He's shopping for dark washed jeans at different price points including designer. The Review 1. American Eagle ($59 each but buy-one-get-one 1/2 off) - he purchases both non-distress extreme flex wash which is is super comfortable & AWESOME as well as the the distressed pair. Great deal! 2. 7 For All Mankind ($248) - they were crazy super long and super stretchy. He really disliked them, and $248 is too expensive. 3. Diesel ($225) - Thommer distressed style fit great. These are the most expensive pair of jeans he ever purchased (which is a downside), but the pair reminds him of his favorite Jack Threads slim fit jeans. 4. J Brand ($178) - Hood non-distressed dark wash are the MOST comfortable & soft jeans he's ever put on. They are slim through the legs, the front is flat, and fly lays nice & clean. 5. GAP ($69 regularly but on sale for $39) - slim fit stretch denim is incredibly comfortable but does not have as much stretch as American Eagle. The price is the best part. He picks these jeans as the best because they're age appropriate, they have the best selection of washes, and they're not real trendy. 6. Levis ($74) - two way stretch advanced technology are solid & quality jeans, but he's not in love with these as much as the other jeans.

SUBSCRIBE TO OUR CHANNEL: http://hypb.st/PpLFal In the fashion world, the idea of collaboration has been overused and recycled time and time again. But in our eyes, there still exist many exciting opportunities to collaborate and rethink how two parties should join forces. In our Denim Canvas project with Levi's®, we asked two partnering talents -- largely unknown to one another and without prior relationships -- to come up with reappropriations on some of Levi's® most iconic pieces such as the Trucker Jacket, the 501® jean and the Western Shirt. Each pair was given just one day without any prior planning to put together a unique concept and apply it as such on a Levi's® icon. U.S. Alteration founder Miggy found a keen interest in working with classic silhouettes through the creative lens of a domestic production story. Miggy has long been involved with the foundation of Los Angeles' De La Barracuda, and as such is an integral part of the local fashion and cultural scene. U.S. Alteration's pairing with Jay Palmer of Tangleblue brought together two visionaries setting out to provide a modern context to classic garb. San Francisco-based Tangleblue were a mainstay over the course of the month on the Levi's® Station to Station tour and provided an intimate look at reusing old scraps to create something imperfectly beautiful for the present day. For our second Denim Canvas project, Miggy and Jay took hand-woven fabrics from Tangleblue and integrated them with the ever-iconic 501, with a unique style and approach that reflects facets of both talents. Aligning with the desire to explore the relationship that exists between creativity and discovery through collaboration, under both modern and classical terms #MakeOurMark has find significant relevance with the Hypebeast x Levi's® Denim Canvas project. People have been claiming that Levi’s jeans are have decreased in quality in the past few years. In this video, we’ll explore some of the reasons why this may be the case. We’ll also explore 2 “secret” collections, Levi’s vintage clothing, and Levi’s Made and Crafted that still offer a ton of quality and value! More info below! Instagram: https://www.instagram.com/the.mensch/?hl=en Newest Blog Post: https://www.themensch.me/home/5-ways-to-look-taller Quality usually takes a hit when you move production overseas to cut down on labor costs. Levi’s used to make all of their jeans in the US, which would keep a very strict emphasis on quality control. Fabric: Levi’s used to work closely with the White Oak Cone Mills, and for a long time all their jeans were made of White Oak denim. Aside from the mills closing at the end of 2018, if you look at the product pages, they aren’t disclosing where their denim comes from. Especially with denim, if they aren't specifically showing off the origin of the denim, whether it be American, Japanese, or Italian, it is most likely not high quality! How could Levi’s possibly compete with brands that are making high quality jeans at a fraction of the price? They can’t. Banana Republic, J. Crew, 7 for All Mankind, Joe’s Jeans, AG, Bonobos, GAP, H&M - ALL OF THESE BRANDS PRODUCE THEIR JEANS OVERSEAS!!! It seems crazy to me but most people do not know of 2 “secret” collections by Levi’s that are incredible and that pay homage to own heritage! 1. Levi’s Vintage Clothing - Opening up their archives and making new designs, or remaking stitch for stitch, their own jeans - which in my opinion is as cool as it gets. 2. Made and Crafted - These new design made with elevated details, like Selvedge Denim from Japan, Italy, USA, and leather patches Overall Levi’s is always going to be an iconic american heritage brand, but for those of you who care a lot about quality and craftsmanship, take a look at Vintage Clothing and M&C! Let me know in the comments if you love Levi's as much as i do or please share your Levi’s stories below if you have a pair of jeans you feel absolutely inseparable from.

