We saw it float out and on river Ems conveyance. Let's see the first part of the construction. The building of the Anthem of the Seas, the sister vessel of the Quantum of the Seas, commenced a few months ago, with the keel laying on 19th November 2013. Work will be completed upon delivery of the ship in the spring of 2015. As far as entertainment, engineering and safety are concerned, the Anthem of the Seas will be of an equal standard as its sister vessel, the Quantum of the Seas: Royal Caribbean International will also incorporate virtual balconies into the inside cabins of the second quantum-class ship, along with an unforgettable view from the ninety-metre-high ‘North Star‘ observation capsule, plus high-action entertainment such as bumper cars available in the SeaPlex multifunctional room along with simulated parachute jumping courtesy of the ‘RipCord by iFly‘. Guests of the Anthem of the Seas will also enjoy the company’s traditional attractions, such as the ‘FlowRider‘ surfing simulator. Once it has commenced service, the Anthem of the Seas will sail with its 4,100 passengers from Southampton (England) to Norway and the Mediterranean, before making its way from Fort Lauderdale (Florida) to the Caribbean in winter 2015. A third quantum-class ship has been ordered from the shipyard and is scheduled for delivery in 2016.

MS Ovation of the Seas From Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia is an upcoming cruise ship under construction by Meyer Werft in Papenburg, Germany, for Royal Caribbean International (RCI). The vessel will be the third ship in the Quantum class, which surpasses RCI's earlier Freedom-class ships by over 14,000 GT, becoming the second largest class of passenger ships behind RCI's Oasis class ships on a gross tonnage basis. On February 11, 2011, RCI announced that it had ordered a new class of ships from the Meyer Werft shipyard in Papenburg, Germany, the first of which was scheduled to be delivered by fall 2014. At the time, the project was code-named "Project Sunshine". On February 29, 2012, the company announced that a second "Project Sunshine" ship had been ordered and would be delivered by Spring 2015. Just under a year later, on January 31, 2013, RCI announced that the official name of the new class of ships was the Quantum class. Ovation of the Seas, the third vessel in the Quantum class, was laid down by Meyer Werft on March 5, 2015. Before the first piece of keel was lowered into place, Adam Goldstein, President and COO of Royal Caribbean Cruises Ltd., the holding company of RCI, placed a lucky coin in the dock. The keel will eventually be formed of 74 blocks. The first section was launched on 20 June 2015. Ovation of the Seas is scheduled to enter service in spring 2016. On Tuesday, Jun16, 2015, the illegal actions of Albanian authorities against EMS APO reached a new climax: While EMS APO started loading a vessel with chrome, staff members of rival stevedoring companies including their management occupied the terminal of EMS APO in order to stop the loading. For several months now the Durres Port Authority with the assistance of the Ministry of Transport is trying to squeeze EMS APO, a member of EMS-Fehn-Group, out of the business. EMS Albanian POrt Operator Shpk signed a contract with the Albanian state in 2013 in which the German owned company leases the East Terminal of the port of Durres. The terminal is mainly used for import and export of bulk cargo such as chrome, clinker and coal, but also for any other kind of cargo like break bulk, general cargo and project cargo (as the case may be). EMS APO already invested five million Euro into the infrastructure of the terminal. Over the last few months the director of the Durres Port Authority ordered EMS APO several times to stop all stevedoring activities and the stuffing of chrome into containers. At the same time the Durres Port Authority initiated numerous actions against EMS APO. „This is a blatant attempt to exterminate a company that painfully follows all Albanian laws, pays all rents and taxes on time and to the last penny“, says Manfred Müller, Managing Director of EMS APO and CEO of EMS-Fehn-Group. „There is not a single complaint by our customers and our staff is happy to work for EMS APO. In short: We did nothing wrong except of not paying bribes. We are already taking legal actions against DPA and the Ministry of Transportation. If Albanian courts do not protect binding contracts this will be a clear signal to all foreign companies that investments in Albania are not save.“

