18 Most Haunting Images From Under the Sea
You won't believe what is actually captured in photos deep underwater from yoga with a stingray to mysterious abandoned boats 9. Deadly Blue Hole This enormous hole on the ocean floor in known as ‘Dean’s Blue Hole’ and is the world’s deepest known saltwater blue hole that has an entrance below sea level. It is 202 meters deep and is located in a bay just west of Clarence Town on Long Island in the Bahamas. It certainly gives me goosebumps just looking at it, and I wouldn’t want to fall into it. 8. Scary Giant Squid One of the most daunting and intimidating sea creatures of them all is the giant squid, which can grow to a massive size because of deep-sea gigantism. According to recent estimates, the giant squid females can grow to lengths of 43 feet, or 13 meters, and the males grow up to 33 feet, or 10 meters, from the tip of the tentacles to the posterior fins. That is as large as an average yacht! Can you say deep sea nightmare? 7. Yoga with a Giant Stingray While it may look like the stingray is smiling, and that the swimmer is doing calming yoga, the beauty of this picture is how dangerous what the swimmer is doing actually is. Contact with a stingray’s stinger could mean death for this swimmer. The large fish, and the contrast of how small the human is in comparison, makes this one of the most breathtaking underwater interaction pictures. Also, it is pretty impressive how the swimmer is holding that beautiful pose with the giant stingray just feet away. 6. Creepy Wall of Seaweed No, this is not an optical illusion. That’s right, what you are seeing in this picture is tons of giant seaweed in the rolling waves. Yes, seaweed, like what sushi is wrapped in. But this form of seaweed is far less edible and far more sinister. People die every year from getting caught in its sliminess, causing them to drown as a result. Typically, seaweed isn’t considered as dangerous as a shark, but have you ever had that feeling of something under the water brushing up against you that makes you want to jump out of your skin? That is exactly what you get with this seaweed. 5. Abandoned Submarine The ocean floor doesn’t just have creepy animals, but also some creepy leftovers from humans. There is something so creepy about swimming around the remains of an old ship, or in this case, a giant abandoned submarine. Around the submarine, you will find giant jellyfish and big fish, but that is not the biggest concern for divers. Getting caught in the massive boat’s propeller would spell out certain death. It would probably be best to stick to coral reefs and sharks. 4. The Shadowing Shark What could be more pleasant than a day out on your kayak paddling through crystal clear turquoise waters? Well, this unassuming fella clearly thought the same thing. But what he doesn’t know is that there is danger lurking just feet from him, which could have resulted in a lethal attack. This situation is exactly how many people who are killed by sharks happen to die – when they are least expecting it. We would be high-tailing it out of there as fast as we could paddle. 3. Creepy Ocean Bug So the Goblin Shark and the Wolffish may be terribly ugly looking things, even by sea creature standards, but this gigantic sea bug really takes the cake. It has officially been called a giant isopod, and it certainly is a giant. While this creepy creature may not be as delicious as a sea bream or red snapper, this fisherman looks quite happy with himself for catching the big crustacean. 2. Shark Face Just this picture alone is enough to make anyone question going for a swim in the ocean. Of course, the first thing that comes to mind is the dramatic and intense cello music and the unsuspecting swimmer being dragged to the depths of the ocean to become dinner for one of these sharp-toothed creatures. The scariest part is just how calm the top of the water looks, making it even more real that this shark could be swimming near you and you wouldn’t even know it. Brave the open ocean… if you dare! 1. Creepy Bubble Formation Water is an interesting substance, allowing for creepy displays when air comes into contact with it. Imagine scuba diving along the ocean bed only to look up and see what appears to be a bubble man. It would give any of us the heebie-jeebies, especially knowing what other creatures share the water.

Did N.O.A.A Confirm The Existence Of Sea Monsters?