Based in ITaly, Leopoldo is a designer and developer for denim brands and is a veteran with over 25 years of experience. He has been associated with some of the most reputed companies in the industry including See by Chloe, Martelli , Evisu, Hellenic Fabrics, Benetton, Sixty Spa, Versace , Mustang and others and extended his designer expertise to them. He is currently running his own brand - Care Label besides being Artistic Director for Meltin Pot . He made a live video presentation at our show on 3rd March,2016 regarding the expected denim trends for AW’17 in the three regions of US, EU and Asia. This was the first time such a live presentation was made in denim shows anywhere and brought out the touch of technology to the field of fashion forecasting . The Synopsis of his presentation is as follows : His focus was on three regions : USA , Europe and Asia. Where US brands are focused on celebrities denim , the Europe is obsessed with designer denim and Asia is more inclined towards Vintage denim. In the US the market is focused on women’s wear. The market is not focused on quality but on celebrities who wear denim. And they call it premium. But he feels it’s not true. It’s not premium . He calls it Pants. The situation in Europe is more focused on the design. It’s about designers and not about brands. There are French luxury brands and historic denim brands. Diesel is moving from pure denim to designer denim. He also has his own brand. Europeans add things like Swarovski. They do strong washing. Asia is focused on vintage. Asia, Europe and the US have a different approach to the denim market. Asia is more focused on tradition, heavy fabrics, non stretch fabrics, classic looks. They use selvedge and rigid ones. This is particularly true of the Japanese market. Future Denim : From Manufacturing to Washing . In future denim and jeans will be back to their roots. Fabrics will be heavy and not super stretch. We will have real denim made on a shuttle loom, even selvage. Stretch will be on the warp and not the weft to guarantee comfort. Color is in the direction of natural green indigo. The cast will be darkest. Environment will be the watchword. Water consumption and chemical use will decrease. We are going back to pumice stone wash. Strong washes will be out. No more bleaches. Washing will decrease the number of whiskers. Washing will be done by the customer and not by the laundry. The market will move from the American concept of super stretch and skinny fit to a more traditional look. Future trends will be a mix of tradition, value, beauty, the culture of Europe, Asia and the US. The future will be a combination of these three points of view.

I hate to begin the year this way, but I simply couldn't let this event pass without doing something. Cone Mills White Oak plant in North Carolina closed on December 31st 2017, marking the end of denim production in the United States. White Oak employed 2,500 people at its height, yet only 200 were left when it closed. This may be your last chance to own some 100% made in America denim. Its a shame this happened, I hope the people of Greensboro North Carolina who worked at the Cone Mills White Oak plant are able to find employment and carry on with their lives in a positive way. -Would you like to see a brand or product reviewed? Ginew is just one of these brands where you see the garments, meet the people behind the brand and you are instantly hooked. There is just something intrinsically genuine about the people and the products. Family Owned, Historically Inspired Owned and operated by husband and wife Erik and Amanda, Ginew makes what they refer as "heirloom goods". Meaning that what they craft can be handed down from generation to generation. This inherent feeling of quality throughout their collection stems from the roots of the brand and of Eric and Amanda themselves. Coming from Ojibwe, Oneida and Mohican heritage they pull together elements of their family's history of craft in professions such as blacksmiths, farmers, machinists and welders and channel this narrative to inspire a collection of garments and accessories.

Sugar Cane clothing Japan SC41947 1947 blue denim jeans. (No sound on this video.) 14.25 oz. Red selvedge. Non-wash (unwashed, raw, dry). Reproductions of 1947 Levi's 501, the definitive denim. These are arguably the closest 501 vintage reproductions, certainly closer than Levi's own versions. This is an earlier edition with red tab and broken arcuate double stitching. I got them deadstock three years ago.

♡ NO NEED TO BUY NEW JEANS JUST MAKE YOUR OWN FRAYED HEM ♡ This is a quick and easy DIY. One of the biggest trends when it comes to Demin lately has been the Frayed/Destroyed/Raw hem. Why not just create your own instead of buying a brand new pair? It's fairly easy, all you need is a good pair of scissors, tweezers, a smaller pair of scissors and of course a good denim jeans. I love my jeans to have a long fringe at the bottom that makes it extra grungy so that's what I did but it's totally up to you decide what you prefer and customize your denim jeans to your desired result ! See more Volcom Brand Jeans at http://www.volcom.com/jeans As part of our New Future program, our V.Co-Logical Series represents Volcom's environmentally conscious movement towards sustainability and 1% of every dollar customers spend in this category goes to select environmental protection organizations by way of our 1% for the planet membership. For Fall 12 we brought together our premium quality Volcom Brand Jeans with our environmentally conscious V.Co-Logical efforts-- 1. Renewed Selvage Denim (100% USA Made): The existing Cone Selvedge denim used to produce these jeans was made in the USA at the White Oak factory in North Carolina. By renewing old premium / limited denim in a way that is giving new value to an existing product, this program helps us lower our environmental impact. In addition these jeans have been cut and sewn in the USA, making them 100% USA made. 2. Water Saving & Chemical Free Denim: Our most environmentally conscious denim to date. The wash used to create these save an estimated 17 gallons of water per jean, resulting in a 94% decrease in the amount of water used compare to conventional methods. Furthermore, by using ozone bleaching and laser finishing, when compared to more conventional methods, a 100% reduction of chemicals used in the wash of these jeans make them easier on the environment and on the people finishing them. 3. Organic Cotton Denim: These jeans contain 100% organic cotton. Organic cotton is grown without toxic chemicals and utilizes biological pest control methods, relying on natural fertilizers to dramatically reduce the crop's environmental impact.

