However, plans for a bridge had been suggested from as early as 1870 as the British Administration sought ways to increase trade with Ceylon. The bridge has a still-functioning double-leaf bascule section that can be raised to let ships pass. The adjacent road bridge was opened in 1988. The railway bridge historically carried metre gauge trains, but Indian Railways upgraded the bridge to carry broad gauge trains as part of Project Unigauge work that was completed on 12 August 2007. Until recently, the two leaves of the bridge were opened manually using levers by workers. Around 10 ships — cargo carriers, coast guard ships, fishing vessels and oil tankers — pass through the bridge every month. More work was carried out on the bridge in 2009 to strengthen it to enable it to carry goods trains. After completion of the bridge, metre-gauge lines were laid from Mandapam up to Pamban station. From here the railway line bifurcated, one line towards Rameshwaram about 6.25 miles (10.06 km) up and another branch line of 15 miles (24 km) terminating at Dhanushkodi. The section was opened to traffic in 1914. The Ministry of Indian Railways sanctioned Rs. 25 crore to replace the existing 65.23-meter- long rolling type span, which opened like a pair of scissors to allow the vessels to pass the bridge with 66-meter-long single truss span which could be opened with the press of the button. The noted Boat Mail ran on this track between 1915 and 1964 from Madras-Egmore up to Dhanushkodi, from where the passengers were ferried to Talaimannar in Ceylon. The metre-gauge branch line from Pamban Junction to Dhanushkodi was abandoned after it was destroyed by the 1964 Dhanushkodi cyclone. The bridge was subsequently restored to working conditions under Elattuvalapil Sreedharan in just 46 days. On 13 January 2013 the bridge suffered minor damage when a naval barge drifted into it. The tug towing a naval barge from Kolkata to Karwar near Mumbai ran aground hitting rocks on 10 January during bad weather. The 220 tonne barge then drifted into the bridge causing part of it to tilt slightly and requiring repair work to the piers.[9] In 2013 it was reported that Indian Railways had applied to UNESCO for the bridge to be made a world heritage site dangerous railway bridges in the world dangerous railway bridges india dangerous railway bridge in indian most dangerous railway bridges in india top 10 dangerous railway bridges dangerous railway bridges dangerous railway bridges in india dangerous train bridges in india dangerous train bridge in the world most dangerous train bridge in the world most dangerous railway bridges world dangerous railway bridges world Indian railways rrb secunderabad rrb Mumbai rrb alahabad rrb bubeneswar rrb ghorakhpoor rrb Kolkata south central railway east coast railway central railway northern railway rrb new Delhi rrb recruitment railway recruitment 2016 upcoming Railway jobs 2017

Till 1988, the Pamban connect was the main surface transport that associated Tamil Nadu's island of Rameswaram to the terrain. In 1988, a street connect was additionally built parallel to the rail connect. This street connect is otherwise called Annai Indira Gandhi Road Bridge. The Pamban Road Bridge interfaces the National Highway (NH 49) with the Rameswaram island. Pamban Bridge is a railway bridge which connects the town of Rameswaram on Pamban Island to mainland India. Opened on 24 February 1914, it was India's first sea bridge, and was the longest sea bridge in India until the opening of the Bandra-Worli Sea Link in 2010. The rail bridge is, for the most part, a conventional bridge resting on concrete piers, but has a double-leaf basculesection midway, which can be raised to let ships and barges pass through. Until 1988, the Pamban bridge was the only surface transport that connected Tamil Nadu's island of Rameswaram to the mainland. In 1988, a road bridge was also constructed parallel to the rail bridge. This road bridge is also known as Indira Gandhi Road Bridge. The Pamban Road Bridge connects the National Highway (NH 49) with the Rameswaram island. It stands on the Palk Strait and between the shores of Mandapam (Place on the Indian Main land) and Pamban (One of the fishermen town in Rameswaram island). It was inaugurated by former Indian Prime Minister Rajiv Gandhi on 2 October 1988.This 2.345 km long Bridge took close to 14 years to be completed. The Pamban railway bridge spans a 2.065 km strait between the Indian mainland and Pamban island. The mainland end of the bridge is located at 9°16′56.70″N79°11′20.12″E. The bridge is located in the world's second most corrosive environment after Florida, making its maintenance a challenging job. The location is also a cyclone-prone high wind velocity zone. The railway bridge is located 12.5 metres (41 ft) above sea level and is 6,776 ft (2,065 m) long. The bridge consists of 143 piers and has a double-leaf bascule section with a Scherzer rolling type lift span that can be raised to let ships pass. Each half of the lifting span weighs 415 tonnes (457 tons). The two leaves of the bridge are opened manually using levers. Planning and Construction Plans for a bridge to connect to mainland was suggested in 1870 as the British Administration sought ways to increase trade with Ceylon. The construction began in August 1911 and was opened on 24 February 1914. The adjacent road bridge was opened in 1988. telugu Design