Support Us On Patreon: https://www.patreon.com/MysteryHistory We Are Also On Steemit: https://steemit.com/@mysteryhistory Julia, is the name given to the unknown source of a sound recorded on March 1, 1999. It was recorded on the eastern equatorial Pacific, using an autonomous hydrophone array. Heard for many thousands of kilometres, the source of the sound has been largely dismissed as an iceberg running aground somewhere off of Antarctica, it’s the point of origin being somewhere between Bransfield Straits and Cape Adare. What gave this story a rather chilling twist however, is a classified image which later surfaced, a classified image later redacted, taken by a NASA satellite, which shows something with an enormous shadow, within the waters of Cape Adare at the time, which if confirmed as a living animal, would be classified as a sea monster of gigantic proportions. The USA’s National Oceanic and Atmospheric Administrations, or the NOAA for short, have captured and subsequently released, a number of mysterious sounds of possible underwater monsters over the past few years. The Upsweep is an unidentified sound detected on the American NOAA's equatorial autonomous hydrophone arrays. This sound was present when the Pacific Marine Environmental Laboratory began recording its sound surveillance system, SOSUS, in August, 1991. It consists of a long train of narrow-band upsweeping sounds of several seconds in duration each. The source level was high enough to be recorded throughout the Pacific. The sound appears to be seasonal, generally reaching peaks in spring and autumn, but it is unclear why. The source can be roughly located at 54°S 140°W, which is near the location of volcanic activity, but the origin of the sound remains a mystery. The Whistle, recorded in the Mariana volcanic arc of the Pacific ocean, but since it was only recorded on one hydrophone, rather than the three required to triangulate a location, it is considered "unidentified. Bloop is the name given to an ultra-low-frequency and extremely powerful underwater sound detected by the U.S. National Oceanic and Atmospheric Administration in 1997. The sound's source was roughly triangulated to a remote point in the south Pacific Ocean west of the southern tip of South America, and the sound was detected several times. According to the NOAA description, it rises in frequency rapidly over the duration of one minute, and was of sufficient amplitude to be heard on multiple sensors, at a range of over 5,000 km. Dr. Christopher Fox does not believe its origin to be man-made, such as a submarine or bomb, nor is it familiar to geological events such as volcanoes or earthquakes. The audio profile of Bloop does indeed resemble that of a living creature, yet the source is a mystery both because it is different from any known sounds and because it was several times louder than the loudest ever recorded animal, the blue whale. Slow Down is name given to another mysterious deep sea sound, recorded on May 19, 1997, in the Equatorial Pacific Ocean, name was chosen because the sound slowly decreases in frequency over a duration of 7 minutes. It was recorded using an autonomous hydrophone array. The sound has been picked up several times each year since 1997. And finally, the Train is the name given to a sound recorded on March 5, 1997 on the Equatorial Pacific Ocean autonomous hydrophone array. The sound rises to a quasi-steady frequency, what is especially interesting about this sounds is its origins, which are also within Cape Adare, the same general location as Julia. Could some of these sounds be the mating calls of unknown sea monsters? Maybe one day. We will find out… https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/List_of_unexplained_sounds

10 STRANGE Deep Sea Photos Explained
From a suicide squid squad, to the eery findings deep under the Australian Great Barrier Reef, these are 10 STRANGE Deep Sea Photos Explained Under the Reef Let’s head back to Australia’s Great Barrier Reef for this one … actually, we’re heading under the Reef. Researchers came away with some incredible pictures of deep sea creatures when high-tech cameras were able to examine environments some 1500 meters (nearly 5000 feet) below the surface. Scary-looking deep-sea anglerfish, swarms of crustaceans and deep sea jellyfish Atolla were among the many strange forms of ocean life found over the course of the 10 day research project. When this bizarre looking deep sea creature washed up on a New Zealand beach earlier in 2016, people didn’t know what to make of it. The 13-foot animal’s disturbing, black dinner-plate-sized eyes and humped back gave a few tourists a shock … but some maintained their composure long enough to take a picture of the creature … or with the creature! While the sea creature may have unusual looks, it’s not exactly an unusual creature. It’s a bigeye thresher shark, known to hunt offshore, but are rarely observed close to beaches. The animals use their long tail to stun prey, but aren’t considered a threat to humans. There are three species of thresher shark, and all have been listed as ‘vulnerable to extinction’ since 2007. Acorn Worm -- A six-week research project in 2010 set out to investigate marine life forms along the mid-Atlantic ridge … it’s a sub-polar front where warm waters from the south meets cold waters from the Gulf Stream. The exploration yielded a vast array of sea life and many potential new species. This Acorn Worm (aka Enteropneust Hemichordate anter-ope-nee-ist (heem-mah-chore-date) was photographed with a Remote Operated Vehicle, which located the creature using its adhesive tentacles to attach itself to the seafloor. The picture by David Shale almost looks like the worm could be a flower blossoming from its stem underwater. Acorn Worms are invertebrates that can survive at depths of 10,000 feet below the ocean surface. Deep Sea