The US apparel industry is large, mature, and highly fragmented. This industry has stretched the boundaries of its creativity and imagination to find new ways to increase selling opportunities and achieve competitive edge globally. The global economic downturn has had a severe effect over the apparel industry, but the denim market has regained its pace relatively faster as compared to other apparel segments. Denim jeans have become a necessity and wardrobe staple as it offers comfort and a longer life span compared to other types of apparel. Jeans can be worn on different kinds of social and even official occasions. Over the years, denim has revealed its capability to overcome age and gender barriers. In the US, denim is the most extensively produced and used apparel. The growth of denim category is further fuelled by the growth in premium denim market. The market is projected to grow further in years to come due to economic, social and demographic trends. The denim jeans market in the US is highly consolidated as famous brands like Levi's, Lee and Wrangler holds a large part of total market share. Though the words “Japanese clothing” are perhaps most likely to conjure up images of items such as traditional kimono, two-toed workman’s boots and wooden geta clogs, Japan’s modern status as a fashion leader has brought other types of garment to the fore. One category for which Japan has established a particularly good reputation since the latter half of the 20th century is denim, with several Japanese brands making great waves on the global stage, and other workshops offering superlative fabric-processing techniques to the world's top manufacturers. The place of pilgrimage for any fan of Japanese denim is the laid-back town of Kojima in Okayama Prefecture, Western Japan, on the banks of the Seto Inland Sea. For centuries the town was known for the production and dyeing of cotton fabrics, particularly using aizome, traditional Japanese indigo dyeing techniques. In the early 20th century, with the nation in the throes of rapid modernization, local producers shifted their emphasis to school uniforms. But in the 1960s, with a small number of large firms starting to dominate the schoolwear sector, one plant in Kojima decided to embark on a new adventure with denim, a fabric that had been introduced by the occupying US forces in the years that followed World War II. They released the first Japan-made jeans in 1965, produced using denim imported from the USA, and key features of the rest of the Japanese jeans story are covered in the show. In the 1960s, for people of Peter's generation, jeans came to be associated with rebellious attitudes that were closely tied to the golden years of rock & roll. For teenagers (then a new concept) and students, such fashion also became linked with political protest. In fact, in this edition of Japanology Plus, Peter makes a reference to 1968, not only the zenith of hippie culture (bellbottoms) but also a peak year for student protests in various cities around the world including Paris and Tokyo. One thing linking youthful rebels with a cause everywhere was a penchant for blue jeans. Denim came originally from the French city Nimes ("serge de Nimes"), and it seems that "jeans" derives from Genoa, where denim was first made into trousers that were dyed blue using indigo. Jeans as we know them today can be traced to US manufacturers in the late 19th century. In the years since then, Japanese makers have made many innovations in denim production techniques, from the first stretch denim, to perfecting stonewashing and acid-washing techniques, and sanding jeans over a mold placed under the thigh area to create distinctive “hige” creases around the crotch, their name invoking the whiskers of a cat. In this week’s show we also see time-honored techniques such as aizome indigo dyeing. If you're planning a trip to Japan, you might like to try out this type of dyeing at one the many aizome taiken (hands-on) workshops dotted around the country. You won't be able to dye your denims, but you'll get an idea of the process, and you may well end up with your very own tie-dyed aizome handkerchief. https://www3.nhk.or.jp/nhkworld/en/tv/japanologyplus/program-20170302.html

As part of our New Future program, our V.Co-Logical Series represents Volcom's environmentally conscious movement towards sustainability and 1% of every dollar customers spend in this category goes to select environmental protection organizations by way of our 1% for the planet membership.

Anthony Bourdain and Premium Japanese Denim Brands: The Balcony Sessions This week we get a little serious, actually we get a lot serious. By now, I am sure most of you have hear about the suicide of Anthony Bourdain. It was a shock to all and I just wanted to take a couple of minutes to say a few words and reach out to anyone who is in dire straights. Just to say there are ways out. Taking your life is never the answer and there is help out there. Just reach out, only takes that one little step. I had a look online and I found this website with a comprehensive list of helplines. Please please please use it! List of International Helplines http://www.suicide.org/international-suicide-hotlines.html For our brothers and sister in the US http://www.suicide.org/index.html I believe that site is based in the USA, but there is a huge amount of great information on there about a range of topics. I would also like to draw attention to a series of shorts Anthony did with Whiskey makers, Balvenie. I really enjoyed all the shows he made but this series of short documentaries on craft was by far my favourite. Raw Craft takes a look at makers and artisans, people who are at the very pinnacle in their chosen craft. For lovers of quality and craftsmanship, it is a fascinating exploration. https://youtu.be/6ChPbdD3zDk We also get to some denim. “riyas m h” asked “Which are the most premium Japanese denim brand?”.... And I answer the question. Kinda.
