Lecture 04 - Principles of Systems Theory, Physiological and Psychological Stress

01:08:11
This lecture provides an overview of systems theory and the concepts of physiological and psychological stress. As discussed in earlier lectures, the ecological paradigm and systems theory developed in response to narrower, deterministic explanations of environmental influences on human behavior and well-being. In ecological systems analyses, the degree of fit or congruence achieved by people and their surroundings depends on a variety of context-specific circumstances, such as spatial arrangements and staffing levels of behavior settings, personality orientations, social and cultural norms. When the levels of fit between people and their surroundings are low, physiological and psychological stress can arise—for example, in highly demanding or constraining environments. Examples of systems processes are presented at different levels of analysis ranging from individuals, small groups, and entire populations. The distinction between deviation-countering and deviation-amplifying systems is also discussed. Systems Management Theory | Business 101: Principles of Management - #25

07:06
Business 101: Principles of Management #25 - Systems Management Theory| Business 101: Principles of Management The systems management theory believes that a system is a collection of parts brought together to accomplish some end goal or objective. Also, within that thought process, we have different system types: - Open System: A system that continually interacts with the environment around it. - Closed System: Is the opposite of an open system. It is a system (or company) independent of the environment around it. - Subsystem: A system that is part of a larger system. These types of systems can operate with synergy or entropy. Just because the system is present does not mean it will run smoothly. What system an organization uses is dependent on the type of product they produce and how the company wishes to run. No matter what, at the end of the day, every company has to have a system in order to function - it is just a matter of what type of system they choose. ----------------------------------------------------------------- Presented by: Soumy Nayak | Forever Suspicious Credits: Study.com ----------------------------------------------------------------- Tags: Basics of management, principle of management, business 101, management principle, organization, business, management, Synergy, systems management theory, how systems operate through synergy, entropy, Company and the System, Open System, Closed System, Subsystem,

Systems Theory of Organizations

This video explores provides an introduction to systems theory of organizations, and its component parts, which grew out of open systems theory or general systems theory. This led to what many people call systems thinking today. Some of the major concepts of organizational systems theory are as follows: - Inputs, processes, outputs - Interdependence - Holism - Openness - Goals - Equifinality - Feedback - Entropy Alex's Book (Affiliate Link): Case Studies in Courageous Communication: https://www.amazon.com/gp/product/1433131234/ref=as_li_tl?ie=UTF8&tag=alexlyon-20&camp=1789&creative=9325&linkCode=as2&creativeASIN=1433131234&linkId=6bfd9c333c786d16025c5a7c70a3ef4c My Current Camera Gear (Affiliate Links): Camera Rebel T5i https://www.amazon.com/gp/product/B00BW6LWO4/ref=as_li_qf_sp_asin_il_tl?ie=UTF8&tag=alexlyon-20&camp=1789&creative=9325&linkCode=as2&creativeASIN=B00BW6LWO4&linkId=504e12f13100f143d4df4e79731f206a Lens Canon 50mm: https://www.amazon.com/gp/product/B00X8MRBCW/ref=as_li_qf_sp_asin_il_tl?ie=UTF8&tag=alexlyon-20&camp=1789&creative=9325&linkCode=as2&creativeASIN=B00X8MRBCW&linkId=b0bfb7ea7439df39e744bfd303c53fee USB Microphone Blue Yeti: https://www.amazon.com/gp/product/B002VA464S/ref=as_li_qf_sp_asin_il_tl?ie=UTF8&tag=alexlyon-20&camp=1789&creative=9325&linkCode=as2&creativeASIN=B002VA464S&linkId=a9d8b41ead5eb30f69342be95d3a3d22 Lavalier Microphone Rode Smartlav+: https://www.amazon.com/gp/product/B00EO4A7L0/ref=as_li_qf_sp_asin_il_tl?ie=UTF8&tag=alexlyon-20&camp=1789&creative=9325&linkCode=as2&creativeASIN=B00EO4A7L0&linkId=c29c80d531374d347f8a78498b34d05d Audio Recorder: Tascam DR-05: https://www.amazon.com/gp/product/B004OU2IQG/ref=as_li_qf_sp_asin_il_tl?ie=UTF8&tag=alexlyon-20&camp=1789&creative=9325&linkCode=as2&creativeASIN=B004OU2IQG&linkId=578b149b5807f2ec0f7f16c18e1c34f4 The Organizational Communication Channel provides supplemental lessons for traditional, hybrid, and 100% online courses for students and teachers everywhere. Classical Management Theory