Anemone -- Does it look like a trap is waiting to be sprung … like if you get too close to the center of this thing, those tentacles will suddenly rise up and imprison you? You’re not far wrong. Say hello to the sea anemone … an invertebrate carnivore named after the terrestrial anemone flower, due to the perceived resemblance. They spend most of their time attached to rocks on the seafloor. They’ll also attach themselves to coral reefs waiting for fish to pass by. Those tentacles are actually filled with venom, which will paralyze prey the anemone ensnares. While most anemones are harmless to humans, certain highly toxic species are potentially lethal. Did you know that depending on the species, sea anemones can live more than 50 years? Big Red -- Bet you wouldn't guess this is a jellyfish. This relatively new species was discovered in the Pacific Ocean in 2003 … but was first spotted 10 years earlier. Only 23 members of this species have been found, with only a very small specimen acquired for study. The creatures are known to grow up to 30 inches in diameter and live at ocean depths of nearly 5000 feet. Because they live at such extreme depths, remote operated submarines were used to take pictures and high-resolution videos of the creatures. What really makes them distinct from other species of jellyfish is the lack of long tentacles … this creature has four-to-seven thick, fleshy arms it uses to capture food and eat. While scientists know the jellyfish is red all over, it could take awhile before researchers can uncover more information pertaining to the animal's food, predators, reproduction and so on. Here’s a fun fact … researchers were originally going to call the animal “Big Ugly” … but it was renamed “Gran rojo” … Spanish for Big Red. Think this picture of a Beluga whale looks strange? He sounded even stranger. This is Noc, a whale that could actually mimic human speech. His voice was so human-like that it often fooled divers … and made researchers believe the marine mammal was trying to make contact with his human friends. It’s thought that Noc began making human-like sounds after hearing divers using their communication equipment underwater. After hearing Noc, scientists at the National Marine Mammal Foundation in San Diego tried to pick up more voices by building a special underwater listening platform. While Noc could be heard on the mic, the other two older whales who lived with him didn’t seem as eager to communicate. Sorry to say that after 30 years at the national Marine Mammal Foundation, Noc passed away in 2007. Fish Corals and Models Star in Underwater Red Sea Photo Challenge
Dozens of underwater photographers film fish, corals and fashion models in the Eilat Red Sea competition. Full story: Dozens of underwater photographers compete for the top spot in this year's Eilat Red Sea shootout. The unique photo contest challenges photographers to combine diving technique and artistic expression. For three days, photographers focus their lenses on fish, fashion and shipwrecks in the Gulf of Eilat. The winning photos cannot be altered in any way—and first place takes home a US $10,000 prize. While Eilat isn't the most popular diving destination in the world, competition organizer David Pilosof says it's ideal for the contest. [David Pilosof, Producer fo Eilat Red Sea Competition]: "Eilat is considered I would say the best spot, or the best dive destination for such a competition because the dive sites that the competitors have to go, they don't need boats or other vehicles to go to. They just step off the beach and they are there." Photographers spent hours searching the seabed for exotic creatures. And some brought the beauty to the sea - which posed its own challenges. Models needed to take gulps of air from a scuba tank held by another diver in between takes and directions could only be given by hand signals. Contestant Mark Fuller took first prize for the Five Best Images category. [Mark Fuller, Contestant and Winner]: "We are in the water doing five times a day, so you're wet the whole day, it's cold at night. You don't sleep very much in the night, because you're constantly thinking about what you are going to do. So it's a lot of pressure if you're taking it really seriously. Very tiring. But it's worth it when you win the prize." A lot of work to capture one moment in time. Shocking photos show helpless sea creatures CHAINED inside underwater cages
SHOCKING photos have emerged showing sea animals chained up inside underwater cages. Divers swimming near the remote island of Kokoya, Indonesia stumbled upon two cages on the seabed where two rare dugongs were trapped. The marine mammals appeared to be a mother and her calf, the divers said, adding that they had been caught by local fishermen hoping to profit by allowing tourists to take photos with the trapped creatures. One of the divers, Delon Lim, revealed that the mother and baby were being held in separate cages. Lim told animal welfare website The Dodo that the while the younger creature was at least able to swim inside its cage, the mother’s movement was restricted by a huge rope. The wear and tear on the rope and the scars on the mother’s tail suggested the animals had been chained for several weeks by the fishermen. "He asked for some money if we want to see the dugong or take a picture," Lim said, explaining that the animals were likely being used as tourist attraction. Incredibly Lim and a fellow diver managed to convince the fishermen to let the animals free. “When we left the island, the fisherman agreed to release them...But since we were not so convinced he would, I posted the video to social media,” he said. The social media messages alerted the attention of animal welfare authorities who arrived on the island the following day and found the mother and her baby still trapped. They were finally set free later that day.