One of the Deadliest Bridges In the World : THE PAMBAN BRIDGE

11:09
Location :- Pamban Bridge Train :- Trichy - Rameshwaram Passenger DETAILS ABOUT THE PAMBAN BRIDGE The Pamban Bridge (Tamil: பாம்பன் பாலம்) is a cantilever bridge on the Palk Strait connects Rameswaram on Pamban Island to mainland India. It refers to both the road bridge and the cantilever railway bridge, though primarily it means the latter. It was India's first sea bridge. It is the second longestsea bridge in India (after Bandra-Worli Sea Link) at a length of about 2.3 km. The railway bridge is 6,776 ft (2,065 m)[1] and was opened for traffic in 1914. The railroad bridge is a still-functioning double-leaf bascule bridge section that can be raised to let ships pass under the bridge. The railway bridge historically carried metre-gauge trains on it, but Indian Railways upgraded the bridge to carry broad-gauge trains in a project that finished Aug. 12, 2007. Until recently, the two leaves of the bridge were opened manually using levers by workers.[1] About 10 ships — cargo carriers, coast guard ships, fishing vessels and oil tankers — pass through the bridge every month. From the elevated two-lane road bridge, adjoining islands and the parallel rail bridge below can be viewed. As per chronicles of Kutch Gurjar Kshatriya community, mentioned in their book - Nanji Bapa Ni Nondh Pothi. The erection and construction of Pamban Bridge was done by Mistri Manji Daya Wegad with Lakhu Devji Vegad both of Anjar, Varjang Hirji of Nagalpar and Gangji Narayan of Khedoi. Together built the Railway lines and Pamban Bridge over creek of Rameshwaram to Pamban construction of which they started in year 1887 and completed sometime in 1912 for South Indian Railway. While working on Pamban Bridge the Mistris Lakhu Devji Vegad of Anjar and Gangji Narayan of Khedoi also built famous Temple of Neel-Mandir having seven domes atRameshwaram, construction which, they started in 1899 and completed in about five years by 1905. After completion of bridge metre-gauge lines were laid by them from Mandapam up to Pamban Station, from here the railway lines bifurcated into two directions one towardsRameshwaram about 6.25 miles (10.06 km) up and another branch line of 15 miles (24 km) terminating at Dhanushkodi. The section was opened to traffic in 1914.[2] According to Dr Narayanan, the bridge is located at the "world's second highly corrosive environment", next to Miami, US, making the construction a challenging job. The location is also a cyclone-prone high wind velocity zone.[1] This Bridge consist of 143 pilers and the centre span is called swichers bridge. It's 220 ft (67 m) long and each of 100 tonnes. RAMESHWARAM Rameswaram (Tamil: இராமேஸ்வரம், is a town in Ramanathapuram district in the Indian state of Tamil Nadu. It is located on Pamban Island separated from mainland India by the Pamban channel and is about 50 kilometres from Mannar Island, Sri Lanka. Pamban Island, also known as Rameswaram Island, is connected to mainland India by the Pamban Bridge. Rameswaram is the terminus of the railway line from Chennai and Madurai. Together with Kashi, it is considered to be one of the holiest places in India to Hindus, and part of the Char Dham pilgrimages. Hence, it is a bustling pilgrim centre. It is situated in the Gulf of Mannar at the very tip of the Indian peninsula. According to legend, this is the place from where Lord Rama built a bridge Ram Setu (also known as Adam's Bridge) across the sea to Lanka to rescue his consort Sita from her abductor Ravana. Both the Vaishnavites and Shaivites visit this pilgrimage centre which is known as the Varanasi of the south. Ex-president of India, Dr. A.P.J. Abdul Kalam, hails from a fishing hamlet called Dhanushkodi situated on this island. Rameswaram is located at 9.28°N 79.3°E.[1] It has an average elevation of 10 metres (32 feet). The religious island is spread in an area of 61.8 square kilometres and happens to be in the shape of a conch. The Ramanatha Swamy Temple occupies major area of Rameshwaram. The beach of Rameswaram is famous for its beautiful sea featured with no waves at all. The sea waves rise to a maximum height of 3 cm and the view looks like a very big river. Legend has it that Lord Ram of Ramayana prayed to the sea god to pave the way for Lanka. The sea god granted a boon saying that he will make the sea waves less to aid him in building a rock bridge. India's most dangerous Bridge constructed over the Sea , Pamaban Bridge at RAMESWARAM.Chennai

01:33
Thalassery kadal palam --------------Thalassery Sea Bridge, @kerala In India

05:22
Thalassery Pier locally known as Kadalpalam is located in Thalassery, Kannur District of Kerala state, south India. It is an old pier extending out into the Arabian Sea.[1] It is frequented by people taking evening walks. This "Kadalpalam" was used as a commercial access through the sea, to and from the Tellicherry Bazar, during the European rule. It is an old story now. At present it is in a deteriorating state. Now it can be preserved as a Tourist Centre.[2][3] It was in 1910 that the East India Company constructed the pier which extends to the Arabian Sea for transporting commodities to and from ships. The large rocks on the shore and shallow waters often led to shipwrecks and hence the pier was constructed, with huge cranes placed at its end and rail tracks on either side for easy transport of goods from the godowns situated at the shore. A busy commercial centre then, Thalassery witnessed brisk development with its export of spices, coffee, fish, wood, and pepper, attracting people from all over. The town became an administrative centre of operations and the judicial headquarters while the port stood a mute observer to the glory of the town and its development. It was the advent of the Mangalore port which reduced its significance principally, while many more aspects contributed to its slow degeneration. The ships disappeared, and gradually the cranes and the trolley tracks