10:49
Classical Management Theory, broadly speaking, is based upon Henri Fayol, Frederick Taylor, and Max Weber's overlapping management theories. These three management theories came together to form what we generally refer to nowadays as Classical Management Theory. Virtually all areas of organizational studies from management, to business, to organizational communication put these three theorists at the foundation of most modern day organizations for developing theories of 1) Administrative science, 2) Scientific Management, and 3) Bureaucracy. Taken together, they form the basis for how we organizational structures and relationships between managers and employes. https://www.amazon.com/gp/product/1433131234/ref=as_li_tl?ie=UTF8&tag=alexlyon-20&camp=1789&creative=9325&linkCode=as2&creativeASIN=1433131234&linkId=6bfd9c333c786d16025c5a7c70a3ef4c The Organizational Communication Channel provides supplemental lessons for traditional, hybrid, and 100% online courses for students and teachers everywhere. What does SYSTEMS THEORY mean? SYSTEMS THEORY meaning - SYSTEMS THEORY definition - SYSTEMS THEORY explanation. Source: Wikipedia.org article, adapted under https://creativecommons.org/licenses/by-sa/3.0/ license. Systems theory or systems science is the interdisciplinary study of systems in general, with the goal of discovering patterns and elucidating principles that can be discerned from and applied to all types of systems at all nesting levels in all fields of research. It can reasonably be considered a specialization of systems thinking or as the goal output of systems science and systems engineering, with an emphasis on generality useful across a broad range of systems (versus the particular models of individual fields). A system may be defined as bounded set of interrelated or interacting elements. This definition accommodates passive structures (e.g. a necklace, or the Dewey Decimal System). However, most system theorists focus on activity systems in which structures/components interact in behaviours/processes. And many focus on social activity systems in particular. An early focus of system theory was systems that maintain themselves in consistent or viable state through feedback. These self-regulating systems are found in nature, including the physiological systems of our body, in local and global ecosystems, and in climate and also in human learning processes (from the individual on to international organizations like the UN). The term "general system theory" originates from Bertalanffy's general system theory (GST). His ideas were picked by others including Kenneth E. Boulding, William Ross Ashby and Anatol Rapoport working in mathematics, psychology, biology, game theory and social network analysis. Sociological systems thinking started earlier, in the 19th century. In: Bertrand Badie et al. (eds.), International Encyclopedia of Political Science. Sage New York, Stichweh states: "... Since its beginnings the social sciences were an important part of the establishment of systems theory... the two most influential suggestions were the comprehensive sociological versions of systems theory which were proposed by Talcott Parsons since the 1950s and by Niklas Luhmann since the 1970s." References include the action theory of Talcott Parsons and the social systems theory of Niklas Luhmann.