13 WEIRDEST Undersea Creatures
From predatory tunicates, to the weirdest looking jellyfish EVER, these are 13 WEIRDEST Undersea Creatures ! Can you believe this is actually a jellyfish? This bizarre creature was found in the Mariana Trench in the western Pacific Ocean, during a deepwater exploration mission … at a depth of 3,700 meters! The orb-like creature resembles a shiny holiday decoration. The red color is thought to be its radial canals and the shiny yellow might be its gonads. The animal appeared to be floating through the deep waters, with its bell motionless, and its tentacles extended … suggesting an ambush-predatory mode. While able to identify its genus (jenn-us), experts are still unable to assign a precise name to the jellyfish. What should they call it? Cannonball Jellyfish -- You can probably guess how this creature got its name … just look at that cannonball shape. A few years ago, a new species of the creature was found in the Gulf of California … A blue cannonball. You can get a good look at it in the picture by Liza Gomez Daglio. Its bright coloration shows up in vivid contrast to its surroundings. Their dome-shaped bells can measure around 10 inches in diameter. Looking underneath the bell, you can make out a cluster of appendages that extend outwards around the mouth … the appendages help the creature propel itself and to catch prey. This is a scorpion fish … but this photograph by K. Pecci appears to make the creature look like it’s on fire! The brilliant orange coloration almost makes it look like a demonic goldfish. But its scary appearance actually helps it hide in seaweed where it waits for prey. If you look closely, you can make out the animal’s eyes and mouth. Not so easy to discern are its sharp spines, which are coated with a toxic mucus. The Scorpionfish family includes some of most venomous species in the world. Fireworms -- With their long, flattened appearance and multiple segments, these creatures can resemble centipedes … and grow up to 30 centimeters long. Its colors can range from green to red to pearly white They’re found in tropical coastal waters of the Atlantic Ocean and often favor marine environments like corals, rocks and mud. It’s also known as a bearded fireworm due to its bristles. When flared, the bristles can penetrate human skin and inject a powerful neurotoxin, which can cause dizziness and nausea. In 2012, British scientists found a lost world of marine life hidden almost 8,000 feet on the seafloor off the coast of Antarctica. Anemones and barnacles were found living on top of hydrothermal vents … which are undersea volcanoes pumping out black smoke, and causing temperatures to rise to 380 degrees Celsius … which is hot enough to melt lead. Among the two dozen new species found there were huge heaps of Yeti crabs, numbering up to 600 in some spots … along with what is believed to be an entirely new species of octopus. Some of the creatures were so close to the vents that burn marks were visible on their shells. Temperatures are boiling in the immediate vicinity of the vent … but cool down to around 20 degrees Celsius a few hundred meters away … and that’s where the animals congregate. Experts say the creatures live in complete darkness, and break down toxic chemicals found in the smoke to obtain their energy. Stalked Medusa Jellyfish -- In this picture by Allen Collins, the creature looks kind of like a giant orange claw. But it’s actually a mere 2 centimeters long! It was found off the California coast. The stalk-like shape on the left is actually the ‘bottom’ of the creature … in comparison to other jellyfish, these animals appear to be oriented upside down, with the tentacles -- which you can see to the right -- projecting upwards. Acorn Worm -- This creature was found in the Marianas Trench Marine National Monument area near Guam and Saipan in the Pacific ocean. There’s around 90 species of this invertebrate animal around the world. They live deep in the ocean, on the seafloor, and move slowly. If you look closely at the photo from the NOAA (National Oceanic and Atmospheric Administration), you can see the animal’s proboscis (pro-boss-is) , which is shaped like an acorn … and inspires its name. Along with the fleshy collar and long, worm-like trunk, this is the typical anatomy displayed by acorn worms. Did you know these creatures have hundreds of gill slits that they use for breathing? 19 INCREDIBLY Colorful Sea Creatures