Norwegian Escape arrived safely at the Dutch port of Eemshaven on the North Sea early Saturday morning, following its conveyance along the Ems River from Meyer Werft at Papenburg, Germany. At Eemshaven, the ship will take on additional provisions and materials, and have its lifeboats installed, before leaving for sea trials that are expected to start on Thursday. Guided by tugs, the 164,600gt Norwegian Escape moved slowly along the river and through the locks stern-first, following the traditional safety procedure to maneuver large ships. As the ship left the Papenburg harbor, there was just 1.2 meters of clearance between the hull and the 'bumpers' that were installed along the starboard side of the yard's locks. The completion of Norwegian Escape’s river conveyance marks another key milestone in the ship’s highly anticipated delivery. Measuring 326 metres in length and more than 40 metres in width, the ship is the first in the line’s Breakaway Plus-Class. Three additional ships in the class are on order at Meyer Werft. “After seeing first-hand last week how spectacular Norwegian Escape already looks, I am thrilled that she is officially on her journey to welcome guests next month,” said Andy Stuart, President and Chief Operating Officer of Norwegian Cruise Line. “As the first Breakaway Plus-Class ship, she will offer the very best in freedom and flexibility for our guests and we cannot wait to officially welcome her to the fleet.” Sailing backwards, Norwegian Escape left Meyer Werft at approximately 2:00 pm (local time in Germany), and made a narrow passage through the ship yard’s locks, with only 1,2 meters clearance separating the ship from the “bumpers” that were specially installed along the starboard side of the locks. This very careful manoeuvre took approximately 2 hours at a maximum speed of only 0,2 knots. The precise navigation included a team of two located on the bridge, with one navigation officer in charge of overseeing the bow manoeuvres and the other overseeing the movement of the stern, led by experienced River Ems pilots. After passing through the locks, Norwegian Escape continued along the river, stern first. Due to the strong propulsion in the aft section of the vessel, traveling stern first helps with manoeuvrability, which is a key component when navigating the vessel through such narrow passages. Before reaching her final destination in Eemshaven, Netherlands on Saturday, September 19, Norwegian Escape passed through additional narrow passages including the Weener Bridge in Weener; Jann-Berghaus Bridge in Leer; and Ems-Barrier in Gandersum. In Eemshaven, the ship will take on additional provisions and materials to welcome guests in late October, before heading toward the North Sea for her sea trials later this month. Norwegian Escape, soon to be the largest ship in the Norwegian Cruise Line fleet, will sail weekly 7-night cruises from her year-round homeport of Miami to the Eastern Caribbean beginning on November 14, 2015. The 164.600 gross ton ship will be the largest ever to home port year-round in Miami, carrying 4.200 guests to tropical Caribbean destinations including St. Thomas, U.S. Virgin Islands; Tortola, British Virgin Islands and Nassau, Bahamas.

EMS Chartering, Leer, and EMS Log, Bremen, shipped a flue gas filter system from Germany to Ireland in December. Two 20 meters long reactors, each weighing 39 tons, were loaded into a barge in the port of Papenburg. Due to their dimensions with almost 6 meters in diameter they had to be transported via river to the port of Emden where they were loaded onto a seagoing vessel together with other items such as filters and converters. The system contains all in all 54 colli which will be shipped in two batches to Dublin.

The UK Coastguard received a Mayday call at 7.09pm on Sunday 6 December 2015 from a cargo vessel which was taking in water in the Dover Strait. The Antigua Barbuda registered cargo vessel EMS MAJESTIC reported that they had seven crew on board and were taking on water and sinking 13 miles south east of Eastbourne. A number of vessels transiting the area responded to Mayday Relay broadcast to provide assistance as required. Coastguard rescue helicopters based at both Lee on Solent and Lydd have been sent to the scene along with Eastbourne RNLI lifeboat. EMS MAJESTIC received assistance from the tug, THOR FRIGG and is currently under tow to Southampton. For safety reasons, two non essential crew members have been airlifted from the vessel by Coastguard helicopter and will be repatriated to their vessel in due course.