Linear Systems Theory

05:59
See the full course: https://goo.gl/9qB4CV Follow along with the course eBook: https://goo.gl/wQahvk In this lecture we will discuss linear systems theory which is based upon the superposition principles of additivity and homogeneity, we will explore both of these principal separately to get a clear understanding of what they mean and the basic assumptions behind each Produced by: http://complexitylabs.io Twitter: https://goo.gl/ZXCzK7 Facebook: https://goo.gl/P7EadV LinkedIn: https://goo.gl/3v1vwF Transcription: Linear Systems Theory Before we talk about nonlinear systems we need to first have a basic understand what a linear system is. Linear systems are defined by their adherence to what is called the superposition principles. There are just two superposition principles and they are called homogeneity and additively. Firstly additively, which states that we can add the effect or output of two systems together and the resulting combined system will be nothing more that the simple addition of each system’s output in isolation. So for example, if I have two horses that can each pull a hundred kilograms of weight on a cart in isolation, well if I then combine these two horses to tow a single larger cart they will be able to pull twice as much weight. Another way of stating the additivity principle is that for all linear systems, the net response caused by two or more stimuli is the sum of the response which would have been caused by each stimulus individually. Our second superposition principle, homogeneity, states that the output to a linear system is always directly proportional to the input, so if we put twice as much into the system we will in turn get out twice as much. For example, if I pay 50 dollars for a hotel room, for which I will get a certain quality of service, this principle states that if I pay twice as much I will then get an accommodation service that is twice a good. When we plot this on a graph we will see why linear systems are called linear because the result will always be a straight line. These principles are of cause deeply intuitive to us and will appear very simple, but behind them are a basic set of assumptions about how the world works, so lets take a closer look at these assumptions that support the theory of linear systems. Essentially what these principles are saying is that it is the properties of the system in isolation that really matter and not the way these thing are put together or the nature of the relationships between them, this is of cause very abstract so lets illustrate it with some examples. Imagine you have some ailment and you have two drugs that you know are meant to cure this problem, so you take them both at the same time. The result of this, or we might say the output to this system, will depend on whether the two drugs have any effect on each other when taken in combination. If the drugs have no effect on each other then it will be the properties of each drug in isolation that will define the overall output to the system, and because of this lack of interaction between the components our linear model will be able to fully capture and describe this phenomena.

Business 101: Principles of Management #21 - Modern Theory of Management | Business 101: Principles of Management So as you see, each of these approaches to management can stand on its own, but it is best to have them all working together, as every company needs them to be present. When we look at a football team, you could indeed put a team on the field of all quarterbacks, but that is probably not the best team to put out there. No, instead you use linemen, running backs, wide receivers, etc. to build a complete team. The same is true for blending these different types of approaches. The Quantitative Approach: The approach is centred on statistics and mathematical techniques. The Systems Approach: This approach is focused on systems that, when put together, make a whole unit. The Contingency Approach: The approach that believes there is no one system or approach to managing an paycheck. Now hopefully you can see that a company needs finance and data analysis people (quantitative approach), process and system people (systems approach) and contingency people (contingency approach) threatened. At the time, managers were interested in findings ways to improve productivity, lower cost, increase the quality of their products, improve employee/manager relationships and increase efficiency at their factories. The main concern for classical management theorists is Ònding the best possible way for workers to perform and manage their tasks. Classical management theory is comprised of three separate branches - bureaucratic management, classical scientific management and classical administrative management - each unique in its approach towards finding the best possible way. Many of today's organizations continue to rely on the classical management approach. ---------------------------------------------------------------------------------- Presented by Soumy Nayak | Forever suspicious Copyrights by Study.com

Pascal's Law and Hydraulic Brake System - Definition, Experiment, Advantages, Applications

04:47
Pascal's Law The Pascal's law states that if pressure is applied at any one point in an enclosed liquid, that pressure is equally transmitted in all directions within the liquid. This means that if pressure is applied at one point in a liquid kept in a container, all the surfaces of the liquid exert the same amount of pressure on the walls of the container. Pascal's Law Formula: ΔP = ρgΔh Hydraulic Brake System Hydraulic types of brakes are very efficient and long lasting, as a fluid is used to transmit the pressure applied on the brakes to the wheels, and the elasticity of fluids doesn't get lost over time, thus these brakes are better than the common breaks used in vehicles. View full lesson: https://ed.ted.com/lessons/how-do-solar-panels-work-richard-komp The Earth intercepts a lot of solar power: 173,000 terawatts. That’s 10,000 times more power than the planet’s population uses. So is it possible that one day the world could be completely reliant on solar energy? Richard Komp examines how solar panels convert solar energy to electrical energy. Lesson by Richard Komp, animation by Globizco.