From Nemo, the clownfish, to the beautiful and elusive Blue Sea Slug, these are 19 INCREDIBLY Colorful Sea Creatures ! 8. Blue Tang -- Undersea creatures seem to look really cool in blue … and this one is no exception. The Blue Tang shows off some amazing blue coloration complemented by bold black markings. It almost sounds like a fashion shows, right? These fish are usually found in Indo-Pacific waters and are actually bright yellow when they’re younger. The blue and black colors show up at their final phase of development. 7. Coral -- Is that a brain at the bottom of the ocean? No … but it is a brain coral … and just an example of the wide ranging variety of living coral and coral reefs, some of which are thought to have started growing over 50 million years ago. Contrary to some beliefs, coral are animals, not plants … they’re actually related to anemones and jellyfish. The reefs formed by coral provide housing for thousands of marine species, giving them a place to find food, reproduce, and keep them safe until they’re mature enough to venture into the deeper ocean. Did you know coral reef plants and animals have proven important to the development of new medicines to treat cancer, Alzheimer's and heart disease? But even with all those advantages, human activity is threatening almost 60 percent of the world’s coral reefs. 6. Flower Hat Jellyfish -- This rare species of jellyfish is a rare species usually found in the waters of southern japan, Argentina and Brazil. It can grow to a half-foot in diameter, and is easily recognizable by its translucent bell, which is pinstriped with opaque bands. Those coiling tentacles adhere to the rim while not in use. Like many pretty looking things, this jelly carries a sting … but even though it’s painful, it’s non-lethal to humans … the worst you’d get is a rash. 5. Blue Sea Slug -- We couldn’t find a lot of information on this critter. From what we’ve seen, it’s often identified as a Blue Sea Slug … but that sounds like a pedestrian name for such a colorful creature. You can see the brilliant blue coloration in this photo … the animal almost looks like an alien life form with the two antennae sticking up. We’re guessing it might be a Nudibranch (new-di-brank). Those mollusks are noted for their striking colors, and there are more than 2,300 validated species scattered about the world. Can you confirm that? Let us know in the comments! 4. Mantis Shrimp -- They’re one of the most colorful forms of marine life, but don’t be fooled. They’re also known as ferocious undersea predators that possess, pound for pound, one of the most powerful punches on the planet. Punching with speed equal to a .22 caliber bullet, the Mantis Shrimp has not only broken shells of its prey … it’s also broken through aquarium glass. Punching at that velocity makes water vaporize and explode with a sharp bang, a flash of light and extremely high heat, all of which is felt by the victim as an additional blast. Not bad for an animal that averages less than four inches long. 3. Juvenile Emperor Angelfish -- Their coloration will change with age … but while they’re young, they exhibit these amazing displays of swirling dark blue, white and electric blue. It almost look hypnotic, right? Well, the fish keeps these distinct patterns until it reaches maturity, which usually takes around 4 years. Then the fish develops blue and yellow stripes, and black shading around its eyes. 2. https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Amphiprioninae Clownfish -- Did you recognize them from “Finding Nemo”? Known as one of the most brightly colored fish in the world, their bodies have distinctive white striping with colors that can vary from red, orange or yellow. They’re also known as anemone fishes, because of their mutually beneficial relationship with sea anemones. The toxic tentacles of the anemones protect clownfish from predators. And the fast movement of the fishes helps anemones find food and increase circulation. 1. The Mandarinfish -- Also known as the “Mandarin Dragonet” it swims in the Pacific reefs … but it’s less than 3 inches long so it can be difficult to see in the wild. As you might guess, this fish is highly sought after in the aquarium trade … but they’re considered extremely difficult to their strict eating habits. Some people think the Mandarinfish might be the most beautiful fish in the world … would you agree? to Epic Wildlife http://goo.gl/6rzs5u Let's Connect -- http://www.epicadamwildlife.com/ -- http://www.facebook.com/epicadamwildlife -- http://www.twitter.com/epicwildlife -- http://gplus.to/epicwildlife

Lost City Of Atlantis Found In North Sea?
Support Us On Patreon: https://www.patreon.com/MysteryHistory We Are Also On Steemit: https://steemit.com/@mysteryhistory Divers from oil companies located within the north sea, have been discovering the remains of a drowned ancient city which once spanned from the UK all the way to Denmark. An ancient city so massive its suspected population has been estimated well into the tens of thousands. A team of climatologists, archaeologists and geophysicists, have now successfully mapped the area, which has revealed just how vast and expansive this once 'lost land once was, many specialists are now claiming this was once the 'real heartland' of Europe. This enormous civilization is now believed to have dated back to some 8000 years ago, and that the land mass was submerged over a period of several thousand years, a submersion which began some 20,000 years prior. Dr Richard Bates of the Department of Earth Sciences at St Andrews, who organised the Drowned Landscapes exhibit, covering the finds within the UK, says the data reveals the human story behind Doggerland, a now submerged city of the North Sea that was once larger than many modern European countries. Could these discoveries reveal doggerland as the real lost city of Atlantis? Several hypotheses have placed the sunken island of Atlantis within modern northern Europe, most noted among such researchers is Olaus Rudbeck. Who suspected that Doggerland, as well as Viking Bergen Island, which is thought to have been flooded by a megatsunami following the Storegga slide in 6100 BC, is the real location of Atlantis, a proposition he put forward all the way back in the 16 hundreds. Some have proposed the Celtic Shelf as a possible location, and that there is certainly links to Ireland. Many places have been put forward for the possible location of the sunken city throughout the years, yet none have revealed ruins worthy of such claims, many of these areas being too small to have housed such an enormous city. Doggerland however, fits the bill, not only could it turn out to be the largest ancient civilization found on earth, but it also rests in a possible location, based on historical research, for the city of Atlantis, it was submerged at one point in its history, and it is revealing astonishing ruins of a once great and presently unknown civilization. Dr Bates, a geophysicist, said: ‘Doggerland was the real heartland of Europe until sea levels rose to give us the UK coastline of today. ‘We have speculated for years on the lost land's existence from bones dredged by fishermen all over the North Sea, but it's only since working with oil companies in the last few years that we have been able to re-create what this lost land looked like. ‘When the data was first being processed, I thought it unlikely to give us any useful information, however as more area was covered, it revealed a vast and complex landscape. ‘We have now been able to model its flora and fauna, build up a picture of the ancient people that lived there, and begin to understand some of the dramatic events that subsequently changed the land, including the sea rising and a devastating tsunami.’ The research project is a collaboration between St Andrews and the Universities of Aberdeen, Birmingham, Dundee and Wales Trinity St David. http://thesecretlandofatlantis.weebly.com/

Shark Bites Fiber Optic Cables Undersea 15.8.2014
Google is reinforcing its underwater fibre-optic cables to protect against future shark attacks Google is reinforcing its private underwater fibre-optic cables with an extra layer of protective material in order to protect its 100,000 miles of cables from sharks. Sharks and other fish are attracted to the cables, thought by some to be due to the electromagnetic signals emitted by the lines, but they are easily damaged. The cables already have existing protective materials designed to shelter them from the various dangers of the environment, but will now be coated with a 'Kevlar-like' material to provide even more protection. Fibre-optic cables are made of strands of glass, and are thus much less durable than copper cables. Google wants to prevent its own cables from sustaining further damage after seeing underwater surveillance footage of sharks biting the cables. IT Pro has contacted Google for more information on the plans and will update the story as soon as we know more.